Mark your calendars for one of the best shoots on the planet, June 20-23. The Colorado Traditional Archers Society High Country Shoot is held in the middle of elk country the weekend after Father's Day every year. Six 3-D ranges, novelty shoots, vendors, food and fun. Primitive camping with porta potties provided (large RVs to 2 man tents). Typically around 500 shooters. See you there.

My favorite place to attend each year! Traditions Leathercraft would like to set up again this year as a vendor. I have lots of new items to bring. I'd also like to put my order in for great weather without all the wind we experienced last year!
I attend a lot of 3D shoots but the High Country Shoot is by far my favorite.
Absolutely one of the best and have to say the best setting for a 3D shoot any where. See you there
A buddy and I went for the first time last year. Great shoot.
There's a slight chance I can make it back this year. Hopefully it works out!
Anybody going to the banquet, I am headed down tomorrow.
Another great Banquet thank you CTAS, even though the guest speaker bailed at the last minute,
not sure we missed anything there anyhow,
Marv Clyncke stepped up and gave a great presentation, short notice, on the history of archery and bowhunting in CO
the other speakers did a great job---ultra light back pack hunting, and a experienced guide of alaska great presentations !
Thank you CTAS Crew!
It was a good banquet. I had fun and met some new folks and caught up with others.
I really miss those banquets a lot of great people to meet there.
The banquet was fun, get the shoot on your calendar.
Yessir, this is one the good ones. We attended in 2016 and will be back again this year.
Can't wait!
Jack
Another month closer!
:campfire:
Only 2 months away!
Registration, online and mail in is now open!
Hard to believe, only one month away!
just saw a picture of the flat tops CTAS shoot site.... solid snow.... it will melt, hopefully soon!
Yep about 2' of snow still on the ground and it snowed again yesterday. Supposed to warm up finally.
Coming from Louisiana, it would be awesome if there was still some snow hanging around.
I'd like to attend the High Country shoot this year with TradArchers' World magazine. How do I register/sign up?
Tom,
You can go here http://colotradarchers.com/annual-high-country-shoot-2/ and get the registration form. Otherwise, look on the CTAS website and look for contact information for the board and you should be able to narrow down who you want to contact (general registration or vendor). Hope this helps
warmest regards

I'm told the snow is still 2 ft. deep at the site. Is there an alternate in case it is impassable do to mud/ice/snow?
MAP
We have an alternate site at a slightly lower elevation. It is looking warm and dry for awhile so hopefully we will be good to go.
The snow is mostly gone, still some snow in the shady areas, just still wet and muddy but should be dried out in two weeks. With all the moisture it may be a bad mosquito year so bring spray.
thanks for the update Mark, plan to see you up there, camp fires should be ok?
See you guys there !
Look forward to meeting you Ben (I am the guy that will be selling hats, shirts, etc most of the time). Scott, I would think campfires should be ok this year.

I'm jealous Jeremy! Hoping I can make it next year
Looks like we are good to go at the regular site. Heading up Friday to lay out the ranges.
How many milk jugs should I bring?
MAP
As many full ones as you can comfortably handle.
Just pre registered, new lower price for the shoot, wow cool, :shaka: now theres extra beer money :campfire:
best shoot in the country :archer2: really look forward to this every year, the best big game practice you will ever encounter, 3 d targets scattered over the Colorado high country, CTAS does a world class job with this shoot
have a brand new two piece recurve bow from Mike Hays, Black canyon, going to get a work out! woohoo!!!
Just pre-registered myself...looking forward to it. Missed last year ans wasn't about to let that happen again
Bringing a new traditional convert too, so it should get him extra hooked
Save a couple rounds for me Mark!
Glad you are going to make it Jake. What is left of the snow is coming off fast. Still some big mud holes that may limit some camping. Hopefully more drying this week.
The wife and I made it to Colorado today. Going to do a little sightseeing and a little scouting for the next few days. We should be at the shoot by Thursday morning.
Thanks for the heads-up mark...I'll be up Thursday evening.
See you at the sales booth Friday morn.
You guys have a good time. Gonna miss being up in the high country.

Well after all the work putting the shoot together and setting up, Mother Nature sent us a summer snow storm (snowed for three days). It definitely put a damper on the shoot.

Thanks for all your hard work !
Cheers
It was nice meeting you Ben, hope you can make it back sometime under normal conditions.
I was visiting family in Keystone a 2 hr. drive away so I decided to go( first time). Got there Thursday afternoon, helped with the new tent and shot 3 courses afterward, got rained on halfway through the extreme course, got a little soggy but not drenched, it was fun and a challenge navigating the courses, not for anyone out for a leisurely walk through the forest. Little did I know it was the best day to shoot. I stayed in town 20 min ride away on a Co. dirt gravel Rd, not good when the weather turns wet and snowy. Sat. morning started out beautiful after a hard spring I mean summer snow all day Fri. witch I never even attempted to go up there that day, instead I went to Glenwwood Springs and soaked in the Hot Springs all day. I made it back up Sat morning( whew) I should of not attempted that, but did not drive much further in from the entrance the road in was very wet and rutted so I walked the rest of the way to the food tent, Ate breakfast shot in the snow a little and left about 11:30 to get back to a family function in Dillon. The Drive back to Dillon was great highway 70 was dry and the sun was shinning, of course that changed quickly and it rained and snowed till Mon. morning witch again was a beautiful day to travel back home. I think the weather changed from sun to rain to snow about 20 or more times throughout the time I was out there, early summer in the mountains can be a wonderful bitch depending on weather you stayed safe or not. Not gonna comment any further because of the weather, I hope everyone got out of there safely.
Sometimes the weather cooperates, sometimes it doesn't.

fire=fun, stuck truck, not fun. yikes
I stayed and shot all day Fri and Sat; had to leave early Sun. It was certainly cold and challenging in several ways but I shot every course at least twice and had a great time. The board members and shoot volunteers did a truly heroic job of keeping things going. To all of them who may be reading, THANK YOU for all you did and for a great shoot.
I got to shoot 2 rounds Sat. My nephew came up from Denver and learned about 3D. The BBQed pork was great. The Fred Bear course was fun as always. What do I do now with all the milk jugs in the back of my rig?
MAP
Michael, you could save them for next year? :bigsmyl: It was nice meeting you.
I'll save them for when you come down in Jan.
