This morning was cool and drizzly. I was feeling pretty sure the deer would be moving today. By first shooting light, the deer were definitely around. There was some chasing in the distance for most of the morning. About 7am I had a doe come in acting a little funny. Sure enough a nice buck was tending.
Now, I'm used to hunting public land, on the ground with the longbow. I usually take what comes along as far as shot opportunity. Today I was on private land and I know that there are some nice bucks around.
I have to say, it was hard to make the descision to pass this guy, but I know there is better available. So I shot it with my phone camera. I actually caught my self wondering how I could do it? It felt good though, for the first time that I made a choice like this. I only have a few days left, but I'm going the distance so to speak.
Wow! Jerry that's Pope & young In PA standards, enjoy!
Alvey, maybe on public land. There are many great bucks in PA when you get away from the pressure. I'll probably pay for passing. Hope all of your hunts are blessed.
Wow. That's fantabulous! I know you just returned to the site after being away for a while. Looks like things are going well for you. I have not done much in the way of hunting in NJ for about 5 years now. That is because I only have public land and things have gotten so out of control that it is more frustrating than fun anymore. This summer I had shoulder surgery so I haven't hunted at all. I also have gotten into fly fishing and since NJ has only four really good trout streams you can only imagine how crowded they get. Long story short. I bought a Pennsylvania fishing license this year and had a much better experience. I started wondering about PA Public land bow hunting. If it's even slightly better than Jersey it would be worth it. (In Jersey I see more hunters than deer). How about those deer focus areas. Are they worth checking out. I am willing to climb a mountain to take a doe. Anything to get away from the more people than deer scenario. Thanks Bruce
Were Moving?????
They still are !!!....Just like yesterday, the biggest buck I saw was at 1:26
Beautiful buck
Congrats Jerry, good luck
An awesome time to be in the woods
:archer2:
WOW Jerry!....you passed on this guy???...you are a better man that I, sir lol. That's an impressive whitetail. Good luck the rest of the way.
Awesome there must be some giants where you are hunting to pass one like that. I know what you mean though. I was given a tour of a ranch. I told my host, I don't think I would ever shoot a buck here. He was stunned as he knew the ranch was exceptional. I said I would always be holding out looking for one better. I never would be able to make a decision. That is a big difference from public land where you might only see one or two bucks in the whole season. Never got that invite though. >>>----> Ken
Yes Terry, they are still moving plenty.
Sorry. Just remembered you gave me some advice a few years ago and I never followed through. That was a tough year was taking care of two elderly in-laws. They both died within months of each other. Then I lost and aunt and my father all within four months. I will hopefully be able to check out PA public for next year
Bowzonly, shot me a pm and remind me of what I told you. I would be interested in taking up the conversation. Sorry to hear about the losses of family.
That is a really nice buck, I hope your patience is rewarded.
Wow! He is a nice one. I hope you get one of those better bucks so we can see what they look like!
Good luck!
