Good luck to all as our season takes off. I'm pretty dialed in and quite confident. Feels good. I'll be in my stand the 1st shooting my N.M. Whisper and Douglas fir shafts tipped with 145gn. Stos. I have a sneaking suspicion I'll need to fire up the Thermacell for a while longer.
Good Luck!!
Good luck everybody. It'll be a couple weeks before I can get out but hearing good things on one property. Trying to gain access to a larger piece of land closer to home but won't know more til mid week. Remember to climb safe.

God luck to all, shoot straight and be safe climbing into and out of stands. Sounds like a warm and damp to start, but that just means the best is yet to come. Be sure to post your pics, and stories!!! :archer2: :campfire: :archer2: :campfire:
Jason
Good luck everyone! Can't wait to get going. Unfortunately due to exams I won't be able to make it out for the first week but after that I hope to make it out over the weekend. I've been going out scouting and stumping every Saturday and I'm feeling pretty good about my shooting right now.
I'm going to kill him at 7:43 a.m. Monday morning, with my NM Ramer :biglaugh:
Good luck Mitten guys! Opening day of michigan bow season is a holiday for me! I have a tradition we've I take off work hunt the morning abed evening and shoot and mess with bows midday. Us trad hunters can get excited about early season because we aren't always focused on one big buck. All my compound buddies barely hunt early season and don't start getting serious until rut. I'm excited to put a fat Michigan doe on the ground in early season! :shaka:

hoping to see this guy, only one I've had on camera so far.
Just pulled mine today. Think I may have found a good spot. Fingers crossed!
Just gotta get them coming through in the daylight. (Camera date and time are way off)

I hope all my fellow MI traditional bowhunters have a safe and prosperous season. LOTS of acorns on the ground in the north woods right now.
Good luck everyone and be safe. I will be out near my home in the NWL . White acorns are raining down best I have seen in awhile.
but the weather grinch has it raining the first couple of days in my area.
Yep, mine too, Jon. I'll be at camp drinking coffee by the wood stove waiting for a break in the weather. Heading up tonight to get organized and get the chili going. Been shooting well, probably end up sharpening my heads for the 10th time. Good luck and stay safe everyone! :campfire: :archer2:
deer are moving well with this cold weather. Hope the skeeters disappear...
Good luck everyone I will be in the woods tomorrow evening
Good luck to all and safe hunting!
Checked cameras this past weekend and saw plenty of deer at the in-laws farm. Should be just a matter of time, hopefully. Be the first year hunting this property and so far, looking good!
Well I'm sure I'm not the only one rained out this morning....

Yeah, it's been a cold wet morning here... glad I didn't take a sick day today!
Woke up at 4:30 saw it was raining, back to bed.
Good luck fellas. Be safe and shoot straight!!
Weather is great up here. Cold and overcast. It sure is tempting!
Got rained on but got rained out! Very wet morning bit saw some deer and turkeys
Got out last evening and saw a small 8 and 8 does. The buck was munching acorns all around my stand then wandered off. Started sprinkling so I snuck around til dark and almost stepped on 2 of the does, they were bedded where they had to have seen me walk in to my stand, unless they came in after. No shots but good times. Can't wait for the weekend, although they're calling for rain.
I stuck it out all day, with a little break in the middle. It was pretty wet until noon. No deer.
I had a spike and a forkhorn under my tree last night. This spot was too far away from the truck for small deer....if I'm going to have a heart attack hauling a deer, it's going to be a whopper! :archer2:
I checked my camera and one of the target bucks was there at 7:45 am. He's been coming through a few minutes later every day. Hopefully he keeps the pattern up and I can intercept him some morning. Been really windy up here the past few days. Dad's up visiting so we're going to go do a little shining tonight to see what we come across. Good luck guys!
All I'm killing is mosquitoes!!! Wow. Thank God for my Thermacell.
Snowed here until about 9:30 today. Low 40's right now. Hoping to get out tomorrow afternoon.
I got her tonight

Well here's to hoping the weather cooperates this weekend. Forecast looks promising for Saturday morning movement. I hear they're finally saying some frost around SW Michigan. Good luck to all who get out.

Ha...14 consecutive days of rain here so far....not sure when its gonna ease up
Looking forward to tomorrow evening when I get to head back to camp until Tuesday. Monday may be a little wet, but I need some woods time. Should be decent movement with the cold weather.
I have sat 8 times since October 1st. The farmer is cutting corn, so it has either been feast or famine. Thursday night I sat in one of my slam dunk spots. I ALWAYS see at least small bucks here.....it is littered with rubs, all up and down this corridor of brush between swamp and crop fields. NOTHING.
Friday night, I sat in a spot 60 yards from there...usually not as good but productive. When I climbed in, I saw a 4 point bedded 40 yards away. He watched me climb in, get settled, and never spooked. He stayed there all evening, and was joined by his pals. At one point, I had 4 bucks and 6 does playing grab a$$ within 40 yards of me. I am not terribly choosy....but we have a whopper of a buck hanging around (my son missed him a week ago), so I held off. Some deep grunting in the swamp, and the reaction of the smaller bucks, told me SOMETHING bigger was near. But no luck.
Yesterday, between Danny and I we saw 3 does.
They are out there, but it sure aint a grocery store. Some pics for the first part of the season;
We got about 2 inches of fresh snow this morning so I went out this evening hoping that the snow would get the deer moving. I didn't see a single track. However, I still had plenty of excitement.
I was sitting by an old 2 track that borders a swamp and hardwoods. I was about 30 yards from the two track on the hardwoods side since the deer have been using an old logging road that cut up one of the valleys. As I was sitting there, I saw a shape move between some cedars. Although I've never seen one, I knew instantly what it was based on the way it was moving. A second shape drifting through confirmed it. A few seconds later a huge gray wolf trotted up onto the two track, followed by a smaller black wolf. I couldn't believe it! They both trotted down the road until they hit my trail where I walked in. Both of their noses went to the ground, then they both just stared in the direction that I had gone. They never saw me since I had circled around a bit, but it was kind of eerie just watching them, especially when the smaller one took a few steps following my tracks. They both turned though and kept trotting down the road out of sight. After they were gone I went and took some pictures of the tracks, which were huge! An awesome sunset capped off an exciting evening. No deer, but it was an awesome hunt!
Unfortunately every time I try and upload the pictures something crashes. Not sure why. I hate computers. :banghead:
Finally figured out how to use my game cameras and all my bucks seem to me in the 2300-0500 time frame for showing up..Hopefully the rut will kick in with the cooler weather and shorter days coming...
Any sign of chasing yet guys? I've seen a few bucks coming by after some does have past but they don't seem to be worked up yet. It has to be close. At least in my neck of the woods.
Been a crazy few weeks at work so I haven't been out. Excited to get out tomorrow night! Hoping to catch some rut activity!
I saw a buck chasing a doe on Halloween while out shining but haven't seen any confirmed chasing while hunting. Last weekend I saw a buck running with a doe, but they split up so I don't know what was going on. Tonight I saw two does and two fawns but no bucks.
Yea I think it may be a tad early but it should be cranking pretty quick.
Bucks are chasing the does behind my house but they are small ones. Showing up at all times of the day on my camera just cruising. Heard grunting all evening in the brush but even with 6 does in front of me he wouldn't show himself...Supposedly a couple good ones around my neighbor has been seeing..Up north seeing lots of sign but not much on my cameras. The one buck I saw was a mule deer looking 4 point that was all business with his head in the air just sniffing
I had one of those moments we probably have all had at 8:10 this morning. A lone 4pt. suddenly appeared out of nowhere heading in my direction. I was so ready. Standing with bow at the ready. He kept coming and coming and at 10yds. came back to anchor and purposely aimed low just knowing he would drop at the shot. You guessed it. He didn't react until my arrow sailed below him and hit the dirt. Ugh. You just never know what a whitetail will do. Sure makes it interesting. Last year I had two misses right over the deer's back before I connected so I was determined to aim low. There you have it. I am thankful it was a clean miss.
