Title: Ringing Rocks Archery
Post by: Dorado on August 22, 2018, 05:14:26 PM
Hello camp!
Been a while but I'm trying to get back. Had a set of surgeries and life got in the way. But I'm back at it.
Been wanting an English longbow for a while. I know that they're long and not as efficient as modern glass bows, but I like them. I had one a long time ago that I loved.
Anyways, I can't afford a finished ELB. I never see them for sale used either. So I was looking at the "you finish" bows by Ringing Rock Archery. They're affordable on my budget and look good. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with them. Good? Bad? Meh?
I know that hickory swells and absorbs water easily, but I can seal it up.

Just seal hickory like you would any other wood bow. When not in use keep in in the a/c in your house. I used a 4" PVC pipe with a screw cap and added uncooked rice in it to store our sinew backed and self bows when I hunted Colorado in '06 ans '10. We were camped along a creek in a deep ravine and in the shade and had rain every afternoon. Our bows didn't loose a pound of draw weight.
Not familiar with Ringing Rock Archery's wood bows.

Just may have to. I'll take Pat B's advice on it and keep in inside when not in use.

Most bow woods do best at 9% to 11% m/c but hickory shines at 6%. Any other bow wood will blow at 6%.

Hey that's good to know. I can borrow  moisture meter and check it before I seal it. I know someone that has one.
