A bowier I know is wanting to make a short forward handle RD longbow 52".
He knows that I like short bows so I'm getting the first one.
He just finished the form and I had a special riser block made and sent to him.
This is the riser block. Black Buckeye Burl with red resin.

That's all four sides.
WHOA! That is gonna look wild!
This is a knife I'm making to match the bow.
Its rough shaped and I still have to fine sand it and polish.

That's really neat! I love the red!
Very cool!!! Can't wait to see the finished product.
Thanks, I'm getting anxious too but I haven't heard from the bowier for a few weeks. :dunno:
An update, the bowyer has had too many things on his plate and this build has been on hold.
I will post updates as they come in.
He assures me it's going to happen. I told him not to worry about it, but I hope to get it before October.
He hopes it's not going to be that long. :archer:

He is getting back at it.
Just got this picture of the idea of how it will look.

I've desided to go with charcoal stained burtch over the actionboo.
That will be a pretty cool looking bow Dale!

The bow lams with the riser.
[attachment=1]
Oh boy, he just showed me the other side of the lams.
Says only the wood grain would show on the finished bow.
Decisions decisions. 🤔

Pictures with the riser wood wet.

I think I like the gray better.

That's not funny. :nono:

Buy the way, notice the serial number. #SFD001 :archer:
I think that's perdy kool!
And might add, this is my new hunting partner, Ruby. :archer:
So how's it shoot? :archer2:
:clapper:
It's not here yet, it's on the mail.

Finally got a chance to get her setup.
With a FF string it shot very harsh and I was having trouble fine tuning it.
So I twisted up a B55 and after shooting the string in, I dialed the brace height in and 7" on the dot is best.
It's shooting these 70-75# Douglas Fur arrows like a lazer beam.
Thanks for coming along with me and my new go to hunting companion.
That looks great! Thanks for sharing the pics and good luck hunting with it. :archer2:

How would this bow look with snake skins?
[attachment=1]
Finally got it all dialed in for the opener on October 1st.
Nice group. Good luck in October! :archer2:
Yup, good luck! Post a picture of it's first harvest.

Got it broke in.
Congrats!!!!
Well done Dale. Congratulations!!!
Just found out that this kill is the very first one for the bowyer that made it.
I knew it was the first kill for the short model, but I was very surprised it was the very first.
He told me he is building his website and asked if he could use the picture to start his Gallery.
Buy the way, he still hasn't named this short model. :biglaugh:
Thought I would share this with all of you on Pow Wow.
Thanks Terry for moving it here for me. Pine
Awesome!
:campfire:
a great story with a very happy ending ... congrats all around! :clapper:
Just my "late" opinion but do not put snake skins on that bow. Its too eye popping to cover with a distracting snake skin.
What a gorgeous looking bow... shoots well also it seems.
JMHO
Holy Smokes! That is a great looking bow!

Let's put this to the top for the new members to see. :archer:
