2020 Colorado Elk/Mule Deer

A group of PBS members are planning to hunt the Flat Tops Wilderness area of Northwest Colorado for elk and mule deer during the second week of the 2020 archery hunting season.  We will be staying at the Wild Skies lodge located in GMU 12.  This GMU requires several preference points to draw a license.  GMU 231 is very close to the lodge and you can buy over the counter licenses to hunt this unit.  We have two openings for this hunt.  PBS members only please.  If you are not a current member you can sign up as an Associate member and be elgible to participate.  These GMU's have a lot of elk.  Several of the members attending have considerable experience hunting elk and will be glad to help out any elk newbies.  The cost is approximately $2,400 per person for the week – for cabin use.    For additional information, please contact:

Sounds like a great opportunity, especially for a pair of newbie elk hunters.....

Is the $2400 for lodging only? I thought they had private land to hunt. Also note, all mule deer tags are draw only.

The $2400 is for use of the lodge only.  This is a self-guided hunt.  You do your own packing if you shoot something although I am sure other hunters will help.  They do have some private land connected to the lodge that you can hunt IF you have a tag valid for GMU 12.  Management unit 231 has over the counter elk tags for those who don't have a tag for unit 12.  Don't know about mule deer tags as I am only planning to hunt elk and have enough preference points to easily draw unit 12.

The otc either sex elk tag is valid on private land in unit 12 so even if you find a couple people to join you in your stay and they didnt have the necessary 2 points to draw a unit 12 tag they could still hunt the 70 some acres of ground privately owned around the cabin. Just trying to help. We saw mule deer by the road on that property about every time we drove by but they were does or small bucks not saying there weren't big bucks somewhere on the property. Good luck on finding some people and good luck on your hunt. It's hard to beat the flat tops
