I'm posting this for Pappy...
Folks have been asking about the dates for the TN. Classic so here it is. It will beheld on May 3/4/5 2019 at TwinOaks Bowhunter's club / 1079 Ashley Rd. Chapmansboro, TN. 37035. You can get more info and directions from our web site [Twinoaksbowhunters.org] also we have video and pictures of previous Classics so if you haven't been before you can see what you getting yourself into. ;) Can't wait, it is like a big family reunion for me and many others. Hope to see ya there. As usual I will be there all week so come on anytime the gate will be open and the fire going. ;) :)
Pappy
Hope to see you all there! We are due for some good (dry) weather.
Might not get any dry weather here in the east if last year is an indication but it ain't a Classic without a little(or a lot) of rain.
The year, l went, l woke up by a creek that you could step across the night before. It had turned into a big creek. Still had a great time. Pat helped my boy with his bow. We shot the corse in the rain. My boy had to use his phone to keep score as the score cards had turned into pulp. He shot great and won the shoot for the people that made bows there. Going to go this year if possible. Don
A superior venue...
Don, I'm always pleased to help, especially the young folks, passing it on to our future.
The Classic is a great place to bring your kids. Lots of kids to play with and lots of parents to keep an eye out for them and a great place to learn to build a selfbow whether you are 6 or 60. There are quite a few excellent bowyers on hand to personally walk you through the process. And, the ranges are as good as it gets. The Twin Oaks team does a great job of setting up the courses with fair but realistic targets.

Is there any reasonably priced lodging close to the range? Thanks, Don
Free camping. Don, contact Pappy. He can give you that info. Might even be info on the Twin Oaks website.
Lots of Hotels on Exit 4 and 11 off I-24 which is 25-30min from the Shoot or less. If your coming, get a room off exit 11, just make a reservation early on. Off exit 4 or 11 of I-24 you have plenty places to dine, get supplies, etc. We get thru Jan and it's really just 3months away. So, not that far off folks.
Shawn~
It will be here before we know it.

Found my button, in my quiver, from the year l was there. It was 2009, the year Nashville flooded, l think. Didn't think it had been that long. Going to go this year if everything works out. Don
I was there too that year, Don. 14" in 2 days...fun camping.

Biggest show with stick and string in nation. Make sure you make it. Pickup a few choice hunks of Hedge. Keep you scraping!!

Nuttin like a good Tennessee Classic to fill the middle of a year up.
Never a dull moment at Twin Oaks. :archer2:
No, always doing something or another.
Mark your calendar, reserve yer time off and get to the greatest event in USA with stick and string.
Shawn~
I checked my work schedule and looks like if nothing changes I'll be off! Looking forward to a good time with great folks
Glad to hear it, Cory. You won't regret it.
I smell Hedge Apple !
SMag~
I hope to be there this year for the first time, not too far from me. Is camping recommended or is it pretty easy to get in and out of? Probably want to be there for at least 2 days.
Plenty of camping room. If you have a large camper you better contact Pappy first but tents and small campers are no problem. Folks start coming in the weekend before the Classic so near the Classic weekend you get the fewer spaces there are. :campfire:
Plenty room. Yer right Pat, if your dragging a 5th wheel or school bus sized camper come early for a spot or contact TOBH for specifics. They will get you in I'm purdy sure.

Is that a James Parker, you finish bamboo backed blank Pat? :goldtooth:
Shawn~
Either James or David Knight(RIP), Shawn. Rob came out with a nice shooting bow. He may have taken a bear with that bow.
Thats fantastic. Not sure i saw it finished up.
I just returned from hog hunt. Have to decide where i will hunt elk this fall soon. Leaning on Idaho hard again.
Either way it will be done by time The Classic arrives.
Shawn~
Sounds like an exciting adventure. How did the hog hunt go?
We took seven between two fella's. All small and mediums. They are eradicating them where we hunted which is good. Deer are coming back and turkeys too.
Feral hogs are the devil on native species and the trees, ground, dirt, etc. They eat anything that moves and lots that don't. I saw more deer this trip than in 5 preceding years combined in southern GA.
Its federal land and now they have lots of folks trapping them in big pens and it's keeping the numbers in check. Hope their deer herds recover! Actually saw a nice buck still chasing does.
Fun hunt. We used the elk camp tent. Cut wood on post and did it just like elk camp. Do it every Jan or Feb. Make them piggy's scream.
Shawn~
Is that the Okefenokee. We used to spend lots of time at Steven Foster St. Park near Fargo, GA.
Feral hogs are a scourge. I haven't had many opportunities to hunt hogs but it a an animal I'd like to hunt.
Now, back to the Tennessee Classic...a good place to practice for a fall elk hunt.
Can feel that spring weather around the bend.

Trying to get out from under this Tin to get some shooting in between the rain. Feb has been frog and duck weather.
Shawn~
That's part of your training for the Classic. I've spent many hours under the tin at Twin Oaks, some wet, some dry.
:archer2:
Yep Pat
Prolly put 20hrs a week under there either helping with projects or the fellas helpin with yer projects. Always into somethin!
Some times its road kill supper, sometimes its hanging moose horns or making 700 brats.
Just never know what'll come down the hill. Always a surprise.
The saying i always hear is "waste not, want not". I have come to appreciate this a great deal.
Shawn~
...and again I say...never a dull moment at Twin Oaks!
Good day to make bows. Got another huge rain coming in of the Gulf Of Mexico. Got a splice R & D that needs to get on Jig and get some wrinkles out.
Shawn~
We've had over 10" of rain in the last 5 or 6 days. Added to the 140" we had last year I should be ready for Twin Oaks come rain or shine. :bigsmyl:  As you know a little rain never stopped bow building or shooting at Twin Oaks. :archer: :archer2:
I here ya Pat. This morning I'm looking out my back by my garden. I think I could paddle over to my buddies just across the way.
Rain started yesterday late morning and it's been at it hard all night. I feel for them fellers up at Buck Holler for their Spring Fling.
Will go up tomorrow Sunday to access the damage and shoot when the sun pops out. Bring my Lacrosse knee boots though. I know Clarksville downtown went passed 30ft flood stage early last nite on the Cumberland.

TOBH puts on mighty good free feed on Sat night of the Tenn Classic shoot!! Like Christmas and Thanksgiving in one meal. Cost is free to all. Great folks and times at a pristine southern farm location.

Have a Hedge bow in the R & D form. Wonder how it took that kind of heat and bending?
Be ready for the Classic if it survived.

Don't forget about the March Open shoot at Twin Oaks 16 and 17 March either. A fantastic shoot for the early outdoor 3D season. Good warm up form the Tennessee Classic in May. Can see all the new happenings at Twin Oaks Bow Hunters Club.

Heading to a shoot at Twin Oaks this weekend.
Good shooting this weekend...and don't forget the pics. :archer2:
Was privileged to enjoy another splendid time the deluxe Twin Oaks bowhunters.
Weather was absolutely perfect....the course was stellar....the grand hospitality was uniquely genuine while camaraderie shared by meeting old friends and making new friends illuminated the whole event.
I was fortunate enough to share two forty target rounds with some excellent archers.
Am looking quite forward and with heightened anticipation to the TN Spring Classic.
Wish to extend to the fine group at Twin Oaks accepts my heart-felt gratitude.

Thanks for posting pics, Friend. Some beautiful woods around Twin Oaks and those guys definitely set up a great shoot. Looking forward to late April at Twin Oaks. :campfire: :archer2:
Friend -
It was great shooting with you Saturday. It was my first time at Twin Oaks and it's truly a beautiful place. Throw in the great weather we had with the awesome people, and it was perfect day.
- Jeremie
Jeremie, hope to see you at the Classic.
Thank you Jeremie....the pleasure was all mine.
175 participants for the weekend....will likely be more than three as many at the Twin Oaks Spring classic.
awesome crowd for a March shoot.
They will get over 1000 visit the Classic easy. How many guys shoot is hard to predict?
Either way its the biggest bow scraping extravaganza on surface of planet.
Dont miss it!

I have not been to Twin Oaks yet and would like to make the classic this year , I see that space for campers is limited and I have a few questions my camper is a large 5th wheel and is 8.5ft wide 13.6ft high Tenn law is 8ft wide is this right? should I just tent it ?
Tom, go to Twinoaksbowhunters.com. In the section for the Tenn. Classic is Pappy's contact info. Give him a call and he can give you any info regarding campers. I know with the larger ones he usually has them park at the head of the driveway to make it easy to get in and out.
Thanks Pat , I talked to Pappy and he took care of me and I am looking forward to this shoot might even try to get there early, how many here will be going and making a self bow?
I'll be helping folks build bows all weekend, probably most of the week before, under the bow building shed.
Planning to be shooting my new 19" Apex Stalker at the classic. She was in route me as of yesterday.
Seems like a pretty short bow, Friend. What's your draw length? :saywhat:
thinking you'll have a big group making selfbows. I would expect 35+.
Lots of fun and fellowship. With Matt, Greg, Anthony, Pat, and many more giving their mentorship. its like the best free selfbow tutorial that could be found in the World. That experience alone is worth more than money could ever buy!
Shawn~
Pat B....
The 19" Apex Stalker is a new ILF model that Mr. South Cox has recently started building.
Friend
I think you got a HedgeHunter 50@28" Twin Oaks built 66"er don't you?
Shawn~
more
Just about a month to go.
I'll be there! This will be my first time so I really don't know what to expect. Is there plenty of room to camp in a tent? I live about 80 miles south so I am debating camping or just making a day trip out of it.
Yes, be lots of tent canpers. Come early or you can drive up for day. There is a potluck meal sat nite for everyone there. Most guys camp for 2-3 days, some all week prior.
Shawn~
Half of the experience is camping there. :campfire:
35+ people making self bows that's a pile of yellow shavings! so when do people get there and start making a self bow ? in the past my bows have taken weeks not days to make.
Some folks get there the Friday or Saturday before. I try to get there early in the week but this year I might be a few days late.
A few years ago we had 30 something folks sign up for the Selfbow Challenge then on Friday 35 Boy Scouts(and a girl) showed up and signed up. By Sunday morning everyone had shooters and shot the competition with the other challengers. It was a real challenge but we did it.
Once the Selfbow Challenge is underway they have the full use of the bow building shop. After hours anyone can work in the shop.
Thanks Pat , I just retired and now I can take the extra time to make the Tennessee Classic just trying to decide when to get there, It is one of the shoots that I have heard so much about , I have only been to ETAR and Baltimore Traditional Classic and I can't wait for the Tennessee Classic and the selfbow challenge , can I bring a bow that is started or does it have to be a bark on stave?
Tom, after hours you will have access to the bow shop. Whether you can bring a partially built bow, you'll have to ask Pappy or maybe Shawn can answer.
It's getting close, Folks. Better start getting your plans and gear together. Only a few weeks to go.
Long as you have not started to string tiller yet. You can have it cut out and about floor tillered I reckon. I see guys buy Matts bows which are floor tillered and compete in the Selfbow challenge. Come early, when I say early I mean Thursday morning and guys will already be building.
Things are really looking nice at the farm now. Getting very green. We almost hit 80 yesterday. Wood piles are getting cut and moved around farm for camp fires. There is a new section over overhead (under tin) barn for vendors 40'x20'. Upper fields have been cut for campers. Some trees are starting to leaf out and the May Apples and Trilliums are all out on ground now.
On short and Final now.
Shawn~
The springtime woods at Twin Oaks are beautiful with wild flowers.
A quote this morning from Pappy...
"Folks will start showing up in about 3 more weeks and the shoot less than a month. Can't wait to see all my old friends and hopefully meet some new ones. ;)
Pappy"
The gang at Twin Oaks just finished up the addition to the venders shed this weekend. I think it is now 20'x40' with a skirted roof all around and this year a new and improved shower building instead of the army style tent we've used the last few years. The firewood stack is growing and remote piles placed around the camping area for anyone's use. Those guys are the hardest working group I've ever seen. Hardly a weekend goes by without a work crew of one sort or another.
Yes Pat
Guys come early now. Lots will come the weekend prior to the shoot and camp. There is a new hot showers for campers use. New vendor barn.
Shawn~
Shawn , where's the picture of the New shower Building. See ya soon.
Kurt
Shawn, make sure Joanie has me and my brother down for 2 XL T shirts also,Thanks.
Kurt
Kurt, I don't have pics of the new shower maybe Shawn will post one for you. You might look on their YouTube page or Twin Oak's website.
Only a few weeks to go til the Classic. :campfire:
I don't know anything about T Shirts but that Miss Joanie takes care of that. If you come early you'll get one.
If the weather report is good the week before shoot ya better come early! We have had some really really nice early spring weather here. was 83 yesterday. My garden is half in (taking a chance) and all my warm weather stuff is in starter trays. Fingers crossed. Had 25mph winds all day yesterday and then a short heavy rain last night. It is really greening up early this year.
The shower is done. Has plastic floor, H &C water, dressing side. As you know if you want to use it "the early bird gets the worm". The skin of it is the poplar vertical siding in Twin Oaks fashion. Its nice 10'x10' and done right.
Shawn~
Thanks for the picture of the shower Shawn, my brother and I are planning on being there Tuesday by Noon. Should be early enough for a T shirt LOL. Miss Joanie probably has us on her list from last year. See you ,Pappy and the rest of the Fella's soon. Getting a little antsy now.
Kurt
We been laying bark in the areas where folks walk on and off grass. Cant muddy when wet. Been working on some bows.
Got a building i need to frame out here in next few days. Hope to get it dryed in and off my mund soon.
My garden is in cept for warm weather stuff. I should be caught up for the big week of classic events and talking story with the fella's.
Shawn~
I think Miss Joanie usually shows up on Friday with the T shirts.
We'll be wrapping up a job we've been doing on St George Is Fl for 3 weeks on Tuesday. That will give me a few weeks :saywhat: to get my honey do list and other stuff done before heading to Twin Oaks. I can hardly wait!
The KY spring turkey season opened today. Once again, the woods was devoid of any gobbin or turkey talk. Possibly another rough season on the farm.
It should be quite difficult for an avid turkey hunter to wish away turkey season. However, the current dismal turkey population in my area, as experienced over the past four seasons, has reduced the raging fire to nearly an imperceptible smolder. Thank goodness for the TO's Spring Classic.
Bring it on!!!
At least you'll have a foam gobbler to shoot at Twin Oaks.
Hope for a dry May for hens to set Scott!
I have not have a chance to go. Have seen very few in fields and have not heard a gobble yet at the house! Seen plenty coyotes running. My friend over by exit four has been keeping the 6.5mm with him on the machine when spreading fert and Ready Round Up. Tell ya what it greened up in a hurry with those 80 degree days and some damp weather!! Dogwoods are at peak right now here.
Like to finish this HHB bow at Classic. Cut at Christmas 2017 with my son on a steep bluff. It was laying on its side after a 100ac had been logged out six yrs prior. Had a tree laying on it so it had a bunch of reflex grown in. Pretty hunk of lumber.
Shawn~
Yeah, let's get this weather behind us before the Classic although a little rain never put a damper on any Classics before. Can you say 14" in two days? :o
I haven't seen or heard many Turkeys around home here either, be going after them with a Bow this coming Friday and 5 days after. If nothin else I'll have to do like Pat sez and just go for the Foam at TO. LOL. See you guys soon.
Kurt
I'll be heading to Twin Oaks in about 2 weeks. :saywhat: After a 3 week away from home on a 173 hour job on
St. George Island, Fl. I'll have a bit over a week at home to get stuff done then...on the road again. 5.5 hours down I-40 to Twin Oaks. Boy do I need this! Almost a week of fun with about 1000 of my friends. The Tennessee Classic!
:campfire: :archer: :archer2:
:shaka:
Gonna be fun.

I can't wait to visit Nashville again, luv the music, then go to Pappy's, luv the people and place. So much fun!

We look forward to seeing the folks from Worldwide to the
Tennessee Classic.
Shawn~
Not long now folks. Start checking your equipment lists. Only a little over a week to go.
What's on your equipment list? Just some of mine bows and arrows, draw knife, files and other bow tools thrown in a box, stuff to make strings, it seems that I just keep loading the truck and camper with more stuff that sees no use. This is our first time at the Tennessee Classic and can't wait , Is there any thing that you don't want to forget
Tom, being ready to have a great time. Even if you've forgotten something someone will have it for you to use.
Eric, Shawn and I aren't trying to sell the Tenn. Classic. We are promoting it and since they eliminated a place to post trad shoot info and said to use PowWow for that info, that's what we've done.
Thanks Pat, I have heard a lot about this shoot from the Baltimore Bowmen and from the shooters at ETAR over the years and that this is one to make ! it looks like there is a great selection of osage and a great fellowship of people but I don't know if I can make a bow in a few days .
Go for it Tom, you won't find a more knowledgeable or helpful bunch of folk anywhere.
Eric before you mouth off.... Maybe you should inquire about more information...... Selling T shirts and raffle tickets is against the rules..... Warnings were made over and over..... But some folks just keep pushing..... You also have broken the rules many times trying to pawn your goods.... So it seems you guys are in the same boat.
Ya lost me Terry.

Nothing for you to worry about..... I'm just looking out for Tradgang..... Go have fun at the shoot.
Almost here fella's. These were some staves I busted about 4-5yrs ago. Tree was about 150yrs old and was sitting in Todd, KY right off the Trail of Tears.
Safe Travels all.

Awesome looking staves.
This premiere and splendid event is closing in quickly.
Nice looking staves, Shawn.
I'll be heading to Twin Oaks a week from tomorrow. Looking forward to a week with lots of friends.
Terry, why don't you join us at the Classic. I'd bet you'd enjoy getting away from work and herding cats. :saywhat:
Thank you Pat..... You are probably so right..... I would love to but I will be moving my daughters out of their dorms at college that weekend.
I remember those days. Make you wish you were there again?
Pat.... I attended college for about 15 minutes..... It wasn't for me.
They both are on huge scholarships doing what they love.....
Got a limb bow I may work on. Think its 67". May saw the profile out sometime this week see if it ready for making a bow?
Weather is getting warm now. Wont be long now!

6 more days for me.
My brother and I are thinking about heading that way Sunday afternoon.

Have been thinking about attending.
Been thinking about it every day for the past few months.
Pappy said this morning that folks have already started showing up. More this weekend. I'll be heading out on Tuesday.
You won't regret it Friend.
Yep
The WI boys came in last nite.
Looks like I'm in the SBC again with this stave I call Pocket Lint. Made a glue on handle for it yesterday. Will cut profile today or tomorrow. Plenty Pin knots on "Pocket Lint"

Shawn, will you post pics from Twin Oaks. Need to prime the pumps before I leave on Tuesday morning.
I can. They were taking photo's some last nite. I did not, but they were cutting and scraping wood already to 2230hrs. I left and they were still out there.
I got to build stairs on my new building today. I may go down later today Greg with my camera.
Shawn~
Closing in quickly...
Day 1 was just simply amazing.
Amicable weather, great course, unmatched camaraderie and the splendor hospitality of the Twin Oaks family.
I always feel that I am strategically setup in the bedroom of the buck of dream's.
Well, another Tenn. Classic has come and gone. Had a great time, the weather held out for us mostly with only enough rain to make the trails slick Sunday morning the only time I had to go out. Lots of wood bows built, some from repeat offenders and quite a few from newbies. The building was scattered over the week so it was never too crowded in the bow shop.
I'll post a few pics as soon as I can.
I think Pappy said they had a record amount of shooters, 609 or something like that. :archer2:
Great weather for 1st week of May here in central Tenn.
Yep, Classic is a week ling Rendezvous now than a weekend shoot.
Was under the Bow tin from Monday til Thurs. lots of super bows built this year. Really nice bows!
Always a good time at the Tenn Classic.
