First what style 1 piece are you looking for. There Are so many choices from 50's style to short forward handles like the javaman helms deep to bigger more stable riser options like the super kodiak. Personally myself I really enjoy the 50's style and loved my great northern shadow, sadly they recently dropped the recurve from their lineup though.

Chad Holm's River Runner recurves are great,  The grip on his '59 model fits me well.  These bows perform with the best of them.

Some good ones mentioned but I'll add the Toelke Chinook.  Awsome bow and soooo quiet!

Some great choices. I like Big Jim and Bob Lees's selections.  There are some very good Bowyers here on this sight. Be sure and check them out. It really boils down to which your like the best. Enjoy the hunt. >>>----> Ken

After deer season there will be a lot of shoots coming up Across the Nation. See if you can go visit a few of those shoots and test shoot some of the bows that are offered. That's probably the best way to really choose one that fits you. I could recommend dozens of bows but only you will know which ones are right for you.

Bear Archery still makes a 1 piece phenolic Super Kodiak, as well as their 1 piece '59 model.

what Terry said. If shooting first is not an option, Toelke Chinook is flat out awesome, another great shooting favorite is a Kota Killum.

For the money my vote goes to Great Plains.  It has every feature i like in a bow. Good grip, pointability, quiet and smooth.

I think the Fox Maverick is very nice. I owned for a time.  I loved the grip. It is just barely under $1,000 at $925.

I went to a couple of the shoots back in 2009 and 2010 when I was looking to decide what bow to buy.  As others have said, they are great places to try several.  There are even some exhibitors that have used ones of various models.   I did buy a Fox as a result of those visits but it was a TD, High Sierra.

I have to report though, those trips didn't save me any money. Over the next few years I "had" to buy, to try several.  I also think that Super K mentioned above is a beaut!

If you find something you are interested in the classifieds here on the gang are a terrific place to buy and sell. Safe honest deals. You'll need to invest a bit for access to the classifieds but you can save hundreds by spending a few bucks for access.

Oh, and I would have been shocked if your BW comment raised any eye brows here. Elsewhere for sure, but folks are civil here and recognize there are many different tastes and enough variety for anyone.

There are some highly thought of already mentioned but I have owned a Toelke Chinook and have shot a couple of Super Statics at Dan's. I believe you will find none better and as already and so often mentioned besides being fast and beautiful, they are quiet, quiet, quiet.

If you want a plain hunting bow, Holm-Made by Chad Holm. His River Runner is one of the best. If you want something really pretty with great performance Holm-Made by Chad Holm. His choice of woods is always spot on and the fit and finish is excellent. As you can tell I am a Huge Fan........

See how easy that was?  :saywhat:  There are literally dozens and dozens--maybe more--of great bows out there.  Everyone has their favorites--at least for the moment.  Next week it may be another.  The best thing is to attend a rendezvous or trad shoot where a lot of bowyers have their wares available to try out.  What one person may love may not work at all for you.  That's why there are so many bows in the classifieds that at one time were "the greatest bow I have ever owned."  Of course part of the joy of this life style is trying out a lot of different gear.  May not be best for our shooting but sure is fun.
