a good tracking snow...perfect. brbrrbrrrboooooooooo!
What's that white stuff? ;-)
And :dunno:
Get er done, bro...
White and red go together like Oreos and milk.
This story started about 2 months ago, at my Bro's farm. We were moving a few stands and found a spot in some planted trees for a stand to be hunted a couple times when the rut starts and another spot that needed a stand. We got the rut stand up that day and John ended up putting the second stand up by himself later....
So we had our pre hunt discussion , were gonna hunt both ,but the wind forecast went from nw to wnw so the guy in the thick would have been in the other stands windstream.
:campfire: :coffee:
So then John says he is working on jerky and deer bologna or something and for me to take my pick. What a bro I have!
So I take the one in the more open area so I can see what the bucks are up to at a distance.
Wind was good for one way and not sure if they got south of me, first sit ever on this one so no data on it.
Walked the .4 mile in with no light, snow made it pretty light even without the moon . Flipped my light on dim and found the tree with some good directions from bro. Buckled in 20 minutes before shooting light.
After near an hour in there with no activity I was thinkin it was gonna smell like skunked...
Then a single doe, followed by 18 others and a couple fawns(need to get rid of some coyotes looks like) and a buck...

The buck came out following a couple does , the does filtered past behind me but the buck went out in the front of me. I looked him over and decided due to my workload in the upcoming weeks, I'd better take him.
So he comes around in front of me, in that pic the buck is heading to a 90 degree corner in field road, It takes him about the same distance in front. That's looking left in the pic...
He makes it almost in front, but far enough out that some branches are gonna screen him , good thing I didn't stand up.
He clears the branches and stops, and the arrow is gone. It hits a bit high and forward and not enough penetration to suit me. No wonder cause I had to scooch my butt around as far as I could to be able to shoot in front, that's why I like to be standing. So must have short drawn some and tagged the shoulder blade too. Half an arrow out, dammit!! He runs back north in the trees as I listen, then quiet, then I hear him sucking wind and am pretty sure he is down.
Other deer show up over where I think he is , some walk off , some run off but all go to the same spot.
I wait a full 30 minutes and drink my coffee, no cigar to puff on...
So with a short scanty blood trail I walk up to my Halloween buck, only 5 hunts this year due to weather and work.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191031/f32b14750719d00072c0d763f4e3f919.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191031/5350e76b0c3b29bf5b25aaa8a801c734.jpg)

Buck weighed 181 field dressed and had huge globs of fat in him . A bud wanted the heart and it was so encased innfat I had to skin it off !!
CONGRATS KENNY!!!!
Congrats! Great buck!
Kenny, just now had time to read your story. Great story and hunt. I'm sure John was as happy as you. Deer was a big one!
Yep he brought his utv and hauled us out. I gutted this one since he put the stand up by himself and let me have first hunt on it. He saw a 9 point from same stand today.
To explain the gutting thing, we field dress each other's bucks , just something we've done for a long time, don't remember how it got started ! LOL
Good job Kenny....nice buck!
Congrats Kenny he looks better on the ground than in the first pic. Love your stick!
Well done Kenny! Congratulations on one fine buck!
