Title: Hunting arrows. If this is ok.
Post by: killzthemost on May 26, 2018, 03:19:22 PM
Hey , guys I was wondering if these arrows are to heavy? My hunting arrow setup Easton FMJ 400s cut I think to 29.875" and with a 75 grain brass insert and 200 grain grizzlystik 200 grain massai broadhead and using 3×5" right wing feathers . Total wt. Is 646 grains. They fly like darts and they hit hard .My bow is a BW PLX 51#@28" my draw is deadon 28". My real question if I keep my hunting shots to say 18yards and under are they going to be to slow ? Thanks guys for your advice and knowledge.

Sounds like a great arra to me. Too slow, well that might open a can of worms but most here are more concerned with accuracy and sharpness. You might get some looks with wheel shooters but some of the finest flight I've seen was pokey at best.

Jason,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         If your shots are close (20 and under), You are good to go! Your bow will be quieter with a heavy arrow also. I shoot a similar set up and they hit hard!

Perfect! I shoot a PL also, and it loves a heavy arrow! 57#@28. My arrows are 670gr with 300 of those upfront, and 3 5" feathers.

You know a PL ! I have had about 5 or 6 PL everyone shoots a hvy arrow perfect! And the these bows are dead quite with a hvy arrow.  What broadhead you shooting this year? I hunt pigs and whitetail mostly .

I had 3 in the past. All PL V's. 63#, 54#, and my current one is 62" and 57#. My broadhead has been the Abowyer Brown Bear for the past 10 years, but I sometime mix it up with Zwickey Eskimos or ACE Standards

You could hit further too and they'd still be lethal it's just that the trajectory would make aiming tricky. Not sure how you shoot but since I aim it's always a balancing act between arrow weight and trajectory.

If you can shoot it well at hunting distances you should be good to go. If you decide to go with these arrows start practicing with only them for a while before hunting season.

your good to go at whatever distance you feel confident hitting kill zone consistently. That's about the same weight arrow I shoot in FMJ also with 51@28 longbow drawn to 28 3/4 in.

Mine are 740 and I'm solid out to 30 no problems. Hit a bear last year and it didn't slow down at all. Yours sounds like a great arrow setup

Go for it.

My 55lb PLX loves a 670 grain Douglas Fir. Super quiet and, when I do my part, it shoots absolutely fine out to well beyond my ethical hunting distance, and I don't find them slow at all.

Just do plenty of stumping etc to learn your arrows flight.

Use your set-up with utter confidence. Use it to put a properly sharp broadhead in the right place, and it will not let you down.

Best
Lex
