Finally, retired after 33 years 9 months with DoD, civil servant. First 8 years with the US Army and final 26 years with the US Air Force. Worked safety and weapons safety, as some of you know working for the government can be challenging. As I told the folks at my retirement lunch, they all had and impact on my career; some good some otherwise, but you take it all and wade it into a ball then smooth it out and go with it. This is just one more step down the trail and we'll move on from here. Looking forward to more hunting, Mt Biking and hiking the AT. Plan to drag my youngest brother with me, he's 52. Gotta keep the kid out of trouble.
Congrats! I retired a little over a year ago. I spent the summer hiking, fishing, canoeing, and just exploring , and took a 3 week trip to Utah camping and exploring the backcountry , then almost hunted myself into a coma this fall, and I've spent lots of time with family, I watched my dad work all his life only to pass away a year or so after he was forced to retire due to health issues, then I had a friend die of a heart attack at work.. you never when it's over, or we can't do it anymore. we weren't put on this earth to work everyday . I hope to enjoy the next years in similar fashion to this past year. It's nice having a week of 6 Saturday's and a Sunday . Again congrats, enjoy yourself
congrats, AT sounds like a great adventure, have fun, stay safe and take it all in. I hope all that hunting time is prosperous.
Sounds like a good plan. Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for your life long service to our security and freedom.

One month, four days to go--but who is counting!
I retired 13 years ago. Loved every minute of it. First year I hunted 88 days . Killed the smallest buck I saw all season on the last hour of the last day of season and was tickled to death. I hunt mainly alone since retirement, but sometimes get to go with a friend or two. My time in the field has increased ten fold.

Right on!!!! I have 31 years DoD.... 13 and change in the Army and just turned 18 in Air Guard as a federal technician. I hope you chime in on how much more hunting you're getting to do! I'm looking at maybe 5 more years and following your lead!
Congratulations and thank you for your service!

I'm three years into retirement, and I recommend it highly! I've been gone from home as much as I've been here, thousands of miles on the road, several trips out west and as far north as Alaska. Last summer I drove from Anchorage to my home in Mississippi with a lady friend, the best road trip of my life! Moose, grizzly bears, black bears, caribou, stone sheep, elk, and bison along the Alaska Highway. All of that done before and after hunting seasons, the highlights of the year! I've gotten seriously into mushrooming, too, and have eaten around 15 species so far. I'm probably busier now than I was while employed... retirement can be addictive!
Congrats on retirement, I'm looking for a way to work less and play more. I've depleted my loans and now need to figure out the retirement fund and health insurance. Still would like to have a job but want the lifestyle of a retiree. Congrats again
Thank you for your service and hope your retirement brings much more time afield

So far just two long Mt Bike rides 27.31 and 34.97 miles. Getting ready for an ACTS retreat my parish asked me to Direct, so I'm hopping.
Retirement is where it's at!!!!
I'll never understand anyone who says they won't have enough to do when they retire. Heck, I retired in 2011, I sometimes wonder how I ever had time to go to work??? [emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]
Congrats on your career! With all those years in, sounds to me like you earned your retirement!!!!

How is retirement working out? It certainly is great when every day is Saturday, isn't it? Plenty of time to shoot the bow! Even better, plenty of time to scout throughout the year! Congratulations on your retirement.
It's nice to be in Mass Sunday and realize you don't have to go to work Monday morning. Go to daily Mass then ride Mt Bike for @20 miles, then clean up some of the mess. Need to get on a bow shooting schedule now that I have time. Also, start fiddling with knife making.
Enjoy! Congrats on getting there. Hope to join you sooner rather than later.
Life is Good!!! God is Good!!!!!!!
I retired in October of 2017 (right before deer season of course!) I have to say it has been an adjustment, esp. the post-hunting-season-letdown.

Yes. I always gain a few pounds sitting on my butt in a stand that much for months so there is dealing with that as well.

I got 34 years in DoD and still to young I am 54 need to be 56. 2 years two months.
I had 30 at 56, but hung on til 60.
My plan is to take a trip early March to Granger WMA, hang my hammock and hunt hogs for a few days. Picked up a Magellan Origin 12 kayak that will allow quicker, silent access to some of the out of the way spots the piggies like to hold up in. Plus, if I get tired of killing hogs I can fish a little.

Planning a trip a bit North to Granger WMA, kayak in to hang my hammock and then pester the hogs for a few days. Still working on the "kitchen pass". Probably, take the BR recurve.
:coffee:  :archer2: :campfire:
Big River recurve it is with 750 grain Ash arrows, 190 grain Ribtek up front.

I retired 6 years ago after 43 years as a Forester, have to say retirement is the best job I ever had! :big laugh: I just got back from Africa and have been having lots of hunting adventures since I retired! I always told myself as soon as I retired I was going to hunt every time I could and I have done that, it's been great!! I've had some amazing adventures! You will love retirement and will wonder how you found time to work all these years!! Have fun and enjoy, you deserve it!
Congratulations!

Enjoy a splendid and fulfilling retirement and many thanks for serving our beloved country.
Made m first trip to Granger post retirement, solo which makes my wife crazy. Me all alone in the Wilderness!!! This was the maiden voyage for my Origin 12 kayak. Much better than the canoe I have. Still a good workout for a borderline senior citizen. Did about 10-12 miles on the river over the two days (Thurs afternoon-Sat morning). Camped at primitive with my hammock and pestered piggy's with my Big River 66# recurved bow. Did see several beds and one that was dug into the ground and about as long as my strung bow (58"). Wind was towards the river most of the time I was there which worked well. Did bust three (80#-60-60) out of a briar patch at the tail end of the field behind camp, just off the river. They cleared the briars at @20 yards and were at 30-40-50-60 yards in a few seconds. Would have worked much better with a group and have shooters posted on the sides at the upper end of the patch(out of the direct wind), so that when the pigs busted they would have had shoots. Pushing pigs solo at Granger is fun, but tough. Didn't see any hunters. Spent more time exploring the river with yak for next time. Not pork on the ground, but smile on my face and recharge of my batteries.

This is my sleeping arrangement. Two trees and some nylon. Then me hamming as I get ready to hit the river with all the gear required. Then a Boar hog bed that he probably visits on a regular basis. Bow is 58" strung.
Retired from the Navy in July 2017 , DOJ in June 2018 . Wish I'd done it years ago !! Lol
Retired from DoD in 2010, with 33+ years.
It's a good feeling to get up and then decide what the day has in store.
TG retirees ought to have our own Rondie and hunt each other. Have it start on a Monday.
