Title: ash staves... worth my time for selfbow?
Post by: goobersan on September 17, 2015, 04:36:00 PM
I have a couple sources for ash trees. Just curious if the dead wood inside would work for selfbows or arrows. Far as I know the little bugs only inhabit the outer layers of the tree.
Thanks for the help

I would not mess with wood that has been cut for a while.  Even if the bugs didn't get to it, the rot probably did.

It's still standing. I guess I'll find out in the next few weeks about any root. Thanks John

If it is dead standing ash chances are it is no good for bows. If the trees are still alive and are well leafed out then I'd say give it a try.

Grab some hop hornbeam, it should be all over around you.
