It has always difficult for me to do an objective review of any product designed for ground hunting however this is one exception:
I recently ordered and received a PacSeat from our Sponsor David Waldrop. David sent me one of his creations and can tell you that it is BOMB! Quiet as a mouse (can't make it make noise) solid as an Abrams Tank and as light as a feather. A LOT of thought based on hunting experience has been integrated into this seat. It doubles as a pac-frame and a comfortable, solid and whisper quiet all-day seat.
Absolutely the best I have ever found for ground hunting! Real nice for sitting around a camp fire as well..
I'm sure this post will eventually make its way to "product reviews" (as it should) but I think it deserves a spotlight here.
Thanks David!!

This is an awesome seat! I purchased mine from Mr. Waldrop late summer and I killed a doe this season using it and had some awesome close up encounters. I am mainly a tree stand hunter but it was nice to have an additional option for the ground especially when you need to quickly adjust for wind. I now carry it when going to hunt a stand and if I have to adjust the option is there. Can't wait to use it this Turkey season, I was just outside shooting at my Turkey target out of the Pac Seat.
I have used one now for several years. Great product and it has improved my hunting a lot. Many close encounters when I use my ghillie suit. Worth every penny!!!
I just got mine today ((( thanks Dave ))) its built great and I only got to sit on it in the kitchen but 1st thing I noticed is this seat is very comfortable with the back leg out in the position it came in I'm not sure but I could of napped right there. I sat on the ole nifty seat this past Saturday trying for a coyote but this Saturday will be the pac seats debut,,, I really think by looking it over after and seeing how well built and functional it can be especially after I mount some kind of a pack to it ,, this seat is going to be a winner for me.
and I have a Ghillie also which when I bought I had this seat in mind to compliment it,,, I can't wait for turkeys and deer...
I got rid of all my other seats. Have had mine for four years. this is the one.👍👍
I'm waiting anxiously for mine. I ordered one from David about 2 weeks ago. He said he was about 3 weeks out on building and shipping. I'm looking forward to trying some ground hunting next deer season. I'm also going to give it a shot during turkey season. I've not done much turkey hunting but this seat will having me try it this year.
His seats are the bomb. All the way around. And even in camp at the Camp Fire.
Make no mistake this is one fine hunting chair.I need to order another one just in case.
Own some hi end priced seats.
However, I do own a Waldrop. Mine has been on approximately 150 hunts. The Waldrop is easily my number one choice for ground hunting and versatility to get to the ground both stealthily and quietly and when in tighter quarters.
Great Seat!
Great seat for the ground Hunter. Like Terry said above, I said last year, that I needed to order another one "just in case". Now I have two and that makes me very happy. Hard to beat the Waldrop Pack seat.
I love mine, and I won't go on a hunting trip without it. The mobility you have with it is fantastic.
Best hunting seat you can buy. And Dave is a great guy. I emailed him with a question and he called me in 15 minutes. He also addressed my issues and actually sent me a replacement part for free. My seat is about 6 years old.
Great product, great design, great customer service, great guy. :clapper:
The Pac Seat is indeed a well made, comfortable seat, with the ability to accept all kinds of adaptations and modifications to make it fit your individual hunt needs. That being said, I prefer to do my business with good people. Dave Waldrop is good people. He's got a pleasant easy way about him and is a pleasure to talk to. He makes a good product that does what it should and lasts. It's easy to give my money to people I like and who I feel aren't just takers but are part of this "community" that we all share in. Dave is that kind of guy. If there was one tip I'd give, especially to those over 5'10" or so is to ask Dave to make the seat 2" taller. It doesn't sound like much, but that extra two inches makes a big difference. I'm 6'1" and I'm very glad I had that change made. Easier to get up and out of and more comfortable when sitting.
This is definitely a great product, and those who are curious about attaching a pack to theirs, I just use bungee cords and they work fabulous. It's a very adaptable hunting tool that I use often
Dang it Yukon Chuck now your going to make me purchase another one 2" taller. I didn't know he could do that.
Anything you all do for attaching decoys for turkey hunting? I carry two, both Dave Smith decoys a half strutting jake and a hen. Both are not the collapsable kind so they have some bulk. I was thinking of just bungee strapping them onto the back of my seat or looking into the cargo net that Kifaru sells but will start with the bungee straps.
Having a very bad back I have been hunting on the ground for several years. I have been searching for a good light weight chair that's easy on my back. This seems to be the ticket. Is it easy to get out of for a over weight guy ?

Absolutely...You can adjust the seat angle as it holds the ground - and - the relationship of your back and seat to the ground.

Darn me too! My only complaint about mine is seat is not tall enough. Didn't know that was even an option or I would have asked him to do it. Urgh!
Ordered one this week....looking forward to it!

Kelly,
I started hunting Whitetails in Michigan with a bow in the late 6O's......hunting the ground was Michigan's rule of law back then.
For lack of better options we used "seats" not even close to the quality of the Pac-Seat...and when we could see a deer approaching, we would normally abandon the seat...get down closer to the ground and move into position as the deer (hopefully) wandered into a spot for a shot.
I don't really think that you can position any seat perfectly for a shot when there are too many things that can change the scenerio...but you CAN be comfortable and quiet while you move into a good shot.
The PacSeat is quiet as a mouse...and comfortable. What's not to like?
Absolutely the best (and most versitle) seat I have found...all around! :wavey:
I know dave uses a old backpack on his seat but might there be a popular pack that just fits the pack seat perfect? I ordered a alpha hip pack to try but might check out the Kifarus because of all the cinch points they have,,,,,, expensive but I want the pack that goes on my seat to not dangle and to last as long as the seat.
Not sure how old "Yukon Chuck's" Pac Seat is but David now offers a seat 2 inches taller than the older version. He actually has an extension that you can add to your older version. Give David a call and he can fill you in. :shaka:
That is cool, never knew such a thing existed. can it hang low on a tree also?

Just me: I can't see how it would "hang" onto anything...seems the design is specifically engineered for ground. However, if you pm or email David, I'll bet he can give you some more insight. And that could get his engineering juices flowing...I'd love a ground level "hang-on" seat that models the PacSeat in quality and comfort...who knows?? :wavey:

No need to hang it on a tree. Just lean it against one.
Check out his website and videos. Great seat and well worth the money!

So are these stand alone seats or do you tie them to a tree?
Free standing or you can lean on a tree or post. I have leaned it in a crotch of a blow down more than once. you can goggle it and watch a video on how it works.

I had no idea there was an "original" but am delighted with my original. Just playing around with my new Pac Seat I would opt for the original....definitely good (high) enough..for me. I am 6'2" in stature but will most likely (out of habit) slip outta my PacSeat and find myself on knees and waiting for the kill-shot. I hunt Whitetails almost exclusively and choose to never hunt over bait....just me. 'Fair Chase" appeals to me the same as it was in Northern Michigan in the early 70's.
David, your PacSeat is about 25 years late for me (better late than never) However... it was worth waiting for...lookin' forward to comfortable and successful hunts going forward
I could have saved a lot of time, effort and money if I had found the Waldrop Pacseat before trying everything else "homemade" or sold on the market.
The only thing that I use with it that makes it as comfortable as my "Lazyboy" is an old fleece back pack that the zipper had broken on. I put together several layers inside it and hog ringed it shut. It's easily carried inside the pacseat. It adds comfort and height to my seat.
Staying awake in the woods became my biggest issue using my pacseat...lol

Just talked to David this am, going to get the leg extensions for my old pack seat. Ain't getting ant younger and a bit taller will be a good thing on this old body. He really is a pleasure to talk to.
Talked to David earlier this week and the extensions will be coming my way in a few weeks. My bad knees will like a taller seat.
These are the extensions on the front legs...just 2" but makes a big difference.

They may be a nice product but I sure can't spend more than I did for my wife's living room recliner. :banghead:

Thanks Jeff!
I wondered how that retro-fit would be engineered. Simple fix!!

:bigsmyl: I am thinking that hiking in a couple miles and than hauling out several pork hams has just been made much easier. :coffee:
David is the salt of the Earth type guy....
Absolutely no reason not to do business with this guy...
Just ran into this post figured I'd comment.
David is a fantastic individual and makes an awesome product. I actually have 2 of them. Bought my first one around 12 years ago and currently in the process of getting the newer/taller version. My personal opinion, you will not find a better or more comfortable seat for ground hunters on the market. You also have the opportunity to talk with an extremely nice and helpful fella that has tweaked and scrubbed these seats into what I think is the best ground hunting seat I've ever had the pleasure of setting my backside in!
Only problem I've had with the seat is when I turkey hunt in a blind and I'm seated for a long time. My tail can get a blister from sliding on the seat. Solution is a gel foam pad that makes it even more comfortable...tippit

I will be ordering one after the holidays!!
Love mine, have had it for a few years, Great product, and very well made
I have had mine for many years now. It is the only portable seat I do not hate. I am packing it in on the upcoming PBS Davis Mountain hunt for a camp chair. We are packing in a weeks worth of everything, It is still going on the outside of my mystery ranch Metcalf. I could actually put all my gear in a dry bag and strap it to the packseat and it will work just as well.

I like setting against a tree like this photo as much as I do stand alone with back legs support out. With a bow quiver on bow, haversack for a few supplies and the cushion showing here, you can sit comfortably for hours and hours and be totally mobile. My haversack includes a little folding saw, set of clippers, zip ties and the head off a small plastic toy rake that I use for clearing leaves and debris.
Bought mine a few yrs ago and I cant say enough good things about my Pac Seat.
Here's mine- used during the PA Buck rifle season...I don't leave home without it!!![attachment=1]
Ordered one yesterday, should be here Feb/March 2021 timeframe! Dave is a class act!
I got mine at the end of the 2019 season, so this was the first full season of use, and it's been great. The only thing I'd change would be the height...at 6'3" it sits a little low for me. I've heard that David can make them taller, but his website states that there is only 1 size/style of seat. Does anyone have any experience with a taller version or a conversion that might work?
Dave did ask for my height, and at 6 foot, I will be fine with his standard seat. He did mention he does make them taller for taller people.
He makes custom leg extensions. Should be easy fix.
Ok, good to know. I'll give him a call. Thanks
I love mine and have killed a bunch of critters out of it. I think it is perfectly fine for big guys.
I just sent in my deposit today, cant wait to try it out.
I've procrastinated long enough!
Sent my deposit yesterday.
When I first got mine, I thought I could improve on it. I came up with a nifty swivel seat and, against Davids recommendations, had him make my seat the taller version. Well, for the first month I used my swivel seat ,which worked great, but after using the the Pac Seat as David designed it, I realized it was more comfortable and functional just the way it came out of the box. Today I cut the legs and returned it to Dave's originally designed height. It is now perfect. Dave has designed and refined this seat to perfection. He has simplified it and removed every unnecessary ounce. From where I sit, the Pac Seat is pure perfection.
