Title: Help title this bow design...
Post by: Shredd on September 15, 2019, 10:28:23 AM
Ok guys...  I need help defining what this bow is...   I am thinking it is a hybrid but my friend says that it is a recurve...  A friend on another forum is calling it a Semi recurve...

It has narrow limbs, 1 3/8" at the fades and close to 1/2" at the tips...  The string only touches the limbs for about 2"...  The string wraps up on the limb only for about a 1/4" or less...  The string leaves the limb at 5" of draw...

So what would you call this type of bow??

I am pretty stoked about it's performance...  It has great string tension...  The best DFC numbers that I have seen on one of my bows yet...  She is rough sanded with tape on the limbs and weighing in at 46# and I am getting 189 fps with a 465gr. arrow... Chances are that it may increase in speed when I finish sanding it and remove the tape...

It's definately a recurve(string on limb at brace. Also looks like it's slightly working recurve with a deflex out of the handle. Maybe that would make it a hybrid, takedown recurve.

See.... I'd call it a semi-recurve.  Because when you string and draw, the curved tips basically go away.  To me a full recurve still has some serious curve at the tips when strung and pulled to full draw.

Call it twister...

It's all messed up.

You had to make the right side limb pad angle wrong...

I think maybe the riser ain't straight on the block.

But Roy would know better cause he has built so many out of whack bows.  :)

Kinda reminds me of the old Grumley bows like the Deerslayer but those were static tip recurves. What is the antonym of "static"? Reactive or just maybe active? Maybe "minimally recurved" bow or "Active Limb-tip Longbow". Like was said... technically it is a recurve since the string touches the limb at brace height but you can call it what ever you wanna.

It is a great looking bow!

Re-active Tip Hybrid...

I've looked at the pics several times now. I was torn between recurve and hybrid. So I'm gonna go with deep or thick cored recurve. Reason being that at brace, the tips are still pointing ever so slightly away from the shooter. If the tips were straight and limbs had minimal contact with string, I'd say hybrid.

Latest update on this Hybrid bow...  I made some new limbs and shortened them about 1 1/2"... Bow needing 60" string...  The string barely touches the limbs at 7 1/4" brace...  They came in at 42.5#... The string tension and DFC numbers went down... Still great performance...  Only lost about 1fps...  I am gonna make limbs that need a 61" string and start tweaking limb stiffness near the tips and fade lengths until I squeeze max performance out of this limb design...

You two Guys....      I think I am gonna name it the "3pc. Hybrid Combo Pokester"... " Hybrid Combo" because at 7 1/4" brace it is a Hybrid Longbow and at 7" brace it is a Hybrid Recurve...
