What is the best way to keep snakeskins? I have a pair of copperheads coming but am going to sinew back the bow so it will be a few months before I use them.
If you are sure they are completely dry just put them in a ziplock until you are ready to use them.
I've kept air dried snake skins, including copperheads, in Ziplock bags, and in the fridge, for years with no apparent affect on them.
I would have froze them, but didn't want to risk freezer burn.
I don't even keep them in the refrig or freezer. I keep them in a cabinet. I have some that I've had for years like that with no ill effects.
Good for you, Pat. It's a static situation... and I'd rather have double protection at no additional cost or effort... especially when copperheads are concerned. Jmo.
I have about a dozen or more skins several years old air dried held together at the end with a rubber band hanging in the corner of my shop. No issues with this so far.
I have 2 fishing tackle organizers that I keep my skins in. I make sure they are good and dry before I roll them up and store them away. Like Pat, I've had skins for several years waiting for a match and they are in the same condition as when I first put them away. I keep the organizer boxes in a large plastic tote with borax lining the bottom to keep any bugs or mites out. I keep all my animal parts in that tub.
