Hi All,
I have been off the radar for a few years or so...
I'm just wondering what's the best recurves and longbows going around these days...?
Cheers Guy
No real answer here,only opinions
Terry
Probably the one that the grip suits you best. Shoot many before you buy if you can. Some will call out to you.... :)
X's 2
The one you can shoot accurately and consistently.
I know it's not the answer your looking for but, pretty much what Kenny and Tom said!
Same as above, but I would add all the sponsors here would be a good bet I think.
Define best? Fastest? Smoothest? Least hand shock? Best grip?
Your preferences might net you better recommendations. Do you like metal or wood? One piece or takedown? Do you use accessories or shoot barebow?
For example I like tuneablity, shoot with sights, and like easily replaceable parts. As such the Hoyt Satori or the Morrison ilf would be a consideration for a new bow.
Hi all,
Ok... I'll put it this way...
If you could have any Revcure or Longbow regardless of price... what would you choose...?
Cheers Guy

Well if you put it that way...Without question for me on the recurve Black Widow PCH. Longbows, I have 3 that I love and don't know that I could pick just one.
Bob Lee recurve. Too many hybrid longbows to say. Toelke,Big Jims,Crooked Stic to list a few.

Schafer Silvertip, got the recurve, waiting for the longbow.
The best bow is the one that you shoot well, handle with ease(not over-weighted) and the one that you know is the right one.
As said above, the one that feels best you and that you shoot accurately. Personally for me it is my Black Widow PCH for a recurve, and all 5 of my Northern Mist longbows, (with a sixth on the way :archer:) Good luck with your choice, shoot as many as you can get your hands on.
Jason
Well, there is really no such thing as "The" best--lots of "bests" depending on who you ask. :saywhat:
I'm thinking this guy is looking for the fastest and highest tech in trad bows. In that case check out A&H ACS longbows, Border Hex recurves, and Dryad ACS RCs. These are likely to be the highest performing bows of their kind.
Thanks guys,
It seems like the not much has changed in the last few years or so... the same name brands seem to be at the top of the list still...
Has anyone got some new bowyers that are making a name for themselves...?
Regards Guy
Mate,
For me the Widow and Whip longbows do everything so well as all round hunting bows I don't look any further ... and quick build times and amazing customer service ...
For recurves ... and TradTech Titan for ILF.
For me it would be Toelke bows smooth and accurate the workmanship some of the best

Randy Madden at Primal Tech is definitely worth a look for longbows. He's relatively new but makes some great bows that are gaining popularity by the day.
THE BEST recurve IS a Black Widow PCH! .... Just kidding, but I do like mine ;)

Very subjective, depending on who you are talking to!
I would say for longbow it would be a Sarrels Blueridge takedown.
Cant help with recurve because I don't have enough experience with different ones to have much of an opinion.

I'd have to recommend A&H longbows, any Habu product (particularly the VyperKhan), Black Widows.... probably Blacktail but I have yet to shoot/own one of those!

Yeah, I'd go with a Bob Lee.
But for $150? Hard to beat a Red Wing Hunter (If you keep an eye out for used bows). And I don't think a modern Lee would kill a deer much deader than an old one. :archer2:
Guy, hands down best looking bow is the Big Jim Thunderchild.
:nono: no no, it's the border ghille dhu. :biglaugh:
Thank you all...
A few of those bows I haven't heard of... the Primal tech and Sarrels to name a couple... I own or have shot most or the others and are all beautiful bows in my opinion... I'd love to flick a few out of the Border Clint...
Cheers Guy
guy- you still got the saluki ibex? i've always fancied that and the turk. never shot one though.
Take a long look at Cari-bow Archery long bows and recurves. Abe Penner is a master craftsman. His bows are second to none. :archer2:

After all these years, still no "Best"....Lots of favorites, but no bests...
The one you have absolute confidence in shooting :archer2:.
Hi all,
I've stumbled across Stalker Stickbows by South Cox... does any have first hand experience on how these bows shoot...?
Hey Clint... yes still have the Saluki Ibex and the Saluki Synthian... magical bows that's for sure... the Ibex probably holds down one of most memorable hunting trips to date...
We may have to hook up and test a few of our bows together one day... :archer2:
Hi Guy we had a group hunt the other week and Clint was there and that Border of his seemed quiet and fast, but he never let me shoot it. :dunno: Also a guy had a Stalker there and it was very well made and great looking bow. Old mate making them seems to have a lot of passion if you watch any of his videos. If you and Clint have a test and tune day count me in I dont live far from Clint. I have a few I can bring too for some bow swapping.
Cheers KIM
Hey Kim,
Thanks mate, sounds like a plan re: Bow test day... I'll have to venture north of the border sometime soon... :)
As you can see there are many "best" bows....as many as there are opinions.
Well, I've had three Brackenbury recurves and four Abbott longbows. Don't know if they're the best but I have always shot them well. Lots of other bows have come and gone too. Some were custom, some were factory. I killed lots of critters with all of them.
Lately I've been shooting economical Asian longbows and recurves. I shoot them pretty darned well too. Maybe the bow doesn't have much to do with it????
What's the best? There is no answer. I have found "the one" many many times. :)
kim- sorry mate, i had no idea you wanted to have a shot. i would have gladly let you shoot it.
any time your down my way let me know. i think we talked about flyfishing for carp sometime.
guy- you have a Scythian too! even more curvaceous and alluring. if your up my way anytime, contact me and we can organise something.
Clint I was just messing with you until that week end I had not shot a bow in prob two years but it really inspired me again and I have been shooting almost every day. I had a shoulder injury which made me stop shooting and I wanted to start with a very light bow to see how it would hold up. That is why I didnt pester anyone for a shot at the time. I am really keen to organise another w/end to the same spot just as a trad get together and will keep you posted.
Cheers KIM
that would be great.
it's not wood arrows only is it?  :biglaugh: :biglaugh:
Hey Clint,
Yes mate... the Synthain was my first Saluki... and yes her curves are one of her greatest features... both bows pretty and are great to shoot.. Very fast for a little compact bow...
There are any number of really good bows out there. However, my favorite bows are Bob Lee Bows. I shoot several brands but always hunt with a Bob Lee. I am not much on longbows but I do have one, a Prairie Predator. I like it a lot but it is not my go to bow.
I spent several weeks researching my next bow. Turned out to be my last bow - Toelke SS recurve!
I now know what stack is.
Thinking seriously of selling my ILf- not as pricey as a Border or Morrison but still around 800 usd. The toelke is so smooth by comparison. I have been a hybrid longbow shooter but the transition to recurve was painless. The grip is very natural being made for my hand.
Centaur bows are another which intrigue me deeply due to the personality of the bowyer.
Gonna get another Toelke though, (wife and) God willing

Hi mate, I haven't had the chance to shoot Bob Lee bows...

Hi mate, I have a Whip and love it... the SS looks interesting
Hey all,
Has anyone shot the longbows by Hurst Bows...?
Regards Guy
I seldom shoot the recurve, but when I do, I prefer my Red Wing Hunter. Mostly I shoot a Hill style longbow. My current favorites are a Shelton from Northern Mist and a Wesley Special from HHA.
