Title: String tracker string
Post by: AkDan on February 28, 2019, 02:05:25 AM
Dusted off my string tracker and it had me thinking about what guys are using these days.   Its been awhile but i thought the go to was 30lb till it was dis continued.

Has anyone tried power pro or fireline as a string tracker line?

This is for those using them turkey hunting.

3 years rarely shooting has been way too long!

You might try Chad here, a sponsor, https://www.driftertraditionalarchery.com/collections/hunting-gear

It says he is currently sold out on webpage but could check status. I have not tried any other material.

Try "Turkey hunting secrets" store- they list both 17# & 30# spools for string trackers.

I've been told the 30lb has more of a significant effect on arrow flight past 12 to 15 yards.

I've only used to 17#, and it had worked great. The last time I bought it, I got it from the Turkey Hunting Secrets website. I don't see any way fishing line would work! The string needs to be cooled do it feeds out from the center.

And when you miss, you can use the expended line to make your decoys move a little!

I just got a string tracker with 30# string from "turkey hunting secrets" . I usually don't shoot them beyond 15 yards so 30# string is fine.

Guys I lost my source for the string. I suggest www.turkeyhuntingsecrets.com
I do still make the leather string tracker that goes on the bow.
I have been trying to find a new manufacture with no luck. Anyone know some one please PM me.
The 30 comes off the spool better and has no effect with my gear 50-55@29" draw. Only negative is there is not as much string on the spool. I've shot plenty of game with both sizes.

I tie a loop and loop it around the broadhead ferrell.  Tighten the loop and screw the head in the rest of the way.

How much string is on a 17 lb spool? While practicing etc do you wind it back on the spool or is it a one shot deal?

John, I put the string against the arrow, right behind the broadhead, with tag end forward. Wrap one time with electrical tape, fold the tag end back towards feathers and wrap the tape another turn or two.
It holds well and easy to do in the dark or cold. I have all my arrows wrapped with the tape, just peal back and put string in place.
