Anybody ever tried to make a bow from Crape Myrtle?
Blackhawk on the other site
I've seen some good bows made with crepe myrtle. The first one I saw was a 95# English war bow style bow but I've seen "regular" weight bows too although I've never made one.
Thinking I'll save a piece or two when I thin the crape myrtles and give it a try. Thanks Pat.
If you Google search "crepe myrtle stave bow (no bom)", the top link should be to PA with a self bow made from crepe myrtle. There are more on that site in particular, but from the looks of it, it makes a fine bow.
Good to know. There's a bunch around me too, but I never thought to make a bow out of it. Most seem to be small in diameter and not straight.
Anything 1 1/2" in diameter or bigger should work.
I need to cut the one at my dad's house, he want's it gone.
If any of you guys do go for it and make a bow from CM let me know how it turns out? I'm gonna check out that search info from Ty.
Ken75 made a whole bunch of them. He really liked it. His signature line used to say "crepe myrtle is my yellow wood" or something like that....
We have a ton of it but the grain naturally twists so I figured it was more work that it was worth.
