Had a pretty decent evening last night. I took my daughter with me in the morning trying to get her a deer, Seeing several bucks but nothing close enough for a shot. Lots of rutting action though. She had to go back to her college home so she was unable to hunt the evening with me. After seeing all the rutting action earlier I decided to set a ridge crossing stand that has produced in the past. At about 4:00 I heard a buck grunting in the hollow below me, but nothing materialized. 4:45 a doe and a yearling feed up over the hill and come right under my stand. Making a rookie mistake I left my bow hanging on the hook :knothead: and I hear crunch, crunch , crunch coming out the ridge towards me. The cadence told me what it was before I saw it. Luckily the does focused on him allowing me to pick my bow off the hook. The big doe was standing right in the middle of an old road but the buck acted as if he never saw her. He rolled up over the low gap and made a scrape after making the scrape he stood there a bit but the younger doe started walking up my way and got his attention. He stared for a while with a look like where the hell did you come from. He then started walking towards the does right down death row. As he closed the distance he started running so I gave him a loud BAH stopping him at about 10 yards. I was on auto pilot and don't think I even came to full draw but buried one down through him, but I could see at least a foot of arrow sticking out of him as he trotted away. He went about 40-50 yards and stopped to look back over his shoulder and his rear end gave out. Maybe 5 seconds total and he was done in sight. The VPA 200 did it's job getting both lungs and the aorta. My daughter said I was holding out on her. He's isn't my biggest, but I'll happily take one like this every year. [attachment=1,msg2829502]
