So I am wanting to go back to the longbow, been shooting a recurve for a few years. But just not feeling the recurve anymore, a 1964 Bear Grizzly.
So I have been looking at the Striker Classic at 60".
Any other brands that you would recommend in the 60"+ realm. Looking to shoot right around 53#-57#.
Thank you in advance.
Not sure what your budget is but my one piece bows are comparable in price to the striker. Would be glad to talk Bows with you !
I'd suggest the used market and then your options are endless. You can get a lot of bow for the price of that new Striker.
If you want to buy new though, there are plenty out there that are worth a look. In my opinion and based on my personal experiences, there are a few exceptional values that you'd be hard-pressed to beat. Treadway Longbows, JK Traditions Kanati, and Holm-made bows.
If you want a couple of super budget friendly options, check out Rich Emery's Stikbow and the Bodnik Slick Stick.
Maddog Prairie Predator. I have one and can recommend it. It is made to your specs. Finish is "ok", while performance is up there with any other bow I own. I had a high grip requested on mine.
Never had one, but 7Lakes gets good reviews, and its even cheaper if you get the unfinished blanks and do the finish work yourself.
Bodnik Slick Stick.
You'll get a suggestion on everybody's favorite, Randy (Crittergetter) has reach out to you and whether you end up dealing with him or not, he is a top of the line guy and it would be a great opportunity to soak up some of what he knows to help you out.
New Woods, great bows at a great price.
That ain't a budget in my book, lol.
I would consider Dan of montana bows with his whips & even bows by Belcher archery. Ed Boyd is also a standup guy.
The best regarded budget bow would be the u-finish blanks by Binghams and I believe belcher archery also offers such kits.
NEWWOOD :clapper:
I think the best one piece longbow for the money right now is the Big Stick Archery Assassin. I think it's pretty tough to find a better custom one piece longbow for a better price.
Omega Original.
I just ordered an unfinished one for $315.00, these bows have great reviews.
Watch Jason's FB page you can get a new Kanati for a good price.
If you have the tools and the time, consider making your own. Lots of good help on the Bowyer's Bench -- far better bowyers than I'll ever be.
Another good option on a tight budget would be the Bear Montana.I got one years ago and totally overhauled the tips grip and shelf and put an sbdstring on her with a beaver tail grip, shoots as good as anything out there.
You are getting lots of good advice here. I have many longbows in stock and would be happy to talk with you.
Our LifeCycle Allegheny, made by Omega Longbows, is a GREAT shooting bow at an economical price.

That's a pretty good budget to work with... I am more of a recurve guy, but I really like Dwyer longbows and Treadway longbows. Solid people to work with.
The used bows here on Tradgang are a great buy...I also have and Old Mountain archery Edge that I got for new about $160 and it shoots great!
