Title: arrow cresting
Post by: stack on August 08, 2019, 12:00:22 PM
What paint do you use to crest your arrow when using gasket lacquer as your sealer? I tried using Testors paint but it pulls when I pull the arrow thru the gasket.

Thanks Stack

You can't use a lacquer based paint over an enamel.    I always crest with testors paints but I seal them with some form of water based poly.

After I crest, I let it dry overnight, then use water based spray poly over crest, let dry 1/2 day or overnight, then dip in tube. Will only run if you miss a spot. I use true north paints, used to use whisper winds paints, they are water based.  Too many Testor paints to choose from and never had any luck guessing, the ones I bought reacted poorly with what I do.

When I used GL as a top coat I used Bohning Fletch Laq cresting paints. I also used paints for model RC cars. It was Laq based as well. Don't know if later is still available?

I forgot, 3Rivers sells GL products. Check their website.

I generally just let it dry overnight and then use some water based poly in a spray can

I dip in water based poly also.

I do mine the same way as RRAMING. The spray poly keeps your cresting from running when you dip them.
