Somebody is going to have a great hunt! Wish I could just stay for another week.
This is a terrific bear hunting opportunity. [attachment=1] I'm hunting week 1 this year. Won't be long now!
If you want to have the best bear hunting experience, this has my highest recommendation!
Close shots, great people, and lots of bears.

I have been itching to go on another Canadian bear hunt...
My last hunt was in Quebec in 2014. I got my first bear on that trip.
Do yo have a high number of color phase in Manitoba?

Jason-
Yes, there are a lot of color phase at Stickflingers. I have taken a chocolate and saw several cinnamon and blonde bears as well while hunting with Ryan.
What are the avg sizes?
In Quebec bores avg 200-250. At least where I go. However, there are so many bears there, that there is a lot of compition for food!
1 I sent email immediately upon this thread... I hope you got it
Hey guys! Thx for the reply's. Sent you an email Terry. As for size, I feel weight is a measurement that is often an estimate or approximation so we try to stay away from weights. If we wanted heavy bears we'd hunt them in the fall. Fall hunts are not as consistent as spring so we keep it to spring. That said, I'm sure our bears at least match the ones of the east.
My spring bear with stickflingers weighted 376# on a scale. Great camp and great people.
This is a great place and a great experience. I killed a bear there last year and had a terrific time. There will be times when there are so many bears banging around that you might want the activity to drop back a few clicks. Ryan is a first class gent and this place will exceed your expectations.
In 2018 I saw 43 different bears and only hunted five days. There was never too long of a stretch without some bear activity. Some bears would chase others off into the woods and other bears would sneak in to snack before the dominant bear returned. There were cubs in the trees around me many times. They would climb way up and then fall asleep on these tiny little branches to wait for Mom to eat. Some times it's hard to get out of the stand, because the bears are still on the bait.
Last year I had a gorgeous cinnamon/blonde sow even climb up my ladder to check me out. [attachment=1]
Been there twice and saw over twenty bear on my bait each trip. Multiple color phase as well. Black, chocolate, cinnamon, and yellow. My last one will easily make Pope and Young, if I decide to enter it. See my avatar.
You also get to meet some great bow hunters from all over the country.
And, Ryan is just plain fun to be around, when he isn't working his butt off to give you a chance at a really big bear.
I love that place.
Thx guys for the support and sharing your experiences. The spot is still up for grabs if anyone is interested? Thx for your time

If you are thinking about this hunt, don't hesitate to make the commitment. Not a problem to go solo. I had a great time and made a late decision to go when an opening like this became available. Based on my experience, you will likely make some friends that will hang with you long after the hunt...you will speak "traditional" for the solid week, you will have multiple, multiple opportunities to the point that some encounters will get your heart rate pretty darn high....and you will kill a good bear unless you pass and pass and pass etc...Ryan is a great outfitter and the value and quality of the hunt is unsurpassed. Talk to Ryan or others who have been up. PM me if you would like to as well.
You are killing me Ryan. Someone buy this hunt and put me out of my misery.
I'm going to New Brunswick in May so I can't do it.

What KodaChuck said x2
Someone needs to jump on this opportunity. This is a great experience!
Based on a couple bear hunts prior to Stickflingers/Ryan, I concluded most outfitters will do decent work for their clients. Some outfitters will do average work but really just cycle hunters through week after week. Some are even unscrupulous and tell you a few yarns about bears hitting the baits but you really don't see much game and you realize you are dealing with long, long odds after a few days....maybe it was the gum wrapper from last week's guy who spent the week in the same stand you are in. Then if you are lucky and fortunate, you navigate your way to Manitoba and have a life changing bear hunt with Ryan that is so far beyond what you ever experienced or expected, you might just think you are in heaven. Hunted there last year....going back again this Spring. It was that good. If anyone out there is on the fence about a bear hunt, look no further. Talk to any trad guy who has made the journey and hunted there. The enthusiastic motivation here on my end is to highlight this place to a fellow hunter ....knowing they will be totally satisfied.
This is a great hunt for big black bears in Manitoba. I have been 3 times and heading there again next year. You won't be disappointed on this hunt. Lots of bears, great guides and new friends. Just a great outfitter and camp.
Thx for the support guys! This has been the longest a hunt has been available. Must be losing my touch? It's still up for grabs
My 2012 giant. I'll be back in 2020!

Dang, Jim! Never thought to take a picture of my monster's paw. BTW, notice the entrance wound. Definitely not a "center/center" shot. I doubt he went 40 yards.
Been to Ryan's twice and saw bear this good each time. Not saying it will happen every time, but the odds are pretty good. Slightly under 7 ft square.

Hopefully in about year when my daughter gets out of college I'm making a trip to to hunt with you.
Still available
This will be my 4rth trip. Can't wait for May to get here!
This is a wonderful experience with great people, both hunters and guides.
I will be driving 1220 miles by my self again, but it is worth the effort[attachment=1]

Just got back from getting my bear measured. It is now official. I have Pope and Young qualifying bear skull. It totaled 18 and 9/16". I am happy with that.
My 2017 boar measured 19 12/16. He was big, but I have seen at least 3 that were even larger, but that did not give me the correct shot opportunity. His teeth were in great shape, so I don't think he was that old or as big as he could have been in a few more years.
Ryan's area certainly has the gene pool for some Boone and Crockett bears!
This year I will be holding out for an even larger bear or a large colored bear. With all the bear activity, the daily hunts are very enjoyable and the time on stand passes quickly.
Here's one that walked up to within 8 or 9 feet away before turning to the bait. (I was starting to get a little nervous!)[attachment=1]
Normally....Ryan's camp is booked years out as you can tell from the posts. Last year, a fellow was in a vehicle accident and couldn't make the hunt.....only way I could buy the ticket. Exceptional hunt.
My closest encounter was a huge boar at 2 yards. I was in a heavily brushed in ground blind and there were several trails and one trail passed 4-5 feet from the blind. I cut a little shooting window in the brush in the direction of that trail just in case but didn't really expect action from that area as the other trails looked more used. I'm sitting there chilling out and look through the brush and see these big bear feet about 8 yards away. The bear was coming down that trail. I was getting ready to draw as the bear entered the little 18" window. The bear stopped. We were both on level ground and although I'm sitting, the shot angle is actually "up" since the bear is so tall. At this point, the bear is 2-3 yards but suddenly flips ends and leaves quietly. I'm kicking myself thinking I moved or my scent turned the bear but seconds later, a huge sow with a cub comes from the other direction and this boar apparently wanted no part of it. Typical day.

Just not big enough, but lots of color.
I saw chocolate, cinnamon and blonde bears all in one night at the Vinnie Lake stand.
Sent the check today for my party of four the week after the available hunt. You all better jump on this, it'll no doubt be the hunt of a lifetime!
I can't believe this is still open. If we were not already booked for SA this summer I would be all over this

Gary Smith here, just wanted to let everyone know how excited I am to make my 4th trip to Stickflingers. It is a 3 day trip for me which is about 2000 miles one way, but it will be worth the time involved.
Ahh! The other GS. I remember the photo. Extremely jealous this GS isn't the one going, but best wishes to you and hope you have a great time!
Shoot a good one.

Good luck Gary
