Hey all -
title pretty much says it... I've never owned a leafy or ghillie suit of any kind, but I find myself on the ground more & more as I age and like to wander. That said, I'd be interested in everyone's recommendations for leafy jacket (not thinkin' pants at this point) that I can pack & wear in any weather. Considerations would be:
- Light weight. Something I can pack easily and just wear over anything without adding bulk or insulation. I like the concept of mesh...
- Made with bowhunting in mind. Not looking to buy a jacket that I have to cut up a bunch to make it clear my string, etc.
- Good quality / durability. Really don't want to look for new jackets every year.
- A hood (?). Thinking a hood is a good idea if a deer slips in from behind...
- Economical. Not looking to invest a ton of money in something I haven't tried... not looking for a cheapy, but something that is a fair value and won't break my meager bank.
Anyway, appreciate any recommendations those of you with experience can provide!

I've got a mesh leafy jacket and pants I got from Cabela's years ago that's been great. Very lite weight. Early season I actually wear it over shorts and t-shirt. I don't like hoods for the most part. I've got mesh leafy boonie hat I wear early season that works well.
First Lite leafy jacket is good for me. If you wear an arm guard you shouldn't have to trim it much if any. They also have a head cover balaclava type thing. I like the ASAT suit too, but don't see the need for the pants, and you cant buy it separate.

Hard to beat an ASAT leafy suit for convenience and effectiveness.
I can recommend the Rancho Safari ultrilight. It is basically a vest and also has a hood. Very easy to pack, not hot, and does not catch on your string. You will have to call them to order.
Look at the Kill Suit at allpredatorcalls.They have some made with mesh and the price is right :archer2:
Shannon Bugtamer Plus leafy jacket. Leafy stuff on the pants seems to get hooked up too often to briars etc. So you may want to think about that before you buy.
I would just use the regular bugtamer plus pants and the leafy jacket.

Buy it large enough to get a fishnet long sleeve undershirt and a lamilite liner vest underneath and you should be good for even some cooler mornings...
ASAT Vanish Suit. Comes with a hood. Light, quiet, and breathes great for early season. IMO it's been much more effective than traditional camo leafy suits.
I'll third the ASAT 3-D leafy wear. I have had jacket, pants and head cover for ten years and love it. Use it for chasing gobblers in the spring and whitetails on the ground in the fall here in Iowa. It goes over anything, super lightweight and packable. Turkeys and deer look right through you.
