Title: Bow holder for tree stand
Post by: Boognish on July 11, 2018, 06:55:11 AM
What's a good option for a bow holder that attaches to a tree stand? I've got a lone wolf hang on

I use the third hand on my lonewolf.  I actually climb w my bow in it.  Great piece of equipment.

I was not sure if trad guys use these bc I was afraid my bow could easily come off if accidentally bumped into it. I've never tested one though. I held my bow all last year and decided I wasn't going to do that this year. Has it ever caused any issues?

They don't show a decent picture of it on the website so it's a bit difficult to see how it might work for a trad bow.  However, if I understand it correctly, it needs to be fastened on the right side of the stand (I'm assuming to the base of the stand with a longbow or recurve) because the bracket only allows the bow limb to be removed to the right.  That means a right handed shooter has to release the bow with the right hand, then switch the bow into the left hand to draw and shoot. A lot of movement.

Wouldn't work to mount it to the left side base of the stand if one also uses a bow quiver because there wouldn't be space for the arrows between the bow and side of the stand base.  Too, I can't see how it will hold onto a bow if the hunter accidentally bumps it.

I just hang mine on a limb or screw in hanger on the tree.

I always hold mine.  Never know when a deer will appear and I want to be ready.

I'm with Ranger 3.  Don't see any need to get fancy.

I don't hang mine, just slide the longbow down in my rubber boot where it is just right to pick up whether standing or sitting.

I like the little screw in hangers also - use them for all sorts of stuff- quiver, binos, even mini coffee thermos

I shoot lefthanded and have my third hand fastened to the right side of my seat section of lw.  It is very secure and i even climb with the bow in it.  I do remove my bow quiver once in the stand for other reasons so the quiver is not an issue.  I use the boot trick to when in other stands.

I just hang mine on a limb or screw in hanger on the tree.

I'll add that as I trim out for a shooting window, I purposely will cut a branch on both left & right sides to accomodate hanging my Bow.

I've used the little screw-in bow-holders for years.  Last year I tried the "in the knee boot " trick like Kenny suggested and it works great.  I've also searched for a stand attached bow holder that I like but haven't been impressed enough to switch from what I know will work.

I use a version like the one Summit sells this type has been around a long time and I like it fine. Probably the type Orion mentioned.

I'm with Kennym, I just stick my longbow in my boot...stable, easy access..!!

I have the third hand, just didn't trust it with my narrow limbed longbows, I think with a recurve it might be better, I tell you though, had I been able to use it, I might have some venison in the freezer, last sit I made, bow still on the ground and I'm trying to screw a bow holder with a blunt screw into the frozen tree and I look over my shoulder to see a nice fat doe alternating between looking at me and looking at my decoys! If you use a wider flat limbed recurve, I think it's worth a try!

i have the third hand also , and it's perfect. just flip the bow around, and it holds it perfectly when climbing. when you get up there, flip it back around and it holds it great.

I keep it pretty simple.  If there is a rail in front, I put two small plastic hand clamps on the rail.  If I'm in a seat without a rail, I use a bow hook or bow arm.

third hand works great, adds a little weight to stand. never had any of my recurves or longbows slip
