Been wanting to move south to be near my daughter and her family. Well my family responsibilities here are now done and I'm going to go south shortly to look for a home. Looking forward to the hunting opportunities that are in Georgia and in near by states. New York has some beautiful country but I will not miss the lack of game management and liberal thinking that is here. The ability to hunt and fish, kayak, ride motorcycles longer during the year is so inviting. I'm excited.............. :campfire:
Good luck Ron,
you'll have no regrets putting NYS in the rearview mirror.
Good Luck Ron.., I know you have been looking forward to this a long time. The thing you will miss the most in NY is your friends, I can relate.
We will be glad to have you which area are you moving to l am in north Ga
It's good to be closer to family! Looking forward to some hog hunting stories. Have you started working on your Southern drawl? :biglaugh:
Your going to see some deer now Ron! Lol
Travel safe sir :campfire:
Best of luck Ron!
Thanks Guys..........going to be in Northeast Ga. near Buford, Flowery Branch, Lawrenceville.........in the triangle some place. Close to my daughter .......but not to close.....lol! Got rid of a bunch of wool hunting clothes today, kept a few things but no need for all that I had. I need a place to hang all my bows.......cause they ate all going with me. :dunno:
Good deal Ron. Good hunting and fishing in Georgia. Nice weather too.
Well Ron, I seem to be short 2 bows from the move, seems they may have been misplaced in the mail. They were both very special bows but I do have some space on my rack at the moment.
If I can help you in any way with your home search Ron just shout at me. I'm in real estate and HQ'ed in Buford
Ron, Ray Hammond is a class guy with whom I have hunted several times. He will do right by you. Best of luck in your new adventures!
Thanks Ray, I will never forget the meals you fed us at Hog Heaven, and I will give you a call one way or another. Looking forward to the move.
That is a good area it has some good hunting around there and some good trad archery clubs close buy check out north Ga traditional archery club it is in Gainville and the Tbg

best of luck Ro  :wavey:n
I cook like that at home too!😄when you're here give me a shout and we'll rustle up some steaks or something! Maybe a pig hunt to get you settled in too
Just over the border from Augusta, GA in Aiken, SC.
Not a bad choice, I lived in that area from 1987-2014. Gwinnett County had (probably still does) and extended archery in January so you could bowhunt from the middle of September through to January 31st with a massive season limit on Whitetails.
If you fish there is Lake Lanier which is full of big Spotted Bass and Stripers, as well as that weird good eating fish that only the transplanted Yankees know how to catch, Walleye. If you fly fish the tailwater fishery below the dam is stocked Rainbow water but the Brown trout in the Chattahoochee are wild. There is a group of fly fishers that specialize in catching extremely large Browns swinging big tandem streamers on 7 & 8 weight rods, they don't talk about it much but if you are interested you can find them. Several Wildlife Management Areas within 2-3 hours drive have good Hog populations as well or you can make a drive South and be all in it. When you get there put in for a gator tag every year and rack up your points.
Welcome to the heat and humidity Ron!! Lots of options for hunting down here. I have a traditional only hunting lease west of Atlanta, give me a shout if you want to check it out once you get down here...
Lee
I just may do that........thanks for the info.
Best of luck with the move Ron.

Congratulations Ron, I know you have been looking forward to moving out of NY for a while. We all have. And I hear ya on the liberal thinking and what seems like lack of game management. At least for us northern zone hunters. I am envious, but also a little sad... I'll sure miss chatting with you and shooting with you. Some really good times and memories we made from over at Rockwood. And down at OxTAR.

Safe travels my friend, and take very good care. And ride safe!
I am not far down the road in gray, ga near Macon. Lots of deer and turkey.
very happy for you Ron, you will be greatly missed. I truly appreciate your friendship and the MANY MANY times you have helped me!
Good Luck, Ron! Happy for you, now you'll be closer to Texas! You'll have to come on over and we'll kill some pigs!
LD
Best Of Luck Ron! Gonna miss ya too.....
All you NY boys shouldn't be sad that Ron is moving to GA, you have one of your own moving to a target rich environment with more numbers and variety of fish and game than you could ever imagine in NY.
And once he has boots on the ground and gets established he will need to be visited, and what better time to visit that during hunting season?
Looking forward to the move.......thanks for all the good thoughts.
Welcome to the South Ron. You are already aware of the positive move it was for us....
Ron,
Good Luck with your move, looks like you have a great welcoming commity setup already waiting for you !! Gonna see you at Denton in about a month ?
Good luck on your move Ron and best to you and yours. Hope you find the all that you are looking for! :campfire:
Well........we did it.......our offer on a home was accepted and my wife and I are now home owners in the state of Georgia. We will be living in Buford just 8 miles from our daughter and her family. Once we are settled I will reach out to the trad archers in northeast Georgia for tips and advise. I'll be calling you Ray Hammond......lol
:clapper: :clapper:
Congrats Ron! Now you have 2 lawns to mow lol
Be sure and join TBG
congrats Ron  :clapper:
Good luck to you Ron! I hope you find what you are looking for and enjoy all the fishing and hunting!!
Kenny
Congratulations Ron! Good luck with the move.
PS - I am envious!
Now the work begins........selling the house up north, yard sales packing 41 years of marriage up and moving it 1000 miles........but it will be worth it. Looking forward to meeting my new trad bowhunting friends in Georgia. I will miss my shooting buddies in the north, but this has to be done.
Well, its good to hear you have located a place to settle. Start looking around for good places to hunt, including public lands. Check up on Traditional Bowhunters of Georgia and buys gallons of Permethrin to protect against ticks. Early bow season is HOT, so spend some time shooting in the heat. One more piece of advice... SNAKE BOOTS. You will like hunting in the South. Our deer are not as big as you find in some other places, but we have a bunch of them. Hogs are plentiful as well. In short, welcome to the sunny South.
Best wishes to you Ron!
Looking forward to lots of new hunting stories from you!
Congrats on the move! My family almost relocated to Georgia last year but after evaluating the work/home balance of the job I was offered and the lack of services for my older daughter's autism, we decided it wasn't the right fit for us. I lived in Georgia in the early 2000's and didn't realize how great the hunting was compared to back north! You are going to enjoy it! Good luck!
Good luck Ron. Maybe a 3d before the move. Dan
Hey Dan........we will try for a shoot before we go.
Good luck Ron, We will have to make That ADK hunt some other time, enjoy the south!
Going to trade the mountains of the north for the mountains of the south.........lol
Ron, I saw the post you made on the TBG page. Jeff had already responded, so I'll just respond here. First, welcome to Georgia. I know several people in the area you're moving, and the NGT trad shoot there is a good one and close to you. They put on a 3d shoot each month.
The TBG is the state trad bowhunting organization, and although we do have shoots, we also do several group hunts each year. We're doing a deer hunt late October at Berry College WMA , a pig hunt at Chickesawhatchee WMA in January, and probably another deer hunt in between. I look forward to meeting you.
Thanks for the info........I also am looking forward to meeting new folks........
It's a done deal.......had the closing on the house today. I now will live in Buford Ga. very shortly. After 66 years in central New York between the Adirondacks and the Catskills will be the north Ga. foothills not far from the Smokies. Will be some major changes coming up but I think mostly good changes.
Congrats again, Ron :clapper: :clapper:
Congrats on your move... :jumper:
Congrats and good luck Ron!
F-Manny
A big plus for you if Regs are the same as when I lived in Gwinnett County, and they probably are, is that you had an extended bow season. When gun time ended on January 1st you still had until January 31st with a bow.
Now it is a done deal.......we own a home in Buford, our house is under contract in New York and most of our stuff is moved down. One last trip down with the rest of our stuff in a few weeks. It all happened so fast, but I will be hunting in Georgia soon.
Are we there yet....Are we there yet......Are we there yet...? :biglaugh:
Kidding Ron! Glad things are going well for you and yours! Look forward to the hunting stories to follow in your new neck o' the woods! :campfire:
Have gotten acclimated to the heat and humidity yet?
The heat makes my joints feel better.......lol. Actually I keep tabs on the weather, when it's hot and humid here in N.Y. like it is now.......it's cooler in Georgia.......not by much but it is cooler. The weather is on the list of reasons I'm going south.
Congratulations on your new home Ron and welcome to GA! I am sure that you will be happy here and enjoy what our state has to offer. I am about 80 miles W. of you in Cedartown, GA. Maybe we can get together for a deer or turkey hunt after you get settled in.
I hope that your move goes well. :shaka:
Welcome to Dixie! I live over on the AL/GA line, Alabama side, but I hunt exclusively on the GA side. Its a sportsman's paradise in my eyes. I've lived here for 17 years, also from NY (Jamestown, just south of Buffalo). Most deer are small, but you can harvest a bunch of them to make up for it. Pigs are the jewel though, however you decide to go after them. I prefer fair-chase wild run, but thats just me. Welcome and enjoy! I lived over by Savannah for 4 years, the low country is its own world, but no less than the hill country over on this end.
I grew up there, you'll like it, especially the long bowhunting season and fishing. I know a lot of people that moved from New York and Ohio to Georgia, most of the people that I've known that left GA went to Montana, Idaho and Colorado. But nobody that I know left Georgia for NY or OH. Remember to put in for a gator permit every year to start accumulating points.
Congratulations Ron, on your new home! Good luck hunting and fishing and I hope it all works good for you!
Kenny :clapper: :clapper:
Thanks for all the good thoughts......I'm excited to hunt in the south. Had some messages about hunting and fishing and I will check them out. Only a couple of weeks away it looks like.......
:wavey: Bye Ron don't be a stranger!
WELCOME !!!
You will be glad you didn't sell ALL your wool....only a few days a year, but you will be thankful.
Congrats on the move, GA is a beautiful state. Wish I was a bowhunter when I lived there 28 years ago, didn't start for another 4 years after I moved back to MI. Safe travels!
Ron:
I left NE New Jersey back in 65 for school and ended up here in Southernmost IL. Been here ever since.
The only thing I miss is the great seafood, good homemade Italian food and my high school buds.....
Enjoy yourself you are in a great place.
Good hunting.
