Another archery deer season has gone by and I've failed to find anything to shoot at. The rifle season is coming up and I'll get out a couple times for a last-ditch effort in October.
So my wife is encouraging me to go find a pig ranch somewhere and make some meat. I may give the local archery shop another chance but they have had some difficulty getting a small group together to do a hunt.
Would anybody recommend a pig ranch somewhere near Central CA, say north of Santa Barbara but south of the SF bay area? Looking for something semi-guided and somewhat rustic. I'm not looking for a trophy -- just a meat pig and a good time chasing them.
Looking for something in November or early December. Any CA folks with some good experiences out there that they'd be willing to share?
In central CA you should look at Parkfield, Ca. That is probably dead center and is known as an area for pig hunting. Pay attention to the size of the ranch though since a lot of those ranches are small and may not really "hold" many hogs on their property, the hogs may be coming from adjacent larger ranches. Rifle and archery allowed down there from what I have been told. In the central valley try looking up a youtube page called "the community show", this guy manages hog hunts on a series of ranches that appear to hold a good number of hogs. Appears to be all bowhunting but that should work for you. Good luck
Cajon Ranch used to be the destination. Been some time since being there. May I suggest the CBH website. The ranches used to advertise there and still may.
