Yep it is almost turkey season what is your set up? My set up is Yellowstone Halfbreed 62" 46@27.5 60/65 Surewood shafts with a Grizzly Broadhead two decoys a popup blind and Primos pot calls.
I use an Ameristep 1/2 blind so I don't have contend with a roof. Then I use one of my dad's box calls and a diaphram call. I use the same archery tackle as I would for deer.
Rancho safari long coat modified exactly like David Waldrop suggests. Of course Waldrop pac seat and this year 58" Toelke Chinook Wensel 3 blades and i like Chads string tracker
Ameristep pop up. Primaltech 58" longbow 51@28 drawing 27". Eason axis .500's with a 75gr insert and 175gr point. 5 inch feathers. Various mouth calls and pot calls.
Bodnik Slick Stick #52@ my 30"' draw. GT Hunter XT 340 full length 100gr brass insert 165gr Zwickey No Mercy Broadhead. Various box calls, slates, and push pulls. Got 3 hens one jake and a full strut tom I'll use in varying combinations.
Good luck!!
This years set-up will be a Black Widow PCHX 60"(due in within the next 2 weeks) Snuffer 160 glue-on on an aluminum adapter. Arrows.... have to see what tunes but leaning towards Victory Xtorsion 300's. Xenek blind and Avian X Jake and hen decoy.
For the few times I anticipate getting out, I will be using a 58" PCHX, 45lbs, 30" 6mm FMJs, 75 grain brass inserts with 175 grain 3 blade VPAs, out of a Primos Shack Attack blind, Avian X hen and Jake decoys. Seth, maybe get together for a hunt or two?

Absolutely! I'm going to get some cameras out as soon as the snow leaves.
54lb rustic archer mongol, axis 300 cut to 30", 165 grain grizzly, standard insert, 125 grain adapter, 3 3" feathers
Hidden Hunter blind, a couple of Avain decoys, several box calls, and several slates. Taking my son and mom.
A&H longbow 40# with GT shafts\Grizzly heads.
Or
Border Covert Hunter 40 ish #
And/or
a WF-19 ILF with TT 40# long limbs, GT with either grizzly heads, Simmons or VPA.
Built a new 58" longbow in case I use the blind. Double Bull Matrix (which I hate sitting in any blind) .
Bow is 48# , will use some Beman 400s with a big Magnus 2 blade on the front.
Also have an ASAT leafy I'm gonna try on them before the blind comes out.
I used to get sick of packing turkeys out, but cured that prob by going trad bow instead of shotgun and no blind!! LOL
Double Bull Blind, 58" Camo Schafer Silvertip, Easton Axis Arrows, tipped with 160 gr. Thunderheads. Avian X Dekes.
Howard Hill Half Breed, 56#, Wapiti cedars, Simmons Tree Sharks and a ghille suit/homemade ground blind.....very excited!
Black Widow PLX, 62" 47#@28", GT 600 Traditional XT arrows, 150 Grn Grizzly heads. Great Northern gadget adapter with a string tracker. Ameristep Big House popup blind.
Gonna be the deer setup. 50 lb Martin Hatfield, 4 fletch cedar arrow (wild turkey feathers, good MOGO 😀) with a W W broadhead. Will try a string tracker this year with a Big Mike blind. 40 year old box call and some cheaper dekes to round out the illusion.

Bear wood or mag A riser and 45#, 56-inch limbs out of a pop up blind. Easton axis .500 shafts tipped with Woodsmans or the large Snuffers, about 510-520 grains total weight
I'm handling 20# fine and I ordered 30# limbs which should be here tomorrow. My original 40# limbs are a no go unfortunately. If I can handle 30# do you think I should try it on them or am I asking for trouble?
I'm working on a new bow now, just for turkey season. Can't wait! I missed season last year due to some family medical issues, first season I missed in almost 20 years. Just made a new call, next is the bow, and then some new bamboo arrows. As far as the blind goes, I'll be sitting in the dirt somewhere, just up against a tree.
Tattoo Dave
I'll be shooting my trusty Omega Native, #42@28 with Grizzlies up front. Ill be sitting over DSD decoys in a Big Mike blind.

How do you like that shack attack blind. Im looking into getting a blind that will work for bows up to 62" without having to lean to much to not hit the roof. DO the windows go low so you can shoot something at like 5 yards?
Do not get a Shack Attack if you plan on using a 62" bow. It can work, but the angle has to be just right and you are limited in movements. I like the blind, but will be using a 58" recurve out of it.
David
DBD870... You'll be fine with 30# Just make sure your arrow is well tuned to the bow and your broadhead like a razor. I'd choose a long narrow broadhead. Like the Grizzly.

My rig is the same as my deer set up. Northern Mist Shelton that is 68" long and is 53# at 28" draw. I use wood arrows with two blade broadheads at 125 grains. I sit in a brush blind of all natural materials. I use my turkey target as a decoy along with a hen decoy. I am considering a laminated all wood bow at 54# with river cane arrows and stone points also. I have never killed anything with a stone tipped arrow. I just wish I was a better caller!

I've got a 45# board bow that I made that shoots a tad slower than my 30# recurve with the same arrows. Maybe it's not ideal but I think it would get the job done.
Changed over from my Samick, which I used to take a turkey last year, to a short 50", 47# Browning Cobra. Arrows are short as well -- only 28" to the back of the point. I can sit with my a** to the grass & hold the same canted position as standing. Going with woodies this year. 680 grains all-in with 2-bladed Zwickeys up front.
Hoping to get out this weekend to scout out a new spot. Bow won't do me much good if I can't find something dumb enough to come to my sqawking.
- Sarrels Sierra - custom, 2-piece built for me
- Gold Tips with custom cresting and Grizzly broadheads
- Self made tooled leather armguard
- American Leathers glove
- Thunderhorn quiver
- Lights Out pot call
- If I harvest one, I'll be processing it with a Polk Knives Small Game Hunter or Polk Knives Woodsman that I made, depending on my mood.
I can't wait we have a 2 1/2 weeks to go until our opener in GA and a youth hunt the weekend before. I am hunting with my Thunderchild 46#@28" and I draw to 29". My arrow set up is a 500 Beman Centershots with a 50 grain insert and a big Magnus Snuffer up front which I don't think they make anymore. The broadhead with the adapter is 170 grains so 220 with the insert. I have a pop up blind but have been thinking of trying the Primos Stakeout blind which looks pretty portable.
I am getting pumped for the season as well! we open on the 20th here in SC, so 14 days away.
I will be hunting with one of my TallTines. Either my 60" stickflinger 56@28 or 60" recurve 54@28. FMJ 400's with either 200gr Terminators or Tree Sharks.
Big mike or primos xl blind
avion x decoys
& way to many calls for my own good, but always end up primarily using legacy diaphragms and my Grand Slam hen wingbone.

TNX it measures 32# at 28" and I find I need to short draw it just a little bit to be able to use it so it looks like 30# is right at the top end of what I can handle. After a year and a half I suspect that's about where I'm at for good now. I'm really tempted to use some deer type broadheads, make my max 15 yards and give it a shot
I don't use blinds, but i do have a Big Jim Bush in a Bag. Question, I have Permethrin 10%. Am i thinking correct, that one half ounce in 10 ounces of water would equal the ready made commercial stuff? What ratio do others use? Ticks are thick in our river areas around here every year in spring.
Due to having an ongoing fight with cancer I've had to drop down in draw weight for now. I'll be using my 42lb Bear Montana, ICS Bowhunter 500s with a 125 grain two bladed Magnus Stinger up front. Its a comfortable setup that I shoot pretty well.
Bow: TimberGhost...60":..strings to a length of a standard 56" recurve...47@28
Arrow: GT Ultralight 340...100 gn insert...190 gn Tree Shark...570 gn total
Blinds: multiple types
Calls: Suction yelpers, box calls, friction and tubes
Decoys: DSD
Taking much hope along. Hoping to successfully arrow number 35.
My foam core 55lb recurve I made 4yrs ago a leafy suit and a swivel seat I rigged from two others, and hickory shafts with ace 200grn two blade, same as deer.

My 58" Javaman Elkheart 42# @ 28". Goldtip 3555s with my Dads 160 grain Bear Razor heads.
Jason
Kwyk Styk, 56" and 50@28. 29" gold tip trads tipped with Simmons Tigersharks (175 grains) OR 125 grain Tom Bombs with 100 grain inserts. Primos ground max pop up and a variety of calls.
I've been shooting at tennis balls from a stool at 10-15 yards. Hitting 4 out of 5.
Really considering trying the Tom Bombs. Seems like a kill or miss proposition.
LOL (Lots of luck everybody!)
I am hoping to finish with a compound to recurve project I have going and use that bow for turkey this year. I like the Gold Tip arrows and will tune the setup to shoot with the Piledriver 2-Blade Screw-In, 150 gr. Broadheads. The arrows will be fletched with brown and green and cap-dipped in a tan or brown.
When I hunt in a blind, we have a couple of the Double Bull Deluxe blinds. Plenty of room for Lisa and I to both sit in. I have a hunt planned for out west in Oklahoma on some federal and state land. That will be a "spot and stalk" or quick set up situation and I will be using the pocket blind rig I have described before. That's where the "camo" arrows are important. Since Turkeys can see color I don't think I want to be waving bright colored fletching around.
OkKeith
Blackwidow PLX 64" 56@28" with carbon express 250s with 175 gr VPA 3 blades. Various calls and I will be using my double bull dark horse blind with a jake and hen DSD decoys.
Pavan, have you discussed Permethrin with any of the military guys who have been deployed in recent times? I talked with a guy who said they soaked their uniforms in a solution, and it was effective for many weeks. He did not know the dilution ratio, though. The commercial spray that I use is 0.5% permethrin and is very effective. It also lasts through several washings, but I touch up every single time I go out. I've been through a couple of tick borne diseases, so this is very important to me.
Bear T/D 58" 48@28(drawing 30) Bullheads or 160 snuffers. Primos predator blind. Has worked in the past for me.
Mostly we just go mow, rabbit hunt a little in the mornings and evenings and watch them strut around the house and barn.

I will be shooting my Martin Mamba 55#@28", I will be launching a 28 1/4 inch Gold Tip Traditional arrow, 50 grain brass insert, 125 grain steel broadhead adapter tipped with a Zwickey Delta 2 blade. Total arrow weight 615 grains. As for calls, Lynch Champion box call, Woodhaven slate and Clear Boggy copper pot & peg calls, (with numerous strikers),. I really like the sounds I'm getting out of my Clear Boggy copper pot & peg call. As for my turkey decoys, I use Flextone Thunder turkey decoys, 2 hens and jake or strutting tom decoy, pending on what's going on. I will be in a Ameristep blind.
13" VPA riser
Long Soul carbon wood limbs
52@28
Gold tip hunter 400 with 100 grain brass inserts and a 125 grain snuffer
Same setup I used this past deer season. WF19 riser, black max limbs. Axis shaft tuned to accommodate a big tree shark head. String tracker.
Fox High Sierra 46#@28". GT 3555. 125 gr Snuffer SS or Stinger with 100 great inserts.
I built a custom ghuille that I'm looking forward to trying out.
Flextone dekes, hens and strutting jake over one of the ladies.
Good luck all!
67lb Mountain Monarch, Dark Timber 340 spine tipped with a BigJim 3 blade broadhead. I have kilt 5 birds with this head and the longest travel after shot was 20 yards maybe.
Shot one on Thursday last week that went maybe 10 yards. Kinda sucked cause if he would have went another 10 yards or so, he may not have scared off the other 3 toms standing within range
