So I ripped a hole in my uninsulated rubber boots yesterday. They were Bass Pro shop brand, they were uninsulated but made with neoprene uppers and were somewhat warm. I have a pair of insulated Muck brand boots that I like but don't see anything from them that will fill the niche I'm looking to fill. What's a good pair that won't break the bank? Wanting something that isn't neoprene uppers I think.
Not an "all the time rubber boot" guy, but I wear mucks alot working around the home place and with the cattle. Other than the black "arctic chore" ones they are really not very tough, very easy to tear up.
I went to Newfoundland moose hunting this fall, and did a lot of research on uninsulated rubber boots before going. Ended up with lacrosse burleys, I bought the uninsulated ones with black stippled/studded soles, bout 100 bucks from amazon. Put 6-10 miles a day on them in bogs and heavy brush, good to walk in (well as good as possible for heavy boots) and no issues with wear or blisters. The guides there talk a lot about boots, they wear out a pair or two a year of gum boots guiding, and said these are as good as any other, for them choice ended up about individual fit. Saw lacrosse and sportchief rubber boots a lot. No one I talked with there were fans of mucks... tear too easy and not well fitted were the two main complaints.

For warm weather I like the old LL Bean hunting boot. Leather uppers and rubber bottoms. I've had mine 20 years and had them put new rubber bottoms on them. They aren't water proof any more so if ya have to cross the river jump fast.

I use the Lacrosse Mudlite snake boots .
They are comfortable and have held up pretty good so far.
I have worn both LaCrosse and LL Bean boots for years but recently got a pair of Xtra Tuffs (inspired by a trip to Alaska last year where everybody wears them all the time) and I like them a lot. Not too heavy, and GREAT grip, which is a failing of the LL Bean sole IMHO. I add a "L'il Hottie" insole and heavy socks and they are good to go in the cold as well.

Thanks for replies, I went with the Lacrosse 4xBurly. Hopefully I like them and they last. I looked at the Lacrosse Grange but I decided a little bit of insulation might help, our early season here in Colorado sees some pretty big temp swings, day will start out upper 20's and be 70 by afternoon or snow all day can't ever tell.

I have thought about the Xtra tuff boots for the occasional cold weather snaps we have down here.
They must keep your feet warm if they use them in Alaska?

I have the Grange. Under $40 on eBay. I really like them for warm weather however, I have the following issue with them. There is not enough support in the sole for climbing tree steps or sticks or really rocky terrain. Otherwise, I am very pleased with them.
LL Bean hunting boot, but muck boots are a close second.
I have a pair of Chinook brand rubber boots and have been happy with them.American made, durable and about 50 bucks.
I have a pair of Lacrosse Grange that are probably older than most folks on this site. I've heard the quality isn't what is was 40 years ago, but mine are still going strong. I can't say. IfI ever have to replace mine, I'll let you know. I had some extreme cold Muck Artic Pro's, but they were not snug around the ankle area and were prone to wear at the back of my heels. The non-insulated models may be better, but like I said, I don't need any yet.
Like "Bisch" my Muck Fieldblazers have worked well for me for several years in Texas and Oklahoma. You can catch them on sale at Cabela's for $99.99 occasionally. I can walk all day in mine, and I have, without problems. Most comfortable rubber boot I've worn. :campfire:
I have Bogs and I can walk all day in them even when I hunted in the Bad Lands but they do have neoprene . They were just under a hundred bucks .
