Opening day of gun season here in Ohio.
Even though it's been a rough year, I decided to tough it out and stick with the longbow. First deer of the season and first deer with the new bow. Still after a buck, but she will fill the freezer nicely.
Bow is a 54" hybrid made by yours truly. Easton carbon arrow with 250gr VPA up front.

Congrats, Brad..
Awesome congratulations
Nice doe
Be careful, BVAS. One year I decided to stay with the bow "for a while" when gun season opened. That was 24 years ago! I have not taken a rifle into the woods since.
Thanks guys.
I hunt private land, so the hunting isn't terribly hard, but the deer are a little more skittish and move with intention. No slow meandering in the woods. I haven't deer hunted with a gun in about 5or 6yrs, and this is my 4th year of trad only. Normally if I kill my buck the first half of season, I wont even hunt gun week and save my doe tags for late season hunting in the snow. But this year I have had very few close encounters, so it was time to get some meat.
Should also mention, that is my youngest daughter Avery in the pic. She hunts, but cant pull legal weight with her trad bow so wont share her stories here. But she loves going out any chance she can on a tracking job
Very nice , Congrats sir...

Great experience. I do hope you guys were wearing orange even on private land during gun season where you think you are the only hunters. I have had trespassers sneak in on my area on private land. Some people will shoot at anything. Hope you continue to enjoy success.
Very nice! I bet it would be cool to get a deer with a bow you made.

Yes we were. I shot her just before the end of legal shooting time. Decided to leave her for several hours after the shot, as I was unsure of the hard quartering away angle. It was well after dark when we went with flashlights to recover.

Yes it is!!!
This is the second doe that I've taken with a bow I made. Still trying for a buck
If you're considering building your own, start lurking on the Bowyers Bench. Great bunch of guys with a ton of knowledge. The majority of my bow making knowledge came from there.
Sweet congrats!
