Well, after a long drive, we made it home about 1:00 am. Bear hunting with Jerry was an awesome experience once again. The sights and sounds of the Mastigouche wilderness is second to none.

For most of the trip the weather was great... cool in the mornings and warming up for the day. One particularly nice evening found me in a stand Jerry and I had hung earlier. The goal for the night was to look for the "crazy" bear. The fact that it was tearing the trees up all around the bait sites is what earned it the nickname.. There were at least a dozen trees that had been destroyed.

I was there too! Will do my own story when my computer get back from shop. What a FANTASTIC hunt! Great guys! Hope I can do it again. Jerry and Mike could not do enough for us....
Frank you definitely need to tell your story. The look on your face the night I picked you up at bloody nose was priceless.
After an awesome lunch and some shooting practice we were off. I dropped off a couple guys on the way to my stand. Upon arrival I was surprised to find the bait had already been hit. It had only been a few hours since we had hung the stand. So I set up the drum and climbed in for the wait.

The night began pretty slow with only squirrels being seen. But that all changed shortly after 8:00. Out of the blue a noise arose from behind. It was a bear and it was running right at the base of my tree. The bear ran around huffing and asserting its dominance. I watched it for several minutes until it vanished to my left. It then reappeared in front of me and circled the bait. It seemed to be spoiling for a fight, and any bear would do. I decided that if it would give me a shot I would take it.
The big bear slowly came back and knocked the barrel over with one paw. It fed for some time not giving me the broadside shot I was looking for. I was thinking it wasn't going to happen with dark approaching but it finally came around and turned. I picked a spot and drew the 52 pounds to anchor. The bear never knew I was there as the treeshark tipped arrow zipped through it. I got a complete pass thru with the arrow glancing off the drum and sticking in the ground. After the shot the bear ran but not very far. It was down in seconds, a short 30 yards from impact.
It was getting dark for a pic but I took it from the tree before I climbed down

A VERY SPECIAL thank you to Mike, AKA Brushwolf, his wife Janice and my son Luke for all their hard work in Bear Camo 2018. the camp ran as smooth as silk and the majority of the hunters have rebooked for 2019. That says a lot. I hope to put this same team together in 2019 if the good LORD willing.
Man I am already fired up for next year!
