Been shooting a longbow for a long time but have had an itch for a recurve. I have been looking at a TT . I really like the looks of them, but do I really need(I hate that 4 letter word) it. I don't know if I will like shooting a recurve again, but I sure do want to scratch that itch. Help me :banghead:
Stick with the Treadway's, no need to fix what isn't broken. I keep loiking at bows too, and every day have to tell myself I already have everything I need.
You must have at least one longbow, one recurve, one selfbow. That way you can shoot different classes at shoots, you get the feel of the different equipment, you can hunt with different bows for different species and or seasons or reasons. You like the Tall Tines, once you get one in your hands your really find out how much you like it. I don't shoot my Howard Hill every week but I sure do have fun when I do shoot it. I mostly hunt and shoot my Blacktails.
You should enable yourself to get a Tall Tines and see what it is all about. :archer2:

Sounds like you are describing me. It don't hurt to look, or is that the first step in the wrong direction? :knothead:
For a while I wanted to think I was a longbow shooter as well. I have tried many of the high end bows out there and thought I had found "the" bow when I got a TT stickflinger from Brian. But then I too got the itch to shoot a recurve again and ordered one from Brian. I went with the long riser and short limbs making a 60" bow for my 28" draw, and wow! This is now my go to bow and shoot it better than any other bow I have ever had.
I have settled on TallTines bows, and you won't go wrong ordering one. Dont sell yourself short with just longbows, you will love his recurve!

NO NO DON'T DO IT, THINK OF THE CHILDREN!! does that help? Sounds to me like you need a new good Hill style longbow and some new wood arrows.
Well, they are smooth, pack a punch, and look good. Oh and I like the grip. Hope that helps.

I can solve your dilemma, you dont need a recurve. But you do need a tall tines stickflinger.! I have 2!
I have to agree with mec. I have had a few top end recurves, Tall Tines, Blacktail, among them. I liked both of them a lot.
I considered myself a recurve guy who messed around with longbows. My Tall Tines Stickflinger changed all of that. I don't have a recurve that I would hunt with in the house anymore.
I do have some nice longbows that I will still hunt with besides the Stickflinger. but the Stickflinger eliminated my dependence on recurves.
I wouldn't hunt in the house with a recurve either. I used my daughters little bamboo flat limb out in the farm house, a great little mouse killer.
Sounds like a little doubt on your mind, always go with first instinct.Stay with your longbow!
You got me Pavan. :clapper: Although I do shoot in the house (basement)
Thanks Brad, you may be right, I have went back to shooting my Black Forest that's been with me for 14 years and it is like an old friend , probably ought to stick with it.
I usually wait for two weeks before I order anything just to get the novelty out of my head and really think if I need it or is it impulse. 9 times out of 10 I don't buy. Just my 2 cents
Wouldn't be caught dead with one

Pat has the prettiest collection of bows I've ever seen hands down!!
As a bowyer I can appreciate and admire the work of other bowyers that I consider excellent craftsman!!
I have a very short list of bows/bowyers that I would consider buying a bow from If for some reason I ever decided I needed or wanted to.
Tall Tines is included in that very short list!! Excellent craftsmanship and very well mannered! The stickflinger ( I know that's not what you referred to) is hands down one of the smoothest drawing bows I've ever drawn. Except for maybe the cyclone from legends bows. It's a toss up. Bryan's recurves are very excellent as well! Weather you need it or not it would be a great investment that would bring you years of enjoyment.
Ps... I have never spoken to Bryan in any way and wouldn't even know him if I past him on the street. So this isn't a bump for a friend or anything like that.
Can't go wrong with a TallTines recurve. Same for the Stickflinger. Brian and his bows are top notch.
Some of y'all aren't very good at talking someone out of buying a bow :biglaugh:
If I had to just keep one bow I'm afraid it would have to my Tall Tines recurve, and I own or have owned just about every top end bow.
TTs are one of my top 4 bows. Brian is great to deal with. But I would shoot one first or at least buy used in case it's not for you especially if you've been shooting a longbow.
Bought one last year, killed 2 deer with it. Love it! First recurve I bought that I hunted with and like. Always been a longbow guy but the tt curve is just fantastic.
Sometimes you just have to scratch that itch.
You would be doing yourself a huge disservice by not trying anything Brian makes. Great hunting bows. His Hybrid longbow the "Stickflinger" is my personal favorite hunting bow but all of his stuff is top shelf in my opinion.

This is my Tall Tines Stickflinger, the background is curtesy of a Tall Tines recurve. (I am really liking this attachment feature to add a photo)

talk you out of it, why, life is short, buy that recurve and have fun.
Scratch That Itch. At the end of your life you will regret the things that you didn't do much more than the things that you did.
Well I finally decided to scratch that itch and I have a 62" Tall Tines 52@28 on the way, I'm not giving up on my Treadway, just testing the waters

How long of a wait did Brian tell you?

I bought a used one
Enjoy as I am sure you will! what did you acquire?
Nope...can't talk you out of it.
I can't either. At first, I wasn't crazy about the grip, now it's my go to bow. Quick, relatively quiet and very smooth drawing.
I will put up some pics when I get it, it is Osage and cocabola
Talk you out of it?
Not sure we can, but tell your wife about it...
Here's a pic from the seller
My wife is the one who talked me into it, I think she got tired of listening to me :biglaugh:
Very nice and unique looking TT!
O.K. here is my speech to talk you out of it. GO FOR IT! GO FOR IT! GO FOR IT! Oh, well, I tried. Be sure to post lots of pictures.
Here's some more
How do you like it? Standard grip? My first one was a custom grip(used) and I was like meh, but it performed. Got another one with standard grip. Ohh doctor lol
I out of town right now and expect it to be waiting on me when I get home, I'll give you an opinion next week :bigsmyl:
Hear's a true story from 2 weeks ago. I was in Bear camp with Brian 2 weeks ago and i had spoke to him a few times and he said he had a left hand recurve that he was bringing for me to look at. I think it was the second day i got it out and shot it but both shots were low which was under standable as i shoot off a rest and his was off the shelf. Next day we put a rest on it and the first 5 were right there in the vitals. I think i may have shot it 20 times or so and i asked him if i could take it with me tonight. I'm not sure what he thought of that but said ok. Well that night a bear came in and I
pin wheeled him perfect and didnt go far. He wasn't the biggest bear but I was proud of how the bow handeled it. I couldn't wait to tell Brian. He was happy for me thats for sure. Oh and by the way i used one of his arrows and told him i was keeping the arrow and yes I did buy the bow from him. So Im not the one to try and talk you out of buying one.
Tall Tines whether recurve or longbow are worth every dime IMHO. The Stickflinger is really something special.
Nice looking bow you have coming your way. Congrats, you are going to enjoy it!
Sweet, what's the specs on that beauty?
I got my new to me TT today and it is nice. I love the grip. I am trying to find the right spine arrow for it right now, it is 52@28 and i have tried several spines, does any tall tine owners have a suggestions
Thanks, Scott
