Title: String replacement ....

How often do you replace your string? What are your reasons?

Not a matter of time, it is a matter of wear.  When it starts to fray, around the loops, IF serving gives out (may want to just reserve if you have that skill).  Waxed and looking good, no need to replace.  However IF in doubt, replace.

Arnie makes good points.

For me unless unusual wear shows I replace annually. After a hunting season string may have taken a bunch of abuse, cheap insurance and gives a back up string. Plus I like to twist up a new flemish.

I'm with moebow/Arne.  It's not a matter of time, but of wear.  You might shoot a particular bow a few hours a year, another several hours a week.  One might be 35#, the other 75#.  One might have a Dacron string, the other Mercury.  One string may be 8 strands, the other 18 strands.  All of these play a factor in how long the string will last.  Use common sense.

I look for wear on my strings also. I guess I might be in the minority, but I have bows I shoot regularly that have the same strings for 3-4-5 years. In 40 years I've never had one break.

I hate changing anything once I get everything right. I have to see some wear or something bad with the string before I will put a new one on!

Unfortunately, I've never kept a bow long enough to wear out a string! :biglaugh:

I used to replace my B-50 strings every year.  They would often look ready to be replaced.  Since going to low stretch material, they look good as new year after year and I don't change until they look damaged in some way.

It's string condition I change out once a year. I shoot a lot  they wear at loops. Some shooters may get years from a string.
