Specifically, how many arrows so you like to carry for big game, especially if you use a bow quiver? I have a great northern strap on quiver that holds 5 arrows and don't have any real complaints, but have been considering dropping down to a lighter three arrow quiver or even something like a two arrow EFA mesa with a piggybacker for my judo. I don't live in an area where I'm going to be shooting multiple big game animals in a day so if i cant get it done with 2-3 broadheads I should probably just go home! So are you a minimalist or ready for another battle at Agincourt?
I have the great northern 5 arrow quiver as well.. and I feel the same way you do.. I don't have any complaints at the moment but I could also be ok with a 3 arrow quiver I think

I almost always use a backquiver and I load it up. I may only have 5 or so broadhead arrows in it, but almost always have 10 arrows total. When i leave the house to hunt, I just go to hunt. Might start out as a deer hunt, and depending on action/luck/patience, it may end up a squirrel, rabbit, frog, bird, stump hunt.
I ran out of arrows while hunting once with a bow quiver. :banghead:
I ran out ONCE.
Won't happen again! :biglaugh:
At least 5. I like small game, so I always carry a small game head or a blunt. Depending on when I'm out hunting, I also may feel like shooting a stump before gets out of a tree or on my way out.
I carry 5 on my bow and a bunch of stump shooting and small game arrows in a side quiver I am always shooting at something.
Three broad heads. :archer:
Five arrows for me, usually three broadheads and two blunts. Sometimes four and one.
I don't have anything set in stone..... It all depends on where I'm going and what I'm Hunting.
Minimum of 4 Broadheads and a judo... Max 6 broadheads.
When hunting in Texas for hogs and javi I carry 6 broadheads in my bow quiver..... And another 6 and I back quiver. Once I see the big game I can drop the back quiver.
I mostly use a Great Northern oe EFA and I take 3 arrows with big broadheads.
I usually hunt for a certain animal so or that or nothing.
In my GN I usually use 3 as the big snuffers take up so much room in the small hood. Yes I can twist them just right and make them fit but hate banging and grinding the blades together.
4 usually, 3 BH and a judo.
Only once have i used all 3 arrows , at the same buck mind you and no I never hit him.
My quiver is full when I hunt. 4 or 6 arrows depending. That said if I'm deer hunting a couple will be set up for pigs and one for small game in Texas. In Missouri 4 for deer and two for small game.

4 broadheads and a judo. On an afternoon hunt I usually shoot a couple judos walking in and on morning hunt I shoot a couple judos on the way out.

I am in his crew even though I have not hunted yet.
I did not have time earlier.... And not much now....
I carry more arrows hog Hunting.... For a reason.... Which has played out more than once..... Acquiring multiple kills.... M follow UPS to other people's Kills.
I don't go to battle with minimal Ammunition.
When hunting big game, I usually carry 3 broadheads, a blunt, and a judo.
For where and for what I hunt now, that has proven to be enough for the day... unless I happen upon a flock of grouse on the way back to camp, lol!
I use the 3 arrow Selway with 2 broadheads and 1 blunt (hexhead) but I also have wrap protected additional 2 blade head in my pack which can replace the blunt (carbon arrows) if needed. Never needed to do it and can only remember 2x in my life having opportunity for 2 shots at big game.
In my 64 years of hunting big game with a bow, 5 arrows is the perfect number IMO. I like to carry a judo or blunt for stump shooting or small game and if you can't kill something with 4 broadheads you'd better go home and practice.
This is my new Shrew Scout side quiver for those who like a quiver free bow.

three to five broadheads with one broad head on the bow in a stalker the rest in a side quiver. Some stumpers and small gamers in the side quiver if the time and place is right.
Deer/elk: 3 Broadheads and a blunt on the bow. Back quiver in the truck.
Pigs/bear: 4 Broadheads on bow and back quiver with me for extras for reloads or other game animals
With fall turkey season combined with deer season i carry 8. Find that the Herters 4 blade with it rounded back corners, pull out of a back quiver very easily, 3 of those are my turkey arrows, 3 are single bevel deer arrows, 1 is a blunt and 1 is a judo. Kind of silly, because a sharp Herters 4 blade is also a super effective deer killer.
I usually start out with six when I make up a new bunch of broadheads, but if I score or lose any, I feel okay with four. Sometimes, I'll carry a judo pointed arrow, but this is rare. Essentially, I hunt only deer. Almost never does a different type of hunt develop unless a coyote or bobcat comes along.
I think 3 broad heads plus a judo work pretty well.
In the bowquiver I have now there are 5 broadheads and 2 judos.
Quiver carries four usually all broadheads. :coffee:  :campfire:
I have a 5 arrow GN bow quiver and 99% of the time I carry 3 broadheads and one judo.
For all of my hunting up to this point, 3 broadheads, a blunt and a judo. I have never needed the extra broadheads but I like having them. I am looking at some hog hunting opportunities and I believe I will have another couple of broadheads with me for that.
4 BH and one judo.
I had carried a 3 arrow quiver for a few years until while hunting out of a climbing tree-stand I had spine shot a doe. It had dragged itself into nearby brush crying. I tried to put another arrow in her but was deflected by the branches. I had to climb down and find one of the previous shot arrows to put her out of her misery. I felt bad for days. I now have a 4 arrow bow quiver with 3 broadheads, one blunt and a backup broadhead in the quiver. P.S. my brother had shot 6 arrows (emptying quiver) at 2 deer walking by. :biglaugh:
For hogs in a Great Northern, all five are broad heads. Headed to Granger in the morning for a couple days of kayaking, hammock hanging and hog pestering.
:coffee: :archer2:  :campfire:
5 arrows with all broadheads. Our place is so rocky in most areas that if you miss on small game with a judo, you destroy the judo.
I use a 4 arrow bow quiver loaded with 3 broadheads and 1 judo point. Use the judo for stumping and grouse.
:archer2:
I use a 4-arrow Selway quiver as well with three broadheads and one judo for stumps and grouse. I carry an extra broadhead in my pack should I ever need to convert the judo to a broadhead. Haven't had to yet, but nice to have in reserve.
4...3 broadheads and a blunt usually in an EFA quiver.
I generally use a Thunderhorn strap on six arrow that I can quietly take on and off in the blind or stand. During deer season I carry three, three-blade heads for the deer; two, two-blades for feral hogs and one screw-in hex head with a tiger claw behind it for small game. During Turkey season its five BIG two blade heads and the hex/tiger claw arrow for stump shooting (no small game in season during Turkey season).
I have been looking at the Kwikee Kwiver Air quivers. I would probably go with the round four or six to keep things light weight. I prefer quivers I can take off/put on quietly. I have several of the EFAs but ... that Velcro is just TOO noisy!
OkKeith
I use a catquiver with 4 broadheads and 1 blunt. Yes, I have come out of the woods with all b/h's dulled and no meat for the freezer-hard to admit but true. Have hunted from the ground the past few years with a gillie and the encounters have made up for the poor shooting-last two deer were taken at four and twelve yards-what a rush.
3 Zwickey " No Mercy heads ", and 1 Judo point.
I never see no need to carry more than 4 arrows, tipped with 4 Zwickey Deltas. If I can't get it done within four arrows, my fifth arrow is usually shot on the practice range. Unless I'm hunting rabbits, small game, or stump shooting then I carry whatever I can fit in my back quiver.
5 arrows! 4 Broadheads 1 Small game head.
A catquiver with 3 arrows for most everything. Elk hunting I boost it up to 5.
I carry 1 blunt for small game/stumps/practice, 3 Bear Razorheads and 1 Smith's diamond sharpener in my pack . Don't plan on using the sharpener, but even an old Boy Scout needs to 'Be Prepared'. I ain't running out of ammo.
I also practice with the last spot in my Thunderhorn strap on quiver empty, because, when hunting, that arrow will be out of my quiver, loaded on my longbow and waiting for the poor buck that mistakenly walks too close to my lair.
:archer:
3 sharp and 2 blunt for target. However, one magical evening about 25 years ago I ran out.
I've run out shooting pigs and that was with a 5 arrow quiver. Sometimes you just can't carry enough.

I carry 6 in my GFA. Usually 4 broadheads and 2 blunts.
If I am hunting further away from camp (my trip to Wyoming comes to mind) I will carry 6 broadheads, and throw a blunt or Judo in my pocket in case I want to practice a bit.
In Alaska I carry 4 broadheads and one grouse arrow.
Mike
How many when you hunted elk in Idaho Mike? :goldtooth:
Five is the perfect number

I've never found a quiver I really liked, from bow quivers to side carry, to back quivers to CatQuivers. Not one really does the job if I'm hunting grouse with a Snaro point. Bow quivers for me come closest though. I'll be getting a new one for that new bow from Creek Walker Traders for my birthday, and will go with a 4 shaft model. I can put piggybackers and a snaro-point equipped flu flu on the side for grouse. Our deer and grouse season are at the same time here. If I'm on a backpack hunt though, I'll carry more shafts in a container on the pack, just in case I need more.
Charlie,
It depended on if we were spike camping or going out of basecamp. I carried 5 BH and one grouse at times but if we were running into a lot of grouse it could be 3 BH and 3 grouse. I've never run out of broadhead arrows on a day hunt. But jason did one morning chasing a couple of bulls around. But that's a different story. LOL
Mike
Five broad heads and a field point or blunt. I've missed a doe three times, so I know I could need at least four.
Three sharp and one field point. I have been known to carry a spare, sharp broached or two as well.
I use a bow quiver. I generally carry 3 broadheads and sometimes one blunt.
One arrow, one shot, one kill....... Just kidding, 3 or 4 arrows with Muzzy Phantoms and 1 judo pointed arrow. :archer2:

That's the Spirit finkm1 . . . 1A1K :goldtooth:
3 is all I've got room for in my quiver so that's all I take.
Usually I have 4. Never seem to use them... While hunting anyway. I am the self proclaimed worst hunter ever.
I am quite good however at messing up opportunities. :knothead:
I carry 5 broad heads and a blunt.
