Is there anything other than personal preference to incline one to use either an endless loop or a flemish twist string on a selfbow?
I found a thread about the appropriate string material but I haven't seen any discussion of any particular string style being better than the other.
Thanks.
I use all Flemish twist on mine, and love them. Never tried an endless loop string.
Same here. Only difference is I use Dacron B-50 and Pearlie uses that other stuff. :D
I wasn't even going to bring it up!
Pearly next time it comes up, ya better take a picture of it. Won't be long now at your age. LMFAO..
Either type of string will suffice. Just some of us older guys prefer the Flemish twist strings for more traditional bows. It's your call on this one.
Endless strings are slightly faster and a bit noisier.....your call. I don't know what you read about materials but you can use ANY string material on a selfbow. I regularly use 6 strand fastflight endless strings but I wouldn't if I was hunting :)

All I have to do is look at that pond picture you sent me yesterday ;)
Thank you, Gentlemen. I prefer Flemish strings because they look better to me and they're far less of a pain in the ass to make and adjust if necessary.
Play nice, Roy, or momma won't let you come out no more! :nono:
I started out making endless loop strings. Once I learned how to make a flemish twist string that's the only kind I've made. They look better and are easier to make in my opinion.
Same as Scrub. I started making endless strings and went to the Flemish once I learned to do the Flemish twist.
Jawge
I use b-50 on my old Bear Bows and use the same stuff Pearlie boy uses on my self bows.
I prefer Flemish strings. The jig to make them is a whole lot simpler, and once you get the hang of it they only take maybe 15min to make. I've made a few endless loop and the only difference I can tell is the pain in the rear they are to make.
If you haven't tried, a 3 ply Flemish string looks really slick and takes just a bit more time.
Flemish strings are very adjustable as for length, endless loop are not. I will stick with Flemish.
