I just finished reading Asbell's Instinctuve Shooting and, while I love all of the good info about shooting form and such, what I'm really hungry for is more bowhunting stories of the 70s-80s era traditional guys. This was my dad's generation, and reading them takes me back to all of the great tales I used to hear about "the good ol' days" from him.
Anyone have suggested reading? Online archives, books, whatever...not picky on format, just content!
Bows on the Little Delta was a good read. And anything authored by Fred Bear.
Don Thomas tells a good tale, has several books !!
Yes...bows on the little delta..
.what a read!!!
Just asking..I know sometime guys overlook the stories on our own forums here...Articles/Stories and the classics forums...There are some great ones in there.
Thanks for the suggestions!
4dogs, I did discover that section and have enjoyed reading the stories there, along with all of the highlights. Just looking specifically for stuff from that time period to geek out on right now. Thanks for mentioning it!

You'll find that most of the stories in my book, "A Bowhunter's Tales" meet your criteria.
What about some of the old sporting magazines? Outdoor Life, Sports Afield, Field and Stream along with others sometimes had archery stories from back in the pre-compound days. I don't know how such materials could be located, but there might be some good stories.
Yes...Charlie's book!!!!
Although written as of late...the stories revert back.....great stuff!
Fred Anderson has a really good book. Can't remember the title but I borrowed it from a friend and read the entire thing on opening day of gun season. (It was a slow day).
From the Den of the Old Bowhunter by Chet Stevenson is also really good.
Can't go wrong with any of Fred Bears writing, and like others have mentioned, Bows on the Little Delta is great.
I have probably read Fred Bear's Field notes a dozen times. I never tire of reading it.
Fred Andersons Toxaholic I believe is the name real good read. Don Thomas books hard to beat and I am going to get Charlies book cause nasty weather is coming lol I like to read when to nasty to hunt
I second Charlie Lambs book and I have read the others mentioned above as well.
Bowhunting: A Passion for Life by Monty Browning is also a good read.
Thanks, everyone, for sharing. I've ordered Bear's Field Notes and Charlie's book. The others have been added to my "To Read" list!
Like wapitishooter said, it's gonna be good reading weather in just a few months!
Lately I have been getting back issues of Traditional Bowhunter magazine a lot of great stories I think you can get them digitally for there website.
