Bocote. I've ordered bows with bocote before, but the veneers weren't as nice as these.
Congrats on a beautiful bow! These short d/r longbows are the best hunting bows ever,IMO. Head first down the rabbit hole.

As most of you guys know, Gregg has a great sense of humor and just before he mailed the bow we were both joking around he said, "just unpack the bow and take it hunting".
Well the bow arrived Friday, but I wasn't able to work on it till Saturday.
Early to rise, I started the day by stringing the bow with a new string that I built earlier during the week. (My friend wanted me to test some Majesty 777 in the terrain that I hunt.) Then I picked an arrow and began to shoot a few shots. In all honesty, most new bows that I shoot take some time to get dialed in. Wasn't so for this Elkheart. Immediately it was finding the center of my target. I told myself that if it tunes and I can group it out to 20, I'm taking it hunting tomorrow.
Bareshafting and paper tuning went well, so all that was left was grouping. By the end of the day I was confident out to 20, so the Elkheart was going hunting...

Thank you! Stay tuned as it was a lucky Sunday afternoon! :shaka:
Bow season started in February, but yesterday was our first hunting trip. Of course we had to start off by checking out our favorite ridge. After about two hours of hiking, we started to glass. We first spotted a few feeding on our second favorite area to hunt. I was hoping that we didn't make a bad decision.

We decided to trek on and after thirty minutes, we began to hear some goats to the left of us. I dropped my pack and scurried up the ridge in hopes of finding an intersect point. Fortunately I beat them there and was able to set up. Two nannies were heading right to me. They kept coming on the animal trail right below me. Arrow nocked and bow arm set, I was waiting as patient as possible. At ten yards I drew and at about seven I released the string.
That is truly a pretty bow!
I hit the goat quartering forward and it took off down the hill crashing in the brush at the bottom of the hill. Although I didn't need to blood trail it, I did follow it.

My first goat for the 2019 bow season.

We deboned the animal and let the meat cool before heading back to the truck.

Fantastic, Bocote and blood is a beautiful marriage :jumper:Congrats
Congrats on the nice bow and the nice goat! The dark black goat pelt looks good matching the deep black color in your bow. A fitting first kill! Hope there's many more great adventures for you and your Elkheart!! :archer:
Congrats on the first harvest with the beautiful new bow!!

Hmmm. I read another post about an Elkheart or two that took game the first time out. I ordered one (used) and didn't get a deer with it until the 4th or 5th time out. Must be defective.
What a beauty Ryan! Goat and bow! Congrats on a fine animal and great start to the season!

Ryan,
What arrows are those? With weight range printed on them? Victory?
Nice bow!
I met some Hawaiian bow hunters when I was in Wyoming last year. I should have asked if they see your videos.

Tedd,
.500 spine Victory VForce 35-50.
If they were from Oahu I might've know them.
Aloha!
Ryan
Ryan,
I don't recall where they were from. Last name was Grace. Man and wife and an uncle were there. They hunt all over the place including New Zealand I think they were in plumbing biz? Nice folks, hunt w trad equipment when they are at home.
Victory makes nice shafts, I have some of their Grizzlystiks.
My wife always wants to go to Hawaii, I guess I'll have to take her someday.
Tedd
That is a great looking stick!!!

I have one on order. Hope mine is as nice as yours.
except for the shelf being on the wrong side, I find Greg's grips to be the most comfortable I've ever tried. He's also a true artist at bringing out the best combinations of woods. I gave him my preference of woods and asked him to also make it self camouflaging. He nailed it.
Nice....... :shaka: now go get another......
