Title: Stump Shooting Coarse
Post by: Charger83 on April 01, 2019, 08:57:23 AM
Does anyone have thing hidden out in woods.Like golf ball, spray paint spots or bright eye.And just stand at random spots. Is it not a good idea to do that.

Stump shooting is a great/fun way to train your eye for hunting. Always a different size object and different distance it keeps you on your toes.

It's also fun if you have someone with you. You can take turns picking out he next target.

Nope on anything hidden out there.

I just look for natural targets in the woods/fields.

My son and I have a few favorite stumps that we both really love. One of them is very small and covered with moss and when we walk through the woods we usually approach it from a very difficult angle. Whoever gets it gets the bragging rights for the day LOL

I have some small foam animal targets we set out in the camp yard, but nothing hidden in the woods.

No, I just shoot at whatever catches my eye. A lot of the stumps are hidden under the snow right now though if that counts as something hidden in the woods.

Putting"garbage" in the woods is too much work. Besides I like to keep targets random and fresh.

At my old property, an animal was stealing stuffed dog toys from the neighbor's dogs and depositing them in my woods. They made good targets.

I add quite a few new targets to my "course" every year----we have a multitude of dead ash trees and I am pretty generous with the stumps I leave as I cut each year's firewood.  I never come at the same stump from the same angle or distance---always random encounters trying to keep it real.

I'm lucky enough to have access to a couple hundred acres to hunt and stump shoot behind my house. It seems like every time I go stumping I find new targets. I usually go with the neighbor and we take turns calling the shot. There is an old empty milk jug that always makes for a fun 40 or so yard shot.

Green with envy of the stomping possibilities you folks have.  It's 45-60 minutes just to get out of town for me.

You might put a marker on that stump that looks all punked out with moss growing on it.
You know, the one that is harder than woodpecker lips and your arrow blows up on contact.
Not that that has ever happened to me before.  :banghead:

I use the brightly colored tennis balls thrown randomly. ... with blunts. When you hit it square, it's the same as throwing it again!

I just rove and shoot stuff. Even better then 3D to me. No course, no signs, just get into the wood walk around and pick a stump, a log, a leaf, a anything and let it fly. New targets every time you head out. Great fun!

I just shoot at random objects out in the woods.  Stumps, leaves, sticks, whatever. Had a complete pass through on this stump so be careful lol!

Either by myself or with others, I use a Nerf soccer ball. I have busted too many arrows on "soft targets of opportunity" that turned out to not be so soft. The Nerf ball makes a good sized target (or target of good size I suppose). Whoever hits it or is closest gets to kick the ball for the next shot. They can choose to kick it far or close, or even into a brush pile.

Also, after loosing many, many arrows in the grass I put a Tiger Claw behind all my Hex Heads now. I have yet to loose and arrow with one on.

Roaming around in the woods shooting arrows is just good fun!

Our gang hasn't shot stumps for awhile now.  When we did, we would just roam through the woods taking turns picking shots.  I guess we have gotten lazy.
