Hello Fellas:)
For a 55lb Kodiak Magnum off the shelf, fingers, 175gr point, and 32" shaft, which spine would you choose for a Gold Tip Traditional Carbon Arrow??
I seem to be good for a 300 shaft but a 340 would seem to work as well. I have the same bow in 45lbs (175gr too) and I wouldnt mind being able to use the same arrows for both bows but I am really focusing on whats best for the 55lb bow.
So I seek the wisdom and experience of TradGang for advice....whatdaya say?
You can shoot most any spine off of any bow but if you want the to shoot well, you can't use one spine to cover a 10 lbs weight discrepancy.
You haven't mentioned your draw length so everything else would be a guess, but if you are 28", than I would suggest either a 500 (likely too weak at 32") but if you were able to cut them down it would be the correct spine.
Uncut, I would go with the 400's.
175g is a little light (not terrible) for front weight on a 55lb bow.
If you need the 32" arrows for draw length, than all this is mute.
By the way, we have a ton of Gold Tip shafts on hand at super prices. We also custom fletch.
good luck, BigJim
Big Jim,
Thanks! My draw is 29.5 and 32" gives me an inch past my hand.
Shouldn't I use 300's for the 55lb bow?
According to the chart 300's are for 48-53lbs
Charts get you somewhere near...experience and paper tuning get you spot on!
The 'correct' spine for a given bow is an equation with quite a few variables to it. Go with what Jim recommends for you.
I also would use a GT 5557 (400)
600 - 1535 (30")
500 - 3555 (30")
400 - 5575 (32")
300 - 7595 (32")
take care
Andy
Well, at 29.5" draw you should have about 59 lbs up front.i would look at 340 s full length with 100 g brass insert and then your 175 g point...about 635g. Bears have a tendency to run heavy too. The he 400 will probably work fine too with same set up but maybe cut to 30.5-31". With this you can always move sight window out if it is a little weak.
Good luck, bigjim
