Title: Which side do I sand?
Post by: Kopper1013 on May 16, 2016, 06:54:00 PM
So I believe my string is track good, if it's not I can't see it drifting one way or the other, but when I look down the back of my bottom limb (top limb looks great) I see this:

 (http://i1166.photobucket.com/albums/q611/Kopper1013/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpstcpzwbhe.jpeg) (http://s1166.photobucket.com/user/Kopper1013/media/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zpstcpzwbhe.jpeg.html)

Exaggerated to show effect so which side should I sand to try and get this twist out or what should I do?

Deepen the string groove in the edge of the limb on the left(weak) side, if possible. And remove material from the right(strong) side of the limb.

Thanks mwosborn, I've seen that diagram Roy posted a few times before but couldn't understand how it applied to twist just string drift... So am I correct in saying according to my drawing the left side is the strong side (the side to sand) and the right is weak (don't touch for now)?

Sorry bowjunkie hadn't refreshed dice the last post my string grooves are getting a little deep and my poundage was a little heavy so I was going to take some out of the limbs....so the right side is the strong side? That's confusing to me I guess I would think the side that was staying up would be the strong side glad I didn't start sanding yet hahaha

Kopper1013 help me understand what I'm seeing in your picture. What is the big block at the bottom? And what is the tapered block on top? Which way are we looking, from riser to tip or what?

Benbow you are looking from the riser along the back of the bow to the tip, the half moon arch represents the string groove in the overlay.

Yes the right side is the strong side. The string will always drift towards the weak side. So you want to remove wood from the right side. Or deepen the string groove on the left side.

Is this a selfbow?

If yes, is it a natural twist? It's so small I wouldn't worry about it.

Did you cause it by uneven wood removal? Then yes, take wood from right side, take around 2o short draws and check it. Continue as needed.

No this is a glass bow when unstrung everything is great but when I string it at brace I can see it.... It is a slight amount but enough to really be bugging me thanks guys

Is the bow under construction or a preexisting bow? Jawge

Good job. I'm glad it worked out.

Limb tip points to the weak side.
