This is a new spin on a story I started Monday night. I was on my phone using my Tapatalk app and after an hours worth of texting I hit post and lost every thing but some pics which is the only reason I was using the app. That said, this time I'll do it in broken form and give a review of the subject bow at the conclusion. In a couple of days I will also show pics of my new Eagles Flight Don has already shipped :jumper:This is my first ordered custom so please excuse the enthusiasm! Well it's bed time as I've got an early morning scouting trip planned.
:campfire:
Well, perhaps one more nugget since I got the inevitable campfire emoji. Back in February I made "THE" call to Jason about crafting a bow I've been pondering for quiet some time. We ironed out all the details and I was told to expect her some time in May. This was great as we would have ample time to become intimate!

About to hit the woods but a quicky wont set me back. For the most part I'm a clear glass guy but the nostalgic green glass and Bubinga appeals to me so I took the plunge. I draw just shy of 28" and opted for the 58" model but a couple weeks later, knowing Jason hadn't started I phoned him requesting a change to a 60". Every part of the ordering process was a joy mostly because of Jason's patience and enthusiasm! For what it's worth all the trad sponsors I've dealt with have been top notch. Gotta go :wavey:
Back from scouting expedition frogs were all over the lake and here's why! Where there's Crawfish there's frogs

Let's face it I'm a tight wad when it comes to money and all sorts of financial opposition started setting in before my bow was started and after counting the cost I reluctantly phoned Jason to cancel the build and told him to keep the deposit. He said if in the future I changed my mind just let him know and he could apply it to the bow. I felt I made the right decision but I would be lying if I said I didn't fantasize about the day I would hoist that bad boy up a tree. I like doing business with good people and it made me sick to opt out.
A week or so after cancelling my order the bow came up in a casual conversation between myself and a fellow Ganger, John Langley (South Mississippi Bow Hunter).
I had let him know I cancelled and he was disappointed. Fast forward to this past Monday evening.
As I was driving home from work I got a call from my Brother in Law Tommy (Mississippi Archer) And he asked could he come by the house and shoot my selfbow and
I agreed. We had shot a little bit and he said, hey, John texted and asked could he swing by and show me a knew bow he ordered to which I replied, "why certainly"!
John had on more than one occasion mentioned an interest in a Centaur Triple Carbon and I just knew he bit the bullet. :dunno:
After a few minutes John pulled in and we walked out to greet him. He had a radiant glow about him only a new Stick owner could have :goldtooth:. Without wasting any time he walked around to the passenger side of his Tacoma and extracted a long cardboard box. He the pulls out his knife and commences to open and I asked wait a minute, you got a knew bow and you were able to drive all the way over without opening it? :knothead: With top removed he proceeds to pull out a fleece sleeve and he had our full attention!
Graceful curves soon followed but wait a minute, you aint a green glass guy whats up with that? Then the riser section appeared and what else but Bubinga. And immediately I thought after all my talk of a Kanati and all John's responses about how he's heard nothing but praises regarding the he done broke down and got him one :clapper: After totally unveiling her he says read this! :readit:
Yes, I am Scout and Supreme Leader and Sniper, my two frogging and hunting comrades along with my wife's knowledge had devised a scheme! As soon as John had learned I backed out of the bow deal he devised a plan to solicit Tommy's help and with J K Tradition's approval reordered my bow. John said he would pay the bow off if Tommy would get the Eagles Flight Cochise he knew I was planning on getting for it.

Now Jason's a busy Bowyer and doesn't do it full time but he pulled a fsat one and managed to get the bow out well before it should have been done. I've owned a number of customs (second hand) as well as a few imports :knothead: and have enjoyed most of them but there's nothing like putting all of your own preferences into an order. Tomorrow the quiver should arrive and I'll make an attempt to give the bow and quiver combo a just review as promised!
Oh, before I settle in for the night here's some Kanati mojo and the F. R. O. G. Team that gotter done last night!

See if Liz can link the video Scout, and good shooting last night!
A new bow and great comrades. What more could a feller want???

If it's been said once, been said a thousand times.
Trad guys are the best
That's a great story ! What great friends and family. :clapper:

Sadly enough a few days after ordering my bow John found out he had termites in his home.

Amen! Thankyou Brother
Awesome!!

Great combo, I love green glass. Wouldn't mind an Osage riser with green glass, the bubinga looks amazing too.
Boy! She's a beaut! I love that quiver on her.

As a teen aged boy I can remember as some of you old timers can the Norb Mullaney bow reviews.I really got into those especially if it was a bow I was interested in. I cant compare to any of the experts but I know what I like and I'm gonna put it into words as best I can. I draw just under 28" so as you can imagine the 60" model is smooth throughout the draw. Jason Kendall, Bowyer and Owner of J.K. Traditions says his 58" version will handle 28 inches of draw but I figured I might enjoy the added benefit of the bigger brother.
Last season I hunted with a 56" longbow and certainly have no beef with shorties but the bow is experiencing some minor core lam issues so I'm retiring it. Since season went out I've been shooting long self bows and have been shooting sitting down, kneeling and hard canting. With my open front stand The Kanati will be a breeze. Deep sweeping reflex best describes her limbs and at the end of the review I'll post a pic of her drawn to 24" to show that the tips still retain the slightest bit of curl. At just beyond my draw the limbs are unwound and the shooter can benefit from the stored energy that's aching to launch. With three Bamboo core lams, one notably thicker than the other this sweet heart has some thrust. This is by comparison to other bows I own or have owned in this draw weight range. I've shot full length 400's just shy of 600 grains and they will be my arrow of choice. The shorter 500's that came in at 9+ GPP screamed and if I was strictly a target guy they would fit the bill. The grip was an eye catcher and upon shooting, proved to be more than that. It forces my hand right where I want it. If it weren't for the ditches quills leave in my hand I could shoot off of it. I never shot calf hair and it seems just fine but time will tell. The tips were done as requested with a hint of Bubinga to accent the riser.
I'll take this time to to mention how well both the tips and the riser overlays were feathered into the back glass with no notable valleys. The finish comes very flat and almost looks non existent. Now I'm not sure what Jason's options are but I requested flat. The finish on the glass is slightly textured and pleasing to my eye. Bamboo, I assume due to it's hardness, has an inherent twang to it that is different than string noise but not objectionable. Non the less I dressed her with Acrylic yarn puffs in the usual attempt to suppress all the noise possible. The benefit of added speed in my opinion far out weighed the slight noise. I'm not being critical of what little sound she emits but simply drawing a distinction between it and let's say Maple cores. Now today My quiver came and upon strapping it on, what little noise I heard was notably reduced. I wasn't expecting the reduction but have heard others mention similar results. For kicks a chronograph would have been fun but since I'll be launching logs, makes little difference to me :dunno:.
My Cochise quiver quality speaks for itself. Don took my order 4 days ago and yesterday dont count. :notworthy: I like bow hunting better than anything and my bow wears a quiver full time. Well sometimes when I frog I'll remove it just because of mud and slime. This is my second EFA and this will be my quiver of choice. I dont like Velcro in the woods but since it wont be removed I'm good. The quiver is solid and holds fast. I like the Totem and set each end of my grippers where my fades terminate. :clapper: A big thanks to the aforementioned sponsors and to my Brothers in the Lord and hunting companions for making all this possible. Thanks and may God bless you both.
Thanks for the welcomed compliments and here's the uncoiling of the limb tips @ 24".

Possum, It looks like you have a pretty good combination of equipment there. Thanks for sharing. It's always good to see what happens to the quivers once they leave here.
I like promoting good stuff perhaps I'll post a pic of it laying across a kill this fall. I'm very pleased with my new combo!

Fantastic. Thank you for sharing. Great combo you have there.
You are welcome and thanks. I'm grateful to have time to get acquainted with it before Deertober!

Very cool story. What a great looking combination of bow and quiver. You did great picking out the color scheme. Jason sure knows how to build a bow.
Thanks and yes his work is remarkable work. I'm enjoying the Bamboo lams!

Nice one. Can you take a photo of the back in sunlight. The green looks nice.
I tested a bunch of string materials on these, try 18 strands of 452X for a quieter shot.
Tedd
Sure Tedd but it will Friday before I'll see daylight again with the crazy hours I'm working. Thanks I'm ready for two new strings so that will be one of them. Who builds yours?

Good looking bow and your friends are tops in my book, enjoy the shooting!
