Title: Waterproofing feathers
Post by: Bill Carlsen on April 15, 2018, 12:27:19 PM
Remember seeing  a thread about waterproofing feathers. Haven't posted in a while so thought I'de give the new site a shot and add a pic. I use silicone water proofing that I buy at Walmart. It is not in the pic but in the store it has a fl. orange cap which makes it easy to find. Once I spray the fletch I leave the arrows on our porch or in the garage for a night and the smell is gone once they dry. I works better than anything else I have tried and even if I get a pass thru on an animal the fletching has very little blood on them. In addition it seems to inhibit the mites that eat away at untreated feathers.

My wife happens to be out to WalMart now. I sent her a text of the pic you posted asking her to grab a can. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks, Bill.
I'm going to try that this week, some mites have been at work in my arrow supply.

I use the food grade stuff (very similar product) likely does not make much difference once it is dry.
