I had quite a few requests for boonie hats with Tradgang embroidered on the front. I have a couple of questions if any of y'all it would like a boonie hat I would like to help out that would be great.
Unlike t-shirts, I've never bought them for Tradgang before. I am a stickler for Quality items, and I really do not have a solid source for boonie hats that I know will be quality made and quality materials. If any of you that use boonie hats could recommend a company to me that would be great.
And the only other question I have is how many of y'all would like to purchase one? I need to know if there's enough volume just be worth it to set all this up as my previous embroider is no longer in business and I'll have to pay a setup fee with a new vendor.
Thanks.... :campfire:
Cant answer any of your questions but would like to have a hat.
I'd be interested.
My Propper hat has been bomb proof. I'd take a couple, one orange lettering on camp, one light lettering on dark cloth
Don't know of a maker,but would take 2.

I don't see blaze orange though.
I would like one as long as the brim isn't too wide. Some of them get ridiculous.
I would want darker greens or browns. Camo is cool too.
Jeremy
KUIU, I have two that are very comfortable and functionable.
The brim is critical for me, most boonies have a big brim which I find distracting when a bowstring pushes it down more in front of my eye.
Also don't like the slick shiny fabrics!
I'm in the process of cobbling-up my own hat in gray plaid wool. I think a wool fabric is what would do best for trad. hunters. A plaid is just as good as any of the "camo" patterns.
JMC
I think a plaid in typical camo colors would be an interesting alternative. Something with a short, floppy brim that won't interfere with drawing the bow.
I have a big head. Some people would not be at all surprised to find that out. I can sometimes squeeze into a 7 5/8, but a 7 3/4 is often a better fit. Because of this, I have to pass on "one size fits most" hats, because they don't fit me.
I'd like one like KennyM described.
Perhaps you could get Asbell's to come up with a design??
I would take one as long it will be suitable for hunting. A soft not too long brimm is a must
Maybe a "bucket" style hat would be better than a boonie hat..? :dunno:
I would be in for one or two. I like the Tru Spec wide brim.
I like the bucket style as well.
I also like the bucket style, in either the camo or the plaid coloration.
I'd love to have one as well
I would buy a "boonie" but would prefer a "bucket" hat.
I second the Asbell Boonie motion. Wool is my friend and Asbell makes nice woolies.
I would like one. Any color combination that has been mentioned.
I'm interested. My boonie hats are all government issued. ..
I'd be in for a boonie (which I mostly wear now), or a bucket (which I'm willing to wear). Like others, my head has swelled over the years and I need at least a 7 5/8 inch hat. Swelling is not due to pride (archery keeps me plenty humble), but due to knowledge (archery has so much to learn and remember). When I manage to put some of my fat-headed knowledge into practice, I just may fool some into thinking I'm wise. O 'rue the day'!
Practice - Practice - Practice - Beer! Works for me . . .
I'd like one if you move forward with them.
I like boonies but once the brim gets over 2", I am out!
I'd be up for one. I also like the idea of a plaid - something in eveningstand brown would be nice. :goldtooth:
I am in as well... Would need an XL.
Terry I'm in too. Try Genuine Gear, I buy camo pants from them and they are bullet proof. I don't now wether they have Boonie hats but they sell military style gear so I would expect them to sell boonies also.

I would like one.
Sounds like bucket is more desirable than boonie.
Heckfire Kenny you all to know I'm not going to bring out nose shiny Chrome hat ha!!!
A lot of possibilitys with camo plaids.
I have a "Rothco" camo I got from Amazon. Totally satisfied. Will order a TG version. I have a big melon and would need a 7.5.
Hey Terry, a chrome hat would take the place of a HECS suit!! Keep all my energy under control... wait, I got no energy!! :bigsmyl:
something like this would be good:

nice small floppy brim, good hunting colors. (although Wool or Fleece Plaid would be aces for us cold weather folk) is Two Tracks still on here...maybe he could help out?
why not just have patches made then guys can sew them to whatever they wear, just a thought. :dunno:
I would buy a woodland or old school camo, wool would be nice.
Trad Gang Patches is a great idea. Most of us already have hats we enjoy wearing. We could order multiple patches for both Hunting and EDW hats. :clapper:
Anyone have contact info for the lady archer out of Alabama that sell's her hats at 3d shoots and shows under the name "the Alabama Hat Lady"? I believe her husband originated "Woodyweights". She is also a champion long bow shooter. I own two of her hats and really like them. I provided Teresa Asbell with contact info a few years ago and now I cannot find it. She just might be a good contact for Terry or anyone else interested in a good hat for the traditional archer.
I'd like bucket style.
Maybe Teresa could make a wool model and a summer cotton version.
I would be interested in a short brim boonie type. How about with gortex?
A short brimmed boonie or bucket hat would be nice. Would have to see the hat first, and yea I'm one of those big headed people so size would be important.
Have a couple of bucket hats from Day One ----- take a look and see if you like that style---I use my ASAT Day One Hat hunting until colder weather pushed me to wool.
Patches would be good too.
I like my KUIU boonie!
Would be in for a Tradgang
Camo bucket hats are my choice for warm weather bowhunting. I like to fold the front of the brim up so it doesn't touch the bow string at all when I shoot. I would jump on getting a new one in one of the predator-type open patterns or woodland camo or pretty much any warm-weather camo pattern. The Trad Gang logo is just icing on the cake.

Dang Smokin Joe, if it weren't for those deer killer eyes, I would have totally missed you in that photo. Become The Tree! :archer:
Hats would be cool. The patch idea would be my preference. just my 2 cents
I'd get one.
Hey Terry,
The predecessor to the boonie was the jungle hat. It has a shorter brim. Rothco makes the jungle hat and are marketed by various Army Surplus sites. They are crushable and will be a bit stiff at forst but mine softened up nicely after a few washes. I love bucket style hats but they are virtually non existent in camo now. The jubgle hat is a suitable alternative.
Duncan
Terry - I've used Queensboro (shirts, etc.) and Landsend(business) for shirts, caps, etc. and both have very good quality and will custom design and embroidery (logos, etc.).
As well, I've worn a boonie since being in SE Asia, but the regular Army ones that I have I don't like to wear when shooting a bow - as some others have said, that brim is just too wide (in my opinion too). Bucket hat style is good for me. Kuiu is #1 quality, if we could get a deal.
No matter what, please count me in for one of everwhat you come up with. Dark Green w/ orange embroidery (like those ls t-shirts) is fine with me! Doesn't have to be wool.
I 'd be interested in one for sure. Can always use a new hat.

I second Duncan's suggestion of a Rothco JUNGLE hat $14 and a shorter brim.
I personally like the Bucket hats because of the brim size. Bonnie's brims are usaully too big or too stiff than on most buckets.
I'd order one. I agree on the shorter brim.

The pentagon hat that hick stick showed would be good if you could find it cheaper . Looks like a good design .
I like the bucket hat that Jason Samkoviac wears. I think it is from Bass Pro Shops. Cheap and effective.
Galaxy Sports in Madisonville, KY 42431 is already setup for some Trad Gang embroidery work.
Obtained authorization from Rob DiStefano years back for personal use such as for hats and shirts.
Galaxy has an assortment of broadhead outlines with 'Trad Gang' detailed within the BH outlines.

I have a short brimmed boonie from a company called Rapid Dominance or RAPDOM. I have had it about 15 years and it's still going strong. The company is or was in Compton, CA. They came in over 7 colors if I remember correctly. Mine is Ciyote brown/khaki tan.
I did some research Rapid Dominance is still in business but the hats are not made in the USA. Recce a German company also makes a nice short brimmed boonie hat. I see them on the infamous auction sight quite often.
Thanks so much for all the comments. I'll be looking into this next week. Whatever I do it won't be from China. Thanks again.
I'm in for one.

I will be also looking into do-rags we used to sell a bunch of those.
Any updates on the hats?
Have already funded numerous broadhead designs with 'Trad Gang' assigned.
I'm in for both, boonie and a do-rag!
I'm still working on them...bear with me as I've had a terrible week.
I'd be interested in a short brim boonie style hat. Light weight wool perhaps. Really like the radar style caps we had before, got three.
