Please DO NOT FLOOD MY BOX WITH PM"S.
Please read all the rules.
I will PM you with your info on your builder. You can discuss anything in this thread and ask any questions here in the open forum (just don't let the person know you are building for them). If you have any special concerns then send me a PM or email.
Shot me a PM with your mailing address and phone number so your bowyer knows where to send it.
sign ups will be closed at midnight January the 24th, 2016
READ ALL RULES!!!!!!!!!
Contact phone # is required! You can just send it to me privately and it will be added to the spread sheet and kept private.
Anyone that was asked not to ship on account of their recipient being late will not be on the list of shippers to hold
If you shipped late or are a new sign up your builder will be holding your bow until you ship and provide either me a tracking # and we OK your builder to ship. This is the only way we can keep someone from receiving and not sending.
We have had a few out of country entries in the past. I don't have an issue shipping out of country but if any of you do; send me a PM and I will take care of it. I shipped a bow to Turkey and Stiks has shipped overseas for around 45-50$ and figure it should be roughly the same for anywhere else. If you have an issue with it just send me a PM. It does cost a small fortune to ship to Africa, You can ship a TD to Africa for around 50 or 60 bucks.
DEADLINE
For new and late shippers will be Thursday, June 30th or before.
Our vets who shipped on time last year will be Sunday, July 31st
READ ALL RULES BEFORE SIGNING UP
#1 There will be a 30 day grace period after the final to be shipped date. Any bows not shipped by then and I will ask you to forward the bow you receive to your recipient. The only exceptions will be made by Myself and if you go past the grace I will ask your recipient if they will give you more time if they grant it then great if not you will forward your received bow or I will have your bowyer ship it to them if appropriate.
The only way we will make any exceptions to this rule is if you contact us and let us know what is going on. We do understand things happen and We are willing to work with anyone should an emergency arise, But YOU HAVE TO KEEP COMMUNICATION OPEN AND STAY IN TOUCH WITH us. No exceptions!
Okay here we go.
The way we'll do this to insure everybody gets a bow they can shoot is draw names. If you want in post here and at the end of sign up I will draw names and PM or email to the builder who your bow is going to and the specs desired.
#1 When you post that you are in also post your draw length and desired draw weight within a 5 or 10 pound range and right or left-handed. (example.. 45-50 or 40-50) Also state whether you will be building a glass or wood bow, one piece or TD for the trade. I need to know this for shipping purposes out of country.
#2 When you post pics during the build DO NOT state in any fashion whom your bow is going to.
#3 I have given this a lot of thought and to keep it as honest as possible no one who has signed up to TradGang after the date of this post can enter. I hate to exclude anyone but have heard of it here in past trades that one guy or another did not get a return on his trade and I DO NOT want that to happen.
#4 The time frame for the build will be about 6 months and the bow you built should if any way possible be shot in. Bows need to finished and shipped by the date you are asked to ship them by
#5 There was a few concerns about liability so I will throw in that anyone who receives a bow in this trade is doing so at his/her own risk and in no way holds any one responsible in any way should a misfortune occur due to use of such bow.
#6 if you are building a glass bow and only want a glass bow in return or vice versa for wood bowyers please state this in the sign up, otherwise you may receive a glass or wood bow.
#7 Remember this swap is for novice and pros alike. If you get a bow you think it is a sub quality bow please give polite but constructive criticisms to the builder. That is part of the swap. Folks can't get better if they don't know it is wrong.
There we have it. I tried to keep it as simple as possible and keep everybody happy. So let the building and swapping commence.
Have fun! Kelly
OK, I'll go first. :)
I'll build a one piece bamboo backed tri lam longbow (or a recurve if it works out).
I'll be pleased with any type of bow.
Right hand, 50 to 60 pounds at 28 inches.
Thanks Kelly!!
P.S. I'll PM you with my address if you need it.
Dave.
Im in for this year again.
Ill build a glass bow.
My draw is 28
45-50#
Right handed.
I would prefer a glass bow.
Thanks.
I've been looking forward to doing this again..
I'll build a one piece Hybrid R/D Longbow.
I'll be happy with any style of bow in return.
Right Hand
Draw Length 29"
40-50 lbs
I'm in for my first time!
I'll make a selfbow.
I'm happy with any type of bow.
50-60lbs @ 28", right hand.
I'll pm you with my info Kelly.
I'm in... I'll build a one piece glass longbow.
I would prefer a glass bow,
Right hand
40 - 50lbs @ 29"
Really enjoyed being apart of this last year!
I'm in. I haven't missed a year yet, it seems foolish to start now. I don't know what the heck I'll build though. Seems like I should use my recipient to try something different. Haven't made a trilam for awhile, and I kind of have a selfbow urge at the moment. But also want to experiment with a 2pc takedown, an R/D design based on one of Cory's bows, or maybe try a full up recurve.
Looking for something between 45-55@29, RH. Pretty flexible on what I receive as long as it's awesome. Heck, I'm not even that fixed on weight. You can probably make it 40-60 if that helps, just remember the awesome part!
Kelly,
I am in. Righthand, 54-64 @ 29". Any type is bow is fine. I will build either a glass or selfbow, one, two, or three piece, depending on what is needed and ship anywhere.
Kelly,
I'm in for the 1st time. I'll be making a 2 piece hybrid glass longbow. Posting from South Africa.
I don't mind what I get, as long as its a take down longbow for postage reasons. Anything Osage would be great, as we don't get the best bow wood in the world here.I would like it to be between 55-60 @ 28" right handed.
Thanks for this....
I'm in. :)
I can make whatever anybody wants. Glass or wood. I'll be making some form of takedown for postage reasons as i'm in England.
My specs would be for a 40 - 50lb @ 27 inch bow. Left handed. Glass bow would be preferred.
All I would say is for whoever makes my bow please don't state a value on it as our customs charge a fortune for anything that isn't a gift with zero value......I had to pay about £60/$90 import tax last time which kind of sours the deal a bit!
i am in too...
i will be building glass bow 2-3 pieces take down around 40-50 lbs.
i can get in return any bow (glass/wood)with passion. (just i do not like wobbly/snaky bows).
RH 40-50lbs @ 28"
please note that international shipping can be costly if it is one piece so take down bow would be more suitable to ship the bow here.
mikkekeswick situation of paying custom tax is applied here too. i had to pay 150$ for last swap. if you have to put a price please make it less then 50$.
That may be a price you have to pay for living within the EU. As far as you requesting your sender to not declare a value you are asking them to take full responsibility for that package getting to you with no insurance. We all know that misshaps happen all the time when sending bows and if the bow was lost or broken most tradgangers would take it upon themselves to make it right. The shipping to England is also not cheep ($60-80) and the insurance helps prevent from having to eat that cost over and over. Hopes this helps with why you will more than likely get a value declared on the package.
Rmorris - i've sent probably close to a 100 bows all over the World and when they get broken (as happens) the insurance isn't really worth having anyway.....these delivery companies are slipperier than a fresh eel ! I've found this to be the case with virtually every delivery company. What I meant was don't give it a value as if you were selling it. Cover your materials by all means.
It costs more like 100+$ to post a bow to America from here....
Ok I have 11 in so far.
If you were in last year I have your info unless it changed.
PZee I need you to PM me your Address so we know where to send a bow.
Mike I will make a note for your shipper. Do you know the % they charge so if a person puts $500 on it is that to much.
We put gift on Inks so he does not get charged.
So I think if you put gift on it but get insurance on it Mike is safe.
First time on the swap. I'm in!
I'll be building a glassed backed r/d on my own form design.
I would be happy with any bow
Right hand 40-50lbs @28 (umm...no takedown though please) oh and epic so when I'm at the range those compound bow monkies with the wrenches are drooling in envy! :D
I'll get in again. I will build a glass one piece mild d/r longbow. I would like a glass bow in return. Right hand for 30" draw length. Flexible with weight...anything 55-75 will work.
Dave
Ok up to 12 folks now.
Dang Inksoup! I'm sorry to hear that! My wife shipped your bow for me last year and thought she was doing a good thing by putting a high value on it. I'll be more than happy to refund the money you are out on last years bow. I feel terrible about it! Wish I had known sooner.
Oh, I almost forgot! I'm in!! I'll build a glass bow either 2 or 3 piece. And I think id like something wood in return. Right hand and 45-55# at 28". I don't have a good self bow because the only one I have left is one I made! :biglaugh:
What? Ya want some wood? LOL
Yes, I'll take some of that osage you keep turning into lumber.
But more importantly, you should enter the swap and let people cringe at the thought of getting one of your tri-lams again. You can always donate the one you get to charity if you're worried about having too many bows yourself.
Yes sir! I'll take all the bow wood I can get!! Or wood bows, or whatever you wanna call them sticks with strings you make! Lol
Seriously tho, how am I ever gonna get one of your bows ifn ya don't sign up? Come on old timer, I know u got a few left in ya!!
crittergetter it is no problem mate...
actually i was very very very luck that the guy in custom miss-read the value on the sticker.
the value was on the sticker $2500.00 and custom guy read it as $250 and charged me on this. if he had realized 2500 there was no way for me to get this bow...
but again... no worries... and no need to refund... your offer for refund is enough for me :) besides i got pretty bow and very nice friends here... those are all plus...
btw... i can build a wood bow too... maybe for you critter :D who knows?
best.
Ok I added Critter waiting on ole Roy to bless us with on of his bows. Being the lucky recipient of one of his bow my first year I know how wonderful they are and mine is a BBO not a tri lam. I get more compliments on that bow then any other so far. Most I show ask can you make me one of those I laugh and say not no but hell no. Above my skill I admit it.
I am seriously thinking about getting in this year but I'm waiting to see how well I hold up to this new cancer drug they put me on. Don't want to start and then not be able to finish. I have till the end of the month to say yay or nay correct?
This will be my first time. Im in this year.
I would like to make a glass bow but I should stick to what I know I can make successfully and on time.
I'll make an osage self bow deflex recurve.
I would prefer to ship within the states to avoid the complicated shipping situation.
I would be happy with any bow, but would be very happy with a right handed glass bow in the 50-60 pound range at 27 inches of any style.
Ben, deadline is the 24th. Go ahead and do it. If you have problems, there will be plenty of support and assistance available right here.
I added ewok to the list Ben Monterey is correct the 24th at midnight I will close the sign up down.
KellyG - the import duty is 20%. The point I was trying (!) to make was don't put a custom bow value on it....I don't mind paying the taxes it's just that if you put a custom bow value to it then the cost is prohibitive to me being in this swap. When I send my bow the value I put on it wouldn't be what I would sell it for if it was for a customer - it will be the value of the materials. I think that is fair enough :)
This bow swap is not cheap for anyone figuring time and money. If you are in this figuring on getting a quality bow for little cost you should be elsewhere.
I am going to join again this year. I will either be making a one piece hybrid longbow or a 1 piece recurve design I am working on.
Any type of bow is fine with me in return. I like the 45-55 at 28" draw range bows and right handed.
Ok got you Horn Chaser
I'm in this year, will be making a self bow of some kind, probably osage or hackberry. Any type of bow is fine, 50-60 at 27" right handed.
Kelly do you need my address & phone number since I wasn't in last year?
I'm in again this year Kelly.
I will be making a glass bow, either one or three piece takedown.
I'm like Canopy boy -- I'll take whatever as long as it's awesome! Weight can be anywhere from 40-60#@28". I shoot three under, and if it really matters, I prefer low or medium wrist grip, but I can shoot anything.
I know everyone does thier best on these swaps, and that's all I ask. Let's make this swap the best yet! What will the bows look like if we all try to out-do each other?
This will be my first time to get in, i will be building a one piece hybrid glass bow. It doesn't matter what kind i get i would like it in the 45 - 55# range at 26" right handed
I will have to bail out on this after being in last 3 years due to health issues and a commitment to donate a bow to our local club. Sorry, hope it is a success and all get their bows in good time.
Ok I'll have another go and represent Australia for you Bob.
I will build a 2 pc take down glass longbow this year. I would love one of those sexy self bows I've seen on here but being over the pond I will also take any take down bow if you want to save postage. I draw 29" right handed and I like them heavier so any thing between 60# and 80# is fine. I wouldn't even say no to a war bow if someone wanted to give it a go, 100# or so :bigsmyl:
Danny
Dang Danny, if I get you you're going to have to shoot in your own bow!
i can feel a hernia coming on!!! Good luck with that Dan!
yeah I would have to get back into training again for something like that. But I do like a heavier bow, I've always shot them better I'm not sure why really, but between 70 and 80 pound seems to be the sweet spot for me when I'm shooting 3D comps and hunting I don't feel the weight at all.
Danny
I am in this year. I will build a natural material bow, take down. I will take anything between 45 and 55 at 28 right hand.
KellyG...
I am finally getting caught up on my todo list..
Check your message box..
I have your blade done..
Ok I got caught up I don't have access to the spreadsheet on the weekends so Monday I add the new folks.
Dan Landis Welcome back and I have your stuff unless you moved since 2012.
Kevin I will check it out.
Next Monday I will post all the folks I have in and all their draw info. Plus the dates they have to ship by.
Swap seems a bit more intimate this year...
So far but It is ok. Should be a quick one then. LOL
Let's bring this one back up! Roy hasn't signed up yet, lol.
I'm still trying to figure out if I'll have time make a bow this year or not.
Just say yes, knock it out quickly, and get on with your other activities...
My heart says yes, but my wife says no. Honey do list is too long as is. Closing on a new place in 1 week. As much as it kills me, she's right (not going to admit it to her). I have to sit this one out.
Good luck to all, I will be back in next year.
I'll sign up if Roy does.... :wavey:
Kelly I will have to pass this year. Broke my foot yesterday on top of everything else. I'll watch and enjoy from the sidelines.
Kelly, everything should be the same, been here for over 30 years now. Phone may have changed, I'll PM you with the correct number.
Hopefully I will be more confident in my bowyer abilities come 2017 swap time. This seems like fun.
So bummed... I just joined yesterday so I cant get in on this but I will be counting the days until next year. This might be the coolest thing I've ever heard of!!!! Awesome!
Wish I could this year but I still don't have the shop moved out to the new house.
Well I've been in every year so can't see why I shouldn't join again. Have a lot going on in the next 6 months but will get a bow made. Made a lot of improvements in my bowyering last year and want to keep working on it.
I am right handed and draw 29". after that I will take anything someone can make as long as there is heart and soul in it.
I will be making a wood bow of some sort and can do a 2 piece if needed for shipping. May do one anyway.
Sorry there aren't as many signing up this year as in past years but should still be fun.
I have a lot of projects and r&d work that I'm working on, so I hate to commit to a build with those constraints.
But, if at the end of the sign up, there is an odd number of participants, I'll jump in to make it even! I'll check back in the morning, and hopefully Kelly will have the final tally. So count me out unless I'm needed.
Paul, I think today is the deadline!
I'm in. RH 45-55# @ 28", typically shoot 50#. Low wrist grips or straight grips preferred.
I will build a wood bow and decide on design after I find out who the next victim is :smileystooges:
And there we have it, it's the 25th. We should be finding out our victims before too long I imagine.
OK I extended a few hours we are closed I will post up all I am tracking in with their specs.

And 24 are in.
Looks good on my info.
Ok now the nerves have set in.
I was wanting 45-55 not 55-55! Lol
Thank you Kelly for all your hard work!
Looks good, thanks Kelly!
Are there two, Dan Landis?

Must be, they apparently want different weight bows. :)
Kelly, I'm not in but if it gets down to someone failing to come through, keep me in mind for help in getting a bow out.
Well you know how Kelly types.. :)
I think I'm ready to go. I counted at least 17 kinds of wood for bow building in the shop. :archer:
Dave.
Can't wait to figure out who I'm building for I have an osage log yelling at me from the corner of my shop.
Roy, only 1 here in Abbottstown.
My Info was:
Any Bow Type
Right Hand
Draw Length 29"
40-50 lbs
Same here, any bow type is fine with me, wood or glass.
Soooo... When do we get assigned.lol I want to start! :D
Kelly,
Mine should be 54-64#'s....+/- 5#'s is fine.
Kelly,
Please make sure my builder makes a take down for ease of postage.
Thanks a Million to my builder in advance!!!!
And thanks a million Kelly for organising this!!!
hmm...
thx for your effort on this kelly... it is really admirable job you are doing...
i want to pass a note to my bow maker... i ahve enough normal bow...
please go deep in fantasy as much as you can... you can build anything that comes from your imagination... including poundage i do not mind if it is 100 pounds... i do not mind if it is wood bow, glass bow, weird bow, cross bow, short or long bow... any style...
as long as you are happy with it, i am happy with it... but keep in mind about shipping cost to turkey.
well kelly i think it is your responsibility to pass this to my bowyer :D
I WISH A GOOOOOODDD LUCK TO ALL OF US
best...
Ok errors fixed I will pick names tonight and try and get info pushed out this weekend.
And no only one Dan Landis. I had is old info then he PMed me his new and I am this guy :knothead:
Man this looks like fun. As always I am a few days late. Living off grid with spotty Internet has not allowed me to get on in a while. Maybe next year.
Off grid is both a blessing and a curse I suppose..what part of the state you in Dave?
Tell me about it.
