Title: FHRC
Post by: Crooked Stic on November 17, 2018, 08:40:56 PM
Okay gonna quite hoggin Kennys  thread. And hope this thing works out. Us retired guys need something to do  :biglaugh: Anyhow this limb is real close to another design I got with some tweaks. Moved the string grooves further up the hook and gonna try the super lam on the first one. Took a swag at the stack. WE will see. Maybe get one glued Mon.

I like your idea of the working curve watching this one with great interest , are you going to use the standard supper lam & .001 taper total ?

Post by: Crooked Stic on November 18, 2018, 06:46:41 AM
Mine has .001 taper. Does standard have no taper?

Superlam is a .001 taper plus wedges....

I should have said is the supper lam your only taper in the stack ,I just meant I didn't know if you decided on no taper or .001

Did the dry run today and got one under pressure right now. I used zip ties to hold everything in place. Got about half pressure and cut and pulled the ties. Things stayed put well. We will see tomorrow. Dont know about the stack. rather it be 40 than 60  :scared:

I like that riser hold down.
I think I'm gonna incorporate that into my band forms instead of clamps.

Got it cleaned up and blanked out. Got lucky the tiller with the blocks is even. Maybe make 30@28. Yeah Roy was hopin for 40 or 45. Front overlays curing now. The brace in the pics is a little over 8 in. dont think it will need that much.

Back it with sinew.

That will bump up the weight.

Good one Roy. I guess looking at the pics you can see where the power lam part of the taper ends pretty good. Gonna be interesting to see how this one shoots. May just be feathers up in smoke---then I wont need the sinew   :dunno:

Got a string on it this morning. Lookin like finish at around 34@28. With my 26 in. full draw and the ligtest arrows (about 12 gpp. ) seems zippy.

I like the look of that bow what stack did you start with ? How's it look at full draw ?
Title: Re: FHRC
Post by: Crooked Stic on November 23, 2018, 05:13:17 PM
.230 Cube root and B janson says I need.248.5 to get 46 lbs. I will get full draw pics. I have to remove a bit on one tip. Hoping that will take care of the vibration. I would say the tips are semi-static.

What brace height are you using ?  I know when I made the first 64 in FHLB with all that reflex it was touchy tell I found right brace height, I relies different bows but cousins...lol
Title: Re: FHRC
Post by: Crooked Stic on November 23, 2018, 10:15:26 PM
It is 8 right now. I think there is enough extra weight on the one tip taper that its heavier. May have something to do with the vibration. The limbs a very vertical stable (not floppy)

You can see where it starts to bend right out of the powerlam like the FHLB maybe a good thing acting like a shorter bow the bends look like there working for the profile how does it feel shooting now with the tips cleaned up ? Mike was that the stock supperlam in that one ?

Thanks Roy. Yeah Forwardhandle. It pretty quick and points good. Hoping the higher draw weight and denser wood may take care of most of the vibration. It is nothing that you cant live with anyhow.

I got the second one out. Did not change anything except about 10 lbs heavier and a heavier riser. Neither helped the vibration. Can crank the brace up to 8.5 and that puts a good dent in it. anyhow gonna get a couple more longbows done then re visit this one.

To bad about the vibration its a good looking bow !
Title: Re: FHRC

With those big hooks and the forward handle, 8.5" brace sounds reasonable to me. Does it not perform well braced that high?
Title: Re: FHRC
Post by: Crooked Stic on December 20, 2018, 10:48:55 AM
Seems to be pretty peppy yes. Although a lower brace would be better. Thinking about 18 in. riser and PL 3.5 past that and a longer tip wedge to shorten the working limb and get more preload.

Post by: Forwardhandle on December 20, 2018, 11:22:35 AM
I agree 8.5 " or even 9" brace for a recurve doesn't sound excessive for a recurve my Black Widdow recurve braces at 9" maybe see how it shoots at 9" ?

Went as far as 8 3/4 and not changing any past 8 1/4. Nothing I cant live with but need to get it tweaked out

Hey Mike , where did you start limb side taper on this one?
Title: Re: FHRC
Post by: Crooked Stic on January 23, 2019, 02:39:02 PM
I start mine 10 in. from the string groove. By the time all said and done tillered etc ends up probly 12 in. back. Tapered back from 5/8 on the very tips. Most times when you get your blank put a center line on the belly before tapering and that is where your belly groove will be. If tillering blocks on the blank show a different dynamic center then you have to adjust.

Thanks ! I think mine was keeping too much hook, piked to 58" and it's a whole different animal!
