What bulbs are you guys using for your bow ovens? I thought about the red heat bulbs but not sure, wanted to get some suggestions.
Thanks,
Dannon
I use four 200W incandescents along with a thermostat to prevent overheating.
Can we even buy these high wattage incandescents any more?
I wouldn't use those red heat lamps because they concentrate the heat into a small area that could cause scorching or overheating that one area.
My hot box has 4 ceramic light sockets. I started out with 4, 200w incandescent bulbs but reduced it to 4, 100w bulbs. I also have a thermostat that shuts it off at 168deg. For lower temps for drying wood I will unscrew a bulb or two to regulate the heat.
I can get by with four 100 watt bulbs in the summer..but sometimes in the winter I have to use two 200s and two 100s.. All are incandescent. I bought more than a dozen 4 years ago. I think you can still find the old school bulbs, but it may take a little online searching.. I use a snap disc 180 degree thermostat. I will go to another heat system when I run out of bulbs.
I use 2-200 watt.
Thanks for the input guys! Trying to get my oven finished and get me a bow put in there!

No bulbs here just a hacked space heater!
Rough duty bulbs are not illegal to make.
I use 150w rough duty and a heat controller.
I actually use 8 x 100 watt incandescent.
Once I used my car on a very hot day. It ran about 140.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably order some from the 1000bulbs website.
Thanks again guys,
Dannon
By the way the title was supposed to read "bow oven bulbs"! I guess everyone figured that out? Lol!
my oven has 8 stations and I use 100 bulbs. 4-100's is sufficient in warm weather and my shop isn't heated, so not much activity in the winter.
I don't trust my electrical skills so the oven is only used in the back yard at least 15 feet from the house! :)
Dannon, Do you have a snapdisc or controller?
Does it matter if the bulbs are frosted or should they be the clear ones?
Thanks
I dont know..its the heat from the bulb we need. I have used the clear glass and the cool white ones..both put out enough heat to get the oven over 160 degrees.
Thanks guys, ordered some bulbs last night from 1000bulbs.com
