Title: Trimming a tab
Post by: Chain2 on July 22, 2019, 09:31:38 AM
I've been shooting a tab for awhile. I like it but I'm wondering what everyone else is doing for fit. At my anchor the tab is touching my face. Do you trim the tab to allow the end if your finger to make contact with your face? I know once you cut it you can't put it back. I think I'd have a more consistent anchor if it was finger to face rather than leather to face. Thanks Guys.

Trim it so it's just a little longer than your fingertips then adjust from there.

This is a photo of my tab with my fingers extended:

This is with my fingers curled:

With my fingers curled, I can touch my anchor point with my fingers, not my tab.

I trim so when I grab the string my tab is just a hair beyond my finger and tips. One time I trimmed one a little short and every time I shot if I didn't watch how I gripped the string I would get finger burn from the string on the tips of my fingers.

Mine's a bit shorter but contains the string upon draw.

The tab may be much longer if you shoot from your finger tips.

My only recommendation would be to take your time trimming. You can always take a little more off, but like you said, you can't put it back. Plan on trimming multiple times, shooting it each time you take a little off, instead of trying to get it all trimmed at once. That way when it feels "right" you'll know that you're finished.

The photos look good to me. Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but there is more potential for problems with too long tabs. I have pointed out to a couple of friends that the red and sometimes bloody spot on their nose/lips did not come from the bow string but rather too long a tab.

Thanks Guys. I'm going to start cutting this weekend.
