Spent the day in the shop getting dusty. First coat of tung oil on the bow with the 31.5" draw..

I guess it's ok. Not my bow so I don't care.. :)

We lost the first one from a couple months ago.

Looking good Roy, but there is a couple of worm holes in them lams. ;)
Bue, that's what the glue is for...
Excellent work Guys!! But the title is misleading, shop fun, I was expecting to see beer cans and police tape.
And a chalk outline of an appendage. Now THAT'S a carvin' party!
Lookin good.
What happened to attempt #1?
That one looks better Roy! :) And I don't mind a few worm holes!!
Tiller looks good on Tim's bow.

what i love best about young Roys bows, is how they look like a perfect bend thru the handle bow at full draw- due to the unique riser that is used-
i just love that profile
pity i only have a 26" draw
Looks like a good time Roybert ol' boy.
The bow drawn in the photo and on the tillering tree in the video is only drawn to 26 inches. That is my draw length too.
LOL, welcome to trad gang, Tim.
Second coat of tung oil. Two more coats should be good.

That's pretty enough, to almost make me want one instead of my usual recurves.
Too bad you don't make that with deep recurves, Roy!
I have, Ken. But the deep reflex is a bugger to tiller with a wooden bow.
I like the tung oil look
Looks Great!
wow- that is a looker!!
Yeah it looks nice Roy. Just straight tung oil? Do you still use tru oil?
Never used tru oil. 4 to 5 coats of tung oil.
Ooops. Sorry. I guess it's one of those things where you read what you want to hear not what's actually written. I saw Tru when you wrote Tung and just assumed you always use tru oil.
Glad to hear. I have used tung oil a lot and will try it on my next bow.
Use the tung oil you wipe on, wait 8 minutes and wipe off.
Check out this riser, curly maple. Awesome wood.

what did you stain the curly with- looks really nice
obviously you do it after shaping- is it just careful application that keeps it off the rest of the handle- how do you stop it bleeding?
The entire bow was stained at once with silver gray alcohol based aniline dye.
Them are some pretty bows.
Nice stuff Roy!
Thanks Bud..
Those all look great Roy!
Dang it Roy.
I just convinced myself to NOT stain my black locust lams with grey dye. Now that I've seen that maple I'm having second thoughts.
Thanks a lot :dunno:
LOL..
Actually different color dyes come out different on different woods.
Mitch, ya got a hickory riser and buffalo horn tips glued on today..

Slow down son - I haven't even started the riser for yours yet! :)
I like buff tips!
No biggie dude. I gotta finish Wayne's bow first. Plus some side jobs needing done, plus teaching a couple of newbies now..
Take yer time, hunting season hain't till next fall anyways..
Tim was back today. He took his bow home last week and put 800 shots through it. Tiller changed 1/16th inch.
He roughed out the handle.
