.....and Im infected! :biglaugh:
Actually been wanting to shoot wood for a couple of years now, and I stopped by Tom Jenkins place a few weeks ago and shot some wood and that sealed the deal for me! Chuck from Two Tracks is building me a "Ogemaw" that Im going to setup just for wooden shafts. So you know how us bow guys are...I did a "wood arrow kills" search on here for pics to quench my wood arrow thirst, but the thread is old and the pics no longer are available to view. So....Lets see some pics ! Also Im interested in hearing about your arrow setups and what you guys like, point weights preferred and if FOC or UFOC is a part of your wood arrow setups. Thanks Guys!
Welcome to Woody World!
Check this thread out...you'll never be the same!

Good. Good . . .
Rats - we don't have a wringing hands smiley.
I've shot nothing but wood since 1982 and the local whitetail seem to have an allergy. They weren't so affected by aluminum in my 1980-1982 trials.
Wood bows should shoot wood arrows. Pretty straight forward. ;-)
Wood is good! :shaka:
Woodies are awesome.
Especially if ya put wild turkey feathers on them.
Cane or bamboo arrows are even more awesome, because of their natural FOC taper.
Bamboo arrows with wild turkey feathers just kick Bass..
First longbow/cedar arrow kill..
It felt awesome....

One week later, first buck with a longbow and cedar arrow.
That was special..

Roy, that's a trophy any way you slice it. :clapper:
They can be somewhat fragile, though. Like when the deer falls on them.

I did it once with a wood arrow,[attachment=1]
Thanks for the replies guys, keep them coming!
Last fall's harvest.
(I've been using only wood shafts since 1982).

Hey, Stumpy, what's with the cheerleaders pom pom on your quiver?
Jacobs sheep wool yarn tassel to wipe the dirt and stump blood off my shafts when roving/stumping.
Get the deer to look at that and not notice my predator ferocious stare. ;-)

Also something to hide behind when stalking up on a deer.
Wood is all I use. I like POC, Spruce, Pine, and DF in that order. Trying out some old hex shafts this year.
Not crazy about FOC, but I'll occasionally use some 200 grain Ace or ribteks on the end. I like a balanced arrow.
Big 5 1/2 inch parabolics and straight offset fletch these days.

I shoot Douglas Fir and Sitka Spruce paralled with Zwickey Eskimos up front[attachment=1]
I like the pom. Might make one up in my old school colors purple and white.

I must be doing something wrong. I can't get stumps to bleed no matter how hard I try. :dunno:
Great photos, BTW!
Hex shafts. 6 bright ones for me, 6 dark ones for my brother

Yep just when you think Trad Bow can't get any better wood arrows I just started making them to and I never knew I had a crafty side :knothead:.
I've killed a ton of game with wooden arrows over the years. I currently shoot aluminum exclusively. Nothing like the aroma of a freshly broken XX75. :goldtooth:
Nothing fancy but straight and matched, weight and spine..............
One thing also, you always got kindling to start a fire in a pinch :goldtooth:
Nothing as pretty as a dipped and crested woodie. Carbons or aluminum just ain't the same.

Yup. And what's nice is you can change up cap dip, cresting, fletching colors and quantities as your mood changes.
Very nice fellas...keep them coming!

Well, ever since getting rid of my training wheels and picking up a Trad bow many years ago, my two longbows have never ever shot anything other than wooden shafts.
My 55lb Blackwidow PLX shoots really well with 70-75# Surewoods and 160 grains up front, and my 75lb PLX absolutely loves 105-110# Surewoods with 235 grains or 135# Forrester Wood Shafts with 335 grains out on the sharp end.
Wooden arrows still seem to put all sorts and sizes of game on the ground without any fuss. I've taken game from rabbits to buffalo with wooden arrows, and plenty of other things in between. I really don't see any reason to change.
Is wood as straight and as consistent as carbon or aluminium? Not as a rule. But with a little care they can be more than straight and consistent enough.

And I love settling down to start making up another set of wooden arrows. I find it very therapeutic after a tough week at work.
