Title: Who shoots a Centaur carbon elite
Post by: valleysniper on March 06, 2019, 03:10:20 AM
Does anyone shoot one of these ? I'm thinking about ordering one. What can you tell me about it? How does it compare to an A&H ?....Gary

I have a Triple Carbon, it shoots as fast as my recurves of the same weight, quiet and very stable and accurate. I think it is one of the really best longbow you can find.
Some friends of my group shoot both,Centaur and A&H,they are pretty similar in performances, but the grip of the Centaur is more consistent. They had some serious problems with the durability of the A&H carbon limbs and customer service.

I shoot one.  I love it, but I've never shot A&H.

I have owned both. The Centaur is a great performer. They have a grip that just feels great and a draw cycle that i prefer. Absolutely no thump at the shot and you need bright feathers to see your arrow. Jim Neaves will talk to you all day it seems, he loves what he does and really believes in his products.  My A&H was nice, it was my first $1,200 bow. The limbs delaminated. new limbs $ 700.  I talked to John Harvard on the phone he was really nice. At ETAR this year the guys working the both did not even acknowledge me and my buddy. Im sorry you didn't ask for all this. Both bows are good shooters, i still would like to try an A&H one piece some day.

I have owned three Centaurs, a glass model, a Chimera and now a Carbon Elite with the XTL lamination and Dark Matter in the riser. The Carbon Elite is hands down the best longbow I have ever owned. It is fast, quiet, dead in the hand and the workmanship is flawless. The grip fits like a glove, did I say it is fast and quiet? Jim is a pleasure to talk to and work with. I have never shot the A&H, so I can't personally speak to those, but I will say this particular Centaur is in my possession to stay.

It's without a doubt the quickest longbow I own and keeps up with my recurves. Unfortunately I just shoot a 3pc T/D Recurve better.

I have owned 2.  Shouldve never sold them!

Great bows!

Own/owned both.  Very similar in draw/shot "feeling" to me.  Both fast, quiet and a pleasure to shoot/carry.  Both well made and I've never had issues with either.  Grip is such a subjective thing so take this for what it's worth, but the centaur gets the nod in that department.

Gary if you own an A&H and like it, I can't see you not enjoying a centaur.  Remember, there is always room for one more bow.

The only problem I have with Centaur is the build time is so long. I really like my A @H 3 piece. If Jim could get me one out in about 3 or 4 months I would order one I just don't have the patience to wait over a year.

I've had both.  Currently have an A&H for sale but only because I want a bit shorter bow.  I'd have to say they are very comparable as to performance, but I too am very put off by the long wait for the centaur and likely will never have a new one because of that.

That is a big consideration. Has anybody else had problems with the coating on the A&H limbs ?

I've had two A&H's and found the limb finish quite durable.  Never heard there was a problem.

I have had two centaurs and several A&H. I would get another Centaur especially since Jim is making a 64 inch bow. I would like to try one. Only problem is the waiting list.

Owned 2 Centaurs : triple Carbon and a chimera and 2 ACS , 1 -3 pcs and a  2 piece. Performance wise both were awesome. I have had a friend have some finish problems with his ACS limbs but they dealt with it and he still has the bow. Only reason I got rid of mine was because I had to go down in weight. I love the Carbon sleeve takedown system, simple with no tools or bolts required, but not fond of the straighter acs grip on the 1 and2 pieces. I love the Centaur grip and his finishing is some of the best I've ever seen. If Centaur produced a Triple Carbon using the Carbon Sleeve take down system I'd call tomorrow and get on his list.

Folks interested in Centaurs but not the wait. Call Jim and see if he has any stock bows or is currently building any at your spec. I got him to put a dark stain on that bright dymond wood he uses for stock risers. Looks awesome. I know of 3 bows acquired this way .

Recurve?  I don't find that on his site.  Any more information?

Gary, if you pick up a centaur, I would love to put a couple arrows through it.

As far as guys not liking the wait, how can you sit in the woods all day?  Honestly if it were me and I didn't have a bow to shoot.... I'd buy a used or stock bow close to my specs, then have the new bow built.  By the time your name comes up, you will know exactly what you want. It's better than rushing through a build and changing your mind after its too late.

When you get your new custom bow, you can sell off the old used one.

Nobody likes the wait.  I'm fixin ta drop a deposit on a bow that has a year plus wait.  I can't afford it now but by the time it's ready I'll have the cash so may as well get on the list.

Charlie, you know I would never be without a bow. I just thought I would buy a bow with high performance because of my draw weight limitations.  And maybe we can get together for a shoot up by you. This summer

I will try to post here again.....

I own and shoot a Centaur "triple carbon elite" -- I also own and shoot a Centaur Chimera.

How do the Centaurs shoot? Smooth and fast. A very easy bow to fall in love with. They are also quiet with no hand shock once the brace height gets adjusted. Jim Neaves, the maker, made the grip a little on the thin side for me and that helps the bow feel comfortable in my hand.

How do they compare to an A&H ACS-CX 3-piece? Very well. I have owned several A&H ACS-CX TD bows and I didn't consistently shoot any of them particularly well. I suspect the issue was not being able to get comfortable with the grip -- the A&H grip is a bit too big for my hand. Now that A&H has the thinner 3-D riser available I may give those bows a try again. But, they were very fast shooters, just a little too twitchy due to me not being able to adapt to the grip.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Centaur.

Centaur has been one of my dream bows, but unfortunately limited resources limit my wants.   :coffee:  :archer2: :campfire:
