Title: 3 Rivers Spine Calculator
Post by: dresnor on March 12, 2019, 06:59:23 PM
Does anyone have experience with the 3 Rivers Archery spine calculator? I am looking to up my arrow weight and FOC. According to the calculator with my bow information the new arrows should fly better than the arrows I have that I think fly good.

Has anyone used this calculator and proven the arrows out in real life? I like messing with the numbers to get the best numbers but I am unsure how honest this actually is.

It's better than most for sure. I have to add +8 on my form and it pretty much nails it for me. Nothing can take into consideration of all the variables. I see it as a starting point.

It works well for me.  I do get my arrows full length and trim as I work on the tuning.

I've never had good experience with it. The arrows it recommends are normally way out of tune for my bow, and the arrows that fly good don't match well at all in the calculator. Maybe I'm the odd guy out though.

You'll waste a lot of money (experience) by solely basing off it. However, if you figure out a good arrow that tunes to your bow and then plug that data in, you can use it much more effectively. I have to put in -13 on the personal form section.

I use the calculator to get into the "ballpark". It's very rare for me to hit it "deadon". I have gotten some weird solutions but that's from me wanting to use shafts that I know are way out of spine, ie; 2219 from 55# bow.
I don't do high FOC or arrows over 10 gpp so it isn't hard for me to use calculator.

I have had good luck using it but i dont just plug in numbers and go. I put my information in for the bow and then plug in the info for an arrow i know shoots great out of it. Then i adjust my personal form to make it match exactly. Then i can work on my new arrow specs to make them match my old specs.

I use Stu's cal.only because he list the bows I own ( 3 Rivers doesn't , Dale Dyes , Blacktail, Bracken........) just remember it gets you  close , but you still have to put the right #s in and depends on your form & setup .

That said it always recommends a stiffer arrow(1/4-1/2 inch) than what tunes best for me>>>--> then I bare shaft tune[attachment=1,msg2857340]
